Abstract

This paper seeks to analye the ideological battle between Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) through Gerakan Mahasiswa Pembebasan (Gema Pembebasan; the Liberation Student Movement) and intra-campus (DEMA; Student Executive Council) and extra-campus student associations at State Islamic Higher Education (PTKIN). The main article’s objectives are what issues often propagated by HTI activists are; and what the reactions and resistances of opposite student activists towards HTI’s ideology are. The research method used is qualitative, with a multi-case design. Data collection was carried out directly by observing and in-depth interviewing informants from various elements of the student movement; HTI activists, student presidents of DEMA and other administrators, as well as student activists either through direct or phone interviews. The results of the study showed that Gema Pembebasan activists as the underbow of HTI had militancy and high discipline to promote ideology and struggled to uphold the caliphate. HTI activists campaigned the Khilafah Islamiyah ideology and concept through various media and intellectual activities. In propaganda scheme, HTI activists always make tag line campaigns such as “Democracy is Haram”, “Khilafah Islamiyah is the solution”, and “Stop the Secular System”. This article also concluded that the provocative actions of Gema Pembebasan activists have generated a number of resistance from the opposite activists. The intra-and extra-campus organizations activists attempt to fight HTI’s ideological propaganda through various strategies, such as intellectualism and intimidation. However, the resistance power was no longer found since HTI was dissolved by the Government.

Abstract

This study explores how strategic leadership can drive institutional transformation towards excellence in Islamic higher education. A qualitative research approach with an ethnographic orientation was adopted, conducted at UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, Indonesia, over the course of one year, particularly during the university’s national accreditation preparation. Data were collected through three primary methods: participant observation in leadership meetings and quality assurance activities, in-depth interviews with 14 key informants (including university leaders, lecturers, and accreditation staff), and document analysis of institutional strategic plans and accreditation reports. Data analysis employed an inductive thematic procedure, in which interview transcripts, field notes, and institutional documents were analysed to identify emerging themes. The findings reveal that strategic leadership was realised through three key pillars: clear visionary direction, participatory management, and the integration of Islamic humanistic values into institutional governance. Despite facing challenges such as structural fragmentation, limited financial resources, and cultural resistance to change, leadership succeeded in mobilising collective commitment and aligning organisational efforts with accreditation goals. As a result, the university achieved the highest national accreditation rating (A). This study contributes theoretically by contextualising strategic leadership within faith-based educational settings in the Global South and highlighting the importance of moral authority, inclusive communication, and organisational synergy. Practically, the findings offer valuable insights for Islamic university leaders seeking to foster excellence under constrained conditions.

Abstract

A challenge with self-borrowing services is the investment cost for both software and hardware. A software license is required to connect INLIS [Integrated Library System] Lite with Radio Frequency Identification [RFID], which results in a high cost, especially when the software is only compatible with specific RFID devices. This study aims to look at the INLISLite Library Information System, focusing on implementing a self-borrowing service using microcontrollers and RFID technology. In this research, system development uses the prototyping method. This study developed a self-borrowing module for INLISLite without the need for licensed connector software. Additionally, the module is compatible with various microcontrollers and RFID devices that are readily available. The research proposes a novel model that utilizes RFID technology and NodeMCU ESP8266 for the INLISLite Library Information System. RFID sensors read book data from tags, while the NodeMCU microcontroller facilitates communication between the RFID system and the server, allowing automatic transmission of book data to the INLISLite database. This setup enables seamless self-service borrowing, which was tested successfully, supporting processes such as logging in, scanning book data, and updating loan status in the database.

Abstract

Integrating global issues into teacher education curricula is essential for preparing future educators with global competence—the ability to understand global challenges, respect diverse perspectives, and act toward sustainable development. This study investigates the strategic integration of global issues into the development of the Kurikulum Merdeka at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Bandung. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with faculty members, program heads, and curriculum developers, supported by document analysis and participatory observation. The findings show that UPI has taken progressive steps in integrating global themes—such as sustainability, social justice, global literacy, and digital citizenship—into courses, student projects, and academic collaborations. Initiatives like Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) and SDG-based community service programs highlight UPI’s commitment to global education. However, implementation remains uneven across departments, with challenges such as limited faculty training, insufficient digital infrastructure, and a lack of shared understanding regarding the importance of global competencies. The study concludes that a systemic and institutionalized approach is required to embed global literacy as a core element of teacher education. Strengthening faculty capacity, curriculum flexibility, and international collaboration will be key to ensuring that future teachers are not only locally grounded but also globally responsive.
