Abstract

The problems faced by the students in this listening class were identified as the difficulty of recalling memory and managing concentration during listening. Therefore, this classroom action research solution is Edpuzzle interactive video because the teacher can easily embed questions, notes, and recording voices into the video. When students play the video until it reaches a particular minute of the timeline, it will automatically pause, and a question will appear. This study revealed that this media could increase the students' listening skills. The students were more motivated to listen using Edpuzzle because they liked the "rewatch" feature and the automatic feedback. The teacher's role in presenting a clear tutorial and directing the listening process is crucial to the success of this research. Moreover, the teacher paid more attention to the content of the video and the complexity of the questions adjusted to the students' listening ability level.

Abstract

Even though stories are interesting material to learn, reading them still becomes a difficult skill because students are burdened and bored with piles of words when reading texts. Multimodal text is a solution to this issue that has been widely researched. One example of multimodal texts is the storyboard, which refers to a medium like a comic combining a sequence of storyline pictures and texts such as dialogues and narration. This teaching medium is assumed to have many advantages in improving students’ reading comprehension because students are engaged with the storyboarding activities. Meanwhile, research about how to utilize comics or storyboards in teaching reading comprehension is less well observed. This research aims to investigate the extent of the advantageous lesson ideas in the storyboard makers and the levels of reading comprehension skills that can be taught using the storyboard makers. Since the data is explored and collected from the websites, the design of this study is exploratory research. This study revealed that the two storyboard makers provide a large number of innovative lesson ideas that have been advantageous in teaching narrative reading comprehension. This research also implied that storyboarding can be applied to many levels of reading comprehension skills, including lexical, literal, inferential, applied, critical, and effective comprehension, as well as possibly beneficial for extensive reading.

Abstract

The da’wah method of KHR. Syamsul Arifin and KHR. As'ad Syamsul Arifin in instilling aqidah Ahlussunnah Wal Jama'ah An-Nahdliyah using Syair Aqaid Saeket and how to make it exist untill now are the interesting and necessary topic for this research. With qualitative method that focuses on content analysis and empirical data, the results of the study is concluded as follows: First, Syair Aqaid saeket is a beautiful verse written by two Ulama which contains fifty aqaid, the names of the Prophets, the book of Allah, Malaikat, the pillars of Islam and the pillars of Islamic faith which is a completed-enough summary of aqidah Ahlussunnah Wal Jama'ah An-Nahdliyah. Second, the method of da'wah in this verse is da'wah bi al-qalam and bi al-lisan by using the psychological and cultural approach, namely regional language (Madura). Third, the everlastingness of this verse is supported by several factors; the method of habituation or repetition, spreading by the students, graduates, sympathizers, and several jam'iyah, and also because of the figures of the two authors.

Abstract

Video Dubbing, or adding translated dialogues into a film or series, has been applied as a learning method in EFL speaking courses. Students can download videos from any platform and record their voice-overs in English. Previous research primarily studied the effect on students' skills. The impact on motivation, confidence, and self-efficacy is still worth exploring. Therefore, this research examined the effectiveness of the Video Dubbing Project on EFL students' self-efficacy and proficiency in speaking. This research design is Mixed-methods, which are pre-experiment and descriptive qualitative. The subjects were 38 students in grade 9 of junior high school in Situbondo, Indonesia. The result showed that it was significantly effective in improving self-efficacy and proficiency. However, based on the qualitative data, this project was simple for proficient students, but for those with low self-efficacy, the absence of a requirement to show their faces on camera empowered them to attempt this project. Upon completing their videos, they often express surprise and satisfaction by saying, "Turns out! I can speak English."

Abstract

Many university instructors assess academic essay writing using general rubrics or borrowed instruments that do not align with specific course outcomes and learner profiles. This study was initiated to address this gap by developing a valid and reliable assessment instrument for academic essay writing among EFL university students, focusing on argumentative essays. The instrument was constructed systematically, involving needs analysis, expert validation, pilot testing, and statistical evaluation for reliability and validity. The trial was conducted with 6 students from the English Language Education Study Program, and their essays were rated by two trained raters. The results showed that the rubric successfully captured performance variation across six key writing components and allowed for consistent scoring with minimal discrepancies between raters. Expert validators confirmed that the rubric is clear, relevant, and aligned with academic essay writing expectations. Rater reliability analysis showed consistent inter-rater scores (score differences ≤1 point), indicating strong rubric usability. Based on these findings, this instrument offers a practical and theoretically grounded tool for assessing academic essay writing in EFL higher education settings.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping academic writing by offering both challenges and opportunities. Numerous studies have discussed this topic and are worth compiling and synthesising.  Based on the topic, several existing studies published from January 2023 to March 2025 were reviewed systematically using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) framework. After searches in Scopus and Google Scholar yielded 1,024 records, 34 titles were selected based on defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings highlight the two sides of AI in academic writing: 1) presenting ethical issues, training needs, Critical thinking degradation, AI misinformation, AI addiction, weak AI detectors, AI’s rhetorical patterns, users’ negative perceptions, and other challenges, 2) facilitating several opportunities, such as writing quality improvement (accuracy, organization, and style), writing productivity and efficiency, idea development, AI awareness, research support, new insights, writing engagement, and usability. This study contributed to developing guidelines to address ethical, effective, and prudent use of AI in academic writing. It is a foundation for upcoming researchers who delve into AI in academic writing and other related skills in the EFL teaching context. Moreover, investigations across disciplines and educational levels are worth exploring.
