Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari solusi pengolahan limbah padat yang dihasilkan dari produksi kerupuk rambak di Desa Brontokan, Kelurahan Danurejo, Kecamatan Mertoyudan, Magelang. Penelitian yang dilakukan selama hampir tiga bulan  mulai dari Februari hingga April 2019 ini juga dilakukan untuk memenuhi tugas mata kuliah Praktikum Ilmu Lingkungan. Penelitian ini dilangsungkan di salah satu rumah produksi milik Pak Naim dan menyelidiki baik limbah cair maupun limbah padat, tetapi lebih terkonsentrasi pada limbah padat yang dihasilkan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa suhu di dalam pabrik mencapai 310C dengan intensitas cahaya 949 x 100 lux pada saat penjemuran kerupuk rambak. Flora yang berada di dalam lingkungan pabrik antara lain lumut, gulma, pohon pepaya, tanaman cabai, dan tanaman pandan, sedangkan fauna yang berada di dalam lingkungan pabrik antara lain capung, ayam, lalat, laba-laba, dan hewan air yang tidak teridentifikasi. Sementara itu, suhu di luar lingkungan pabrik sekitar 290C dengan intensitas cahaya 0.32 x 100 lux dan ditemukan banyak tanaman seperti pohon jambu, pisang, mangga, rambutan, dan hewan seperti ayam, laba-laba, lalat, dan lain-lain. Pemanfaatan limbah padat dari pabrik adalah sebagai pelet untuk pakan ikan lele karena masih mengandung nutrisi yang bila dicampur dengan beberapa bahan lain akan menjadi pakan yang memadai untuk tumbuh kembang ikan lele. Diharapkan penelitian ini mampu memberikan informasi pada masyarakat yang ini mencari alternatif pakan ikan lele sekaligus mengurangi limbah padat dari produksi kerupuk rambak itu sendiri.

Abstract

Cobras are venomous snakes from Elapidae Family widespread in Asia and Africa, including Indonesia. There are two species of cobras in Indonesia, the one being is Javan spitting cobra (Naja sputatrix Boie, 1827) and other is Sumatran spitting cobra (Naja sumatrana Müller, 1890). In Indonesia, N. sputatrix distributions are in Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara, meanwhile N. sumatrana spread across Sumatra and Kalimantan. Wide distribution means that there are also potentially wide variations in morphology, meristic, and morphometric characters. This research was conducted to determine variations of Javan and Sumatran spitting cobra with morphology, meristic, and morphometric characterization. Total number of 16 samples (N. sputatrix = 8, N. sumatrana = 8) were examined and measured. Visual observation focused on coloration and hood characteristics. Meristic observation uses head, dorsal, ventral, and subcaudal scalation. Morphometric observation measures SVL, TL, Tail, and HW. We found that hood morphology varies greatly between N. sputatrix and N. sumatrana. N. sumatrana differs between Sumatran and Borneo population. Morphometric variation is being less prominent with morphometric description that matches with previous literatures and researches.

Abstract

Paracetamol overdose is a well-documented cause of hepatic injury across vertebrate species, including teleost fish. This study aimed to evaluate the hepatoprotective potential of fucoidan, a sulfated polysaccharide derived from brown algae, against paracetamol-induced liver damage in Rasbora lateristriata. Fish were divided into five experimental groups and exposed to paracetamol (3 mg/L), either alone or in combination with fucoidan at concentrations of 50, 100, or 300 µg/mL, for seven days. Histopathological evaluation of liver tissues was performed using hematoxylin–eosin staining, with semi-quantitative scoring focused on hydropic degeneration, nuclear pyknosis, and necrosis. The results demonstrated that paracetamol exposure induced moderate hepatocellular injury, characterized by cytoplasmic vacuolization, apoptotic nuclear alterations, and necrotic lesions. Co-treatment with fucoidan at 300 µg/mL was associated with reduced severity across all histopathological parameters, indicating partial hepatoprotective effects. In contrast, the 50 µg/mL fucoidan group exhibited paradoxically severe hydropic degeneration despite the absence of pyknosis and necrosis, suggesting a delayed or altered injury profile. Intermediate outcomes were observed at 100 µg/mL. Overall, fucoidan exhibited dose-dependent but inconsistent hepatoprotective effects. The observed histological variability across concentrations suggests that protection may be influenced by factors such as bioavailability, cellular uptake, or interactions with intracellular stress pathways. These findings highlight the need for further mechanistic investigations before fucoidan can be considered a reliable hepatoprotective agent in aquatic toxicology.
