Abstract

According to Zor (2006), maxim violation that people tend to violate the maxims during the exchange of conversation quietly and unostentatiously when they fail to observe the maxim intentionally (as cited in Al-Qaderi , 2015,pp,80-81). Grice (1989 :28) said that when the speaker does not fulfill or obey the maxims, the speaker is said the violate the maxims. This study concerns with the type of maxim violation that appeared in movie of Death Race Inferno 3. The study aims to analyze the types of maxim violation that found in the movie. The data were taken from the movie of Death Race Inferno 3 that has been downloaded from FlashNet.com and they are collected through observation and note taking technique. The theory of Grice (1975) is used to analyse the maxim violation type. The result shows that there are some maxim violations appear in the movie and are uttered by the characters in the movie. The study concludes that in the movie there are found 15 of maxim violations, 3 violation maxim of quantity, 3 violation maxim of quality, 6 violation maxim of relevance and 3 violations maxim of manner.

Abstract

This study analyzed one of the illocutionary speech acts namely directives act. Directive illocutionary acts are used by the speaker to get the hearer to do an action. This study discusses the types of directive illocutionary acts as well as the function of directive illocutionary acts. The researchers applied two theories in analyzing the study. The first theory was proposed by Kreidler (1998) used to analyze the types of directives illocutionary acts. The second theory was proposed by Leech (1983) used to analyze the function of directive illocutionary acts. The researchers used the documentation method to collect the data. This data was analyzed with qualitative method. Qualitative methods were used to analyze the data descriptively. In presenting the data, the researcher used formal and informal methods. In this study, there are 64 data of directive illocutionary acts classified into 41 data or 64,1% of commands, 14 data or 21,8% of requests, and the last data is 9 or 14,1% of suggests. There are four types of functions found in command types, namely competitive, convivial, collaborative, and conflictive. Meanwhile, in requests and suggest types, there are only two functions found namely competitive and convivial.

Abstract

Semua ujaran lisan yang diterapkan pada percakapan sehari-hari dianggap sebagai tindak tutur. Penelitian ini menjelaskan dan mengklasifikasikan jenis-jenis tindak tutur berdasarkan teori tindak ilokusi Searle. Penelitian ini menganalisis tindak ilokusi dalam ujaran Sam dan Bob dalam film Luck. Dalam film tersebut terdapat berbagai sumber data termasuk banyak tindak ilokusi. Penelitian ini membahas tentang jenis-jenis tindak ilokusi. Teori Searle (1979) digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi data yang mengandung jenis tindak ilokusi. Data dalam penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode observasi dalam pengumpulan data. Penelitian ini menemukan 42 data termasuk tindak ilokusi. Data yang paling dominan dalam penelitian ini adalah tindakan direktif sebanyak 20 data, disusul tindakan asertif sebanyak 9 data. Selanjutnya tindakan komisif berjumlah 8 data, dan tindakan ekspresif terakhir berjumlah 6 data.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the contextual meaning found in the lyrics of Michael Buble using the theory of Lyons (1995) and to explain the context of the situation to support the analysis of meaning in the lyrics of Michael Buble using the theory by Halliday and Hasan (1985). This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The result showed there are four contextual meanings found; these contextual meanings grouped in 2 or (50%) words, 1 or (25%) phrases, and 1 or (25%) clauses. The e contextual meaning consists of informal language and figurative language, which is analyzed based on the context of the situation, showing that the field or the topic of each song is about love between young adults, Michael Buble, and her story about love and her child. The tenor of the participant of each song has similarities using figurative language, idioms, and informal language. The mode of each song is the same in that all of them are written text but can be read if those songs are sung.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe study concerns with the slang words used in the Fate of the Furious movie. The studyaims to analyze the types of slang, the meaning of slang and the function of slang used in Fateof the Furious movie. This study used qualitative approach and the data collection was basedon observation method by downloading the movie and movie script, watching the movie,looking through the scene and taking note. The theoretical framework of the study is based onLeech’s five types of language function (1981) and the theory proposed by Chapman (2007)about two two kind of slangs: primary slang and secondary slang. The meanings of slang weretaken from some online dictionaries that related to slang. This study reveals that there are 25slangs which is found in Fate of the Furious movie. From the data, there are 22 primary slangsand 3 secondary slangs found. The meaning of slang mostly related to informational functionwhich is focused on the speaker tends to inform something to the other characters in the movie.From the analysis of the meaning, it can be concluded that the meanings of slang words vary.Keywords: slang, types, meaning, function, Fate of the Furious movie.ABSTRAKStudi ini berkaitan dengan kata gaul dan yang terjadi dalam film Fate of the Furious. Penelitianini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis bahasa gaul, makna bahasa gaul, dan fungsibahasa gaul yang digunakan dalam film Fate of the Furious. Penelitian ini menggunakanpendekatan kualitatif dan pengumpulan datanya berdasarkan metode observasi denganmengunduh film dan naskah film, menonton film, melihat-lihat adegan dan mencatat. Teoriyang digunakan dalam penelitian ini didasarkan pada Leech (1981) tentang lima jenis fungsibahasa dan juga menggunakan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Chapman (2007) tentang dua jenisbahasa gaul: bahasa gaul primer dan bahasa gaul sekunder. Makna bahasa gaul diambil daribeberapa kamus online yang terkait dengan bahasa gaul. Studi ini mengungkapkan bahwa ada25 bahasa gaul yang ditemukan dalam film Fate of the Furious. Dari data tersebut ditemukan22 bahasa gaul primer dan 3 bahasa gaul sekunder. Makna bahasa gaul yang sebagian besarterkait dengan fungsi informasional yang difokuskan pada pembicara cenderungmenginformasikan sesuatu kepada karakter lain dalam film. Dari analisis makna tersebutdapat disimpulkan bahwa makna bahasa gaul itu bermacam-macam.Kata kunci: gaul, jenis, makna, fungsi, film Fate of the Furious.
