Abstract

The community service activity, focusing on technology transfer for liquid organic fertilizer production, aims to utilize environmental potential through household organic waste. This activity was conducted at RT 08 Demang Lebar Daun, Ilir Barat I. The approach included providing educational materials and hands-on demonstrations. The implementation team shared information about various types of organic waste available in the RT 08 Demang Lebar Daun area that could be used as raw materials for liquid fertilizer production. The demonstration involved practical training on making liquid organic fertilizer from household waste, specifically pineapple and banana peels, conducted directly by the service team. The technology transfer of liquid organic fertilizer production offers several benefits, including increasing public knowledge about using organic residues as raw materials, raising awareness of environmental health, and creating economic added value. Furthermore, it allows farmers to reduce fertilizer costs and increase household income through the sale of liquid organic fertilizer.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to produce gelatin from chicken bones using different acid solvents and soaking times, and to evaluate the quality of the resulting gelatin according to SNI standards. Chicken bones were soaked in 6% HCl, 4% CH?COOH, 7% H?PO?, 0.3 M citric acid, and lime extract for 24 and 48 hours, and then extracted using a water bath at 75°C for 6 hours. The resulting gelatin was analysed for yield, moisture content, ash content, pH, protein content, organoleptic tests (colour and aroma), and FTIR spectrum. The results showed that all types of solvents could produce gelatin that met several quality parameters as specified in SNI 06-3735-1995. FTIR results for the H?PO? sample showed the presence of characteristic gelatin functional groups, namely 3184.32 cm?¹ (Amide A), 1646.58 cm?¹ (Amide I), 1456.74 cm?¹ (Amide II), 1173.34 cm?¹ (Amide III), indicating the successful conversion of collagen into gelatin. The optimal condition was obtained at In the treatment using lime extract with a soaking time of 48 hours, it produced a yield of 3.31%, moisture content of 2.49%, ash content of 1.12%, pH of 4.00, protein content of 79.94%, and the best organoleptic values with scores of 3.20 for color, 1.9 for aroma, and 1.23 for texture. This study indicates that lime can be an effective, environmentally friendly alternative solvent for gelatin production from chicken bone waste. Abstract

Abstract. Membrane is a separation technology between permeate and feed. The challenge in applying this technology is related to the ingredients that can cause fouling. Cellulose acetate membrane is a porous membrane as a solution to overcome fouling problems. The selectivity level of cellulose acetate membranes in the microfiltration process for water and wastewater treatment is very high. Utilization of kepok banana frond waste as an alternative material for making cellulose acetate membranes that are biodegradable, can be decomposed quickly by microorganisms with a limited shelf life. The aim of this research is to  apply cellulose acetate membranes from kepok banana fronds for the microfiltration process in water and wastewater treatment with varying concentrations of acetone using the phase inversion method. The cellulose content contained in the kepok banana fronds is 54.3%. The composition for making the membrane is 2 gr cellulose acetate; PVA 20 ml; and PEG 1.7 ml with various concentrations of acetone 15, 20 and 25 ml. The results of the SEM test of the membrane with a concentration of 25 ml of acetone solvent had the best characteristics with a pore size of 0.0932 μm; thickness of 1.778 mm and swelling index of 9.87%. The highest average flux value was owned by the membrane with a concentration of 20 ml, namely 71.3444 l/m².hour The lowest flux value was owned by the membrane with a concentration of 25 ml, namely 55.5549 l/m².hour.Keywords:Membrane, Microfiltration, Cellulose Acetate, Banana Frond, Acetone
