Abstract

This study evaluates the influences of organizational commitment components on job satisfaction and job performance among Islamic boarding school (IBS) teachers. It also aimed to decide the mediating effect of job satisfaction on the relationship between organizational commitment and job performance. This comparative study compares the path coefficient between exogenous and endogenous constructs based on respondents’ countries, Malaysia and Indonesia. Through a simple random sampling, the data were gathered from 247 respondents. The analysis was conducted through partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approaches (measurement model, structural model, and multi-group analysis). The measurement model informed that the obtained data was valid and reliable. The structural model examination reports that normative and continuance commitment strongly predict job satisfaction. Similarly, continuance commitment and job satisfaction are significant predictors of job performance. As a mediator, job satisfaction successfully mediates the relationships between continuance commitment and job performance and between normative commitment and job performance. No significant differences emerge from the multi-group analysis results between IBS teachers from Kedah (Malaysia) and Jambi (Indonesia), regarding all direct paths between the constructs. This article provides knowledge contributions from Indonesia and Malaysia, in the context of Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to test the validity and reliability of instruments measuring the variable of innovation capacity in the management system of Islamic boarding school education institutions in Jambi City. This research method employed a cross-sectional survey design with a quantitative approach. The sample size for this study consisted of 162 teachers (Ustad/Ustadzah) in Islamic boarding school education institutions. Quantitative data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) using SPSS 23 and AMOS 18. The results of this study indicated that EFA identified five factor structures to construct the dimensions of Innovation Capacity (IC), namely Opportunity Exploration (OE), Idea Sustainability (IS), Idea Introduction (II), Idea Emergence (IE), and Idea Realization (IR). Meanwhile, these findings were verified and confirmed by CFA regarding the factorial validity analysis of the Innovation Capacity dimension from the EFA testing results. This study suggests that future innovation capacity instruments require further adjustment to enhance the level of reliability and the ability to explain differences related to the measured constructs within different contexts, cultures, and conditions.

Abstract

Previous studies have shown that augmented reality (AR) is an interactive teaching aids that can improve students’ learning motivation. Many studies have discussed AR technology but there are scarce studies on developing AR framework and guideline for teachers. Therefore, the objective of this research is to study the need to develop an AR framework to enhance motivation among students based on Gagne’s nine events of instruction and self-determination theory (SDT). This research employs the design and development research (DDR) method with a blend of quantitative and qualitative in which data was collected via a closed and open questionnaire. The respondents of this research are 35 teachers who are teaching technology course in Kedah, chosen through purposive sampling. The findings revealed the need to develop an AR framework by taking into consideration five main constructs, namely motivation, technology skills, instructional design, AR development tools and types of AR applications. Hence, AR developed using this framework has the potential to enhance student motivation and create effective AR learning experiences for students.

Abstract

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a hitch in Qur’an education, signalling a need to shift to online learning. When the Islamic learning centres ceased to operate due to the lockdown, adult asnaf-mualaf (reverts who are eligible to receive zakat or other forms of Islamic aids) were held back from physically attending Al-Qur’an lessons. The measure has disrupted their ongoing learning of the Qur’an, and prolonged disruption is feared to cause disengagement among the asnaf. Hence, this study arranged five meetings over three weeks for online Qur’an lessons, each lasting an hour, for eight asnaf-mualaf. A qualitative exploration of the online lessons was conducted to determine suitable mechanisms, issues, and challenges faced by the asnaf in online Qur’an learning. Interview protocol refinement (IPR) was employed to ensure the method was executed ethically, and the data were coded and analysed thematically using ATLAS.ti. The findings revealed a preference for WhatsApp, while low internet quality and accessibility were the expected apparent challenges during the restriction. The study underscores the importance of catering to the participants’ needs and addressing their lack, indicating a shift towards an andragogical approach of learner-centredness. Several actionable recommendations are forwarded to enhance the online Qur’an instructions for asnaf-mualaf.
