Abstract

Abstract

Assistance in Writing Stories through the Copy the Master Technique to Strengthen the Creative Literacy of MA Raudlotul Ulum Ganjaran Students Abstract This community service activity is motivated by the low ability to write students' stories, especially in developing ideas, composing plots, building character characters, and using effective language. The activity aimed to improve the ability to write stories through the copy the master technique for 25 students in grades XI and XII of MA Raudlotul Ulum Ganjaran. The program will be carried out during January-July 2025 using a participatory-educational approach through training, workshops, writing practices, intensive mentoring, and evaluation. The average score for idea development increased from 66 to 82, plot structure from 62 to 80, characterization from 65 to 83, language use from 63 to 80, and story creativity from 65 to 86. Abstract

This study is devoted to investigating the benefits and challenges of online extensive reading (OER) in foreign or second language learning. We applied the four steps of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), such as identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. We reviewed relevant studies published between 2009 and 2025 that we identified through major academic international databases (e.g., WoS, Copernicus, and Google Scholar) and Indonesian database, Sinta (Rank 1-2). After screening, we found 25 eligible articles to be reviewed. This study unveils that, to a large extent, online extensive reading can enhance both readers’ affective and cognitive development as well as the possible challenges of OER. In the affective domain, online extensive reading can foster participants’ reading attitude, self-efficacy, and motivation, all of which are central to language learning. Meanwhile, in the cognitive area, online extensive reading significantly contributes to reading comprehension development and vocabulary mastery. However, some studies report that online extensive reading is unable to improve participants’ affective aspects, including reading attitude, self-efficacy, and motivation, as well as cognitive aspects such as reading comprehension and vocabulary mastery, which is partly because of their inability to make use of online features, online reading fatigue, and poor internet connection. This further calls for improvement in those aspects to achieve better online extensive reading promises in language learning.

Abstract

This community service program was motivated by students’ limited writing literacy, particularly in producing and publishing texts in mass media. Writing is an essential twenty-first-century literacy skill that supports critical thinking, creativity, and civic participation. MA Raudlatul Ulum 1 Ganjaran has strong potential to develop a writing culture, yet it lacks structured mentoring programs focused on publication. This program aimed to enhance students’ knowledge, skills, and motivation in writing poems, short stories, opinion articles, and news texts in accordance with journalistic standards. The methods included theoretical training, writing workshops, intensive mentoring, and evaluation using pre- and post-assessments. The results indicate an increase in writing knowledge from 2.7 to 2.95 and writing skills from 1.3 to 1.49. Poetry writing scores reached 81.42% (very good category), while short story writing reached 78.05% (good category). These findings demonstrate that writing mentoring is effective in improving students’ literacy and fostering a sustainable writing culture.
