Abstract

Increasing the production of liquid smoke is an attempt to raise the utilization of coconut shells as a by-product of the coconut fruit. The distillation process is a way to produce liquid smoke and condensation occured in the cooling bath. Improving the cooling bath can increase the production volume. This study aims to determine the performance of the cooling bath in 10 experiments with variations in the level of the water flow rate factor of 20 liters/minute, 25 liters/minute, 30 liters/minute, and the level of the airflow velocity factor of 35 m/s, 40 m/s. and 45 m/s. Modifying the cooling bath can improve its performance and increase the volume of liquid smoke. The largest increase of 36.14% was achieved at the water flow rate in the level of 30 liters/minute and the airflow velocity factor in the level of 45 m/s, at 26.2oC of the cooling bath temperature.

Abstract

Cost production efficiency through modified tunnel driyer by using the economizer so that the cost of fuel component eliminated. This study aimed to determine the performance of modified tunnel driyer associated with the quality of the product produced related to achived drying rate . From 3 (three) experiments conducted with variations in the hot air flow velocity of 0.5 m / sec, 0.7 m / sec, and 0.9 m / sec, it was found that only the first experiment occurred condensation and the resulting drying product was declared NG . From the results of the hypothesis independent sample t-test concluded the level of dryness of the results of the 3rd experimental product is better than the results of the 2nd experimental product. Thus, setting a hot air flow rate of 9 m / sec produces the most optimal modified dryer performance.

Abstract

Indonesia, with the availability of sunlight almost all year round, for spreading throughout Indonesia of solar dryer usage requires an inexpensive and durable. This study proposes a passive direct solar dryer because the simplest in construction, with aluminum mesh sheets as a heat-absorbing material, glass fiber as an insulating material. For the transparent cover, considering cost, durability, α value, and τ value, this study proposes 0.8 mm clear polycarbonate (PC), 2 mm clear glass, and 2 mm clear acrylic. From the experimental test results of the solar dryer model, the highest heat efficiency value for polycarbonate (PC) is 16%, the heat efficiency value for glass and acrylic is 10% and 8%, respectively. With these findings, the construction of solar dryers is simple, low cost, and durable, insulation uses glass fiber, heat absorbers use aluminum mash sheets, and transparent covers use PC instead of using glass in common with thinner sizes.

Abstract

An increase in greenhouse gases in the form of CO2 gas, a result of burning fuel in motorized vehicles, contributes to climate change. Technological approaches and the use of alternative fuels continue to be developed to reduce fuel consumption, but this is not enough. Another approach is eco-driving behavior. Replacing the air filter is one of the preventive maintenance activities on vehicles which is part of eco-driving behavior. This research intends to provide simple instructions for motorists so they can save fuel consumption. The results of the full-to-full test carried out 20 times can be a simple guide to eco-driving behavior, where the simple clue in question is the air filter replacement period. Replacing the air filter every 8,000 km and not every 16,000 km can save fuel consumption by 8% in the Krui area, 9% in the Tanjung Bintang area, and 6% in the Mesuji area.

Abstract

Renewable energy sources originating from solar are the most environmentally friendly energy because they do not cause any pollution. The utilization of solar energy can be in the form of a direct passive solar dryer for preserving agricultural and fishery products. Solar energy has limitations related to intermittent solar irradiation, so it is necessary to add Sensible Heat Storage (SHS) material to increase thermal efficiency. Pebble stones are an SHS material that is abundantly available in a variety of colors, and suitable for solar dryers with low-temperature requirements. The study aimed to find temperature conditions and thermal efficiency through experimental tests three times, twice with SHS material, respectively white and black pebble stones, and once without SHS material. The experimental test results found that the temperature of the drying chamber was more stable with the addition of SHS material, and the highest thermal efficiency was obtained from black pebble stones, namely 49%, and white pebble stones, 40%.

Abstract

The increase in greenhouse gases in the form of CO2 gas as vehicle exhaust emissions contributes to climate change. Technological approaches and alternative fuels continue to reduce fuel consumption, but this is not enough. Another method is to use eco-drive behavior, one of which is related to replacing the air filter. This study is purposed to provide guidelines for motorized vehicles operating in selected areas in Lampung Province in the behavior of eco-driving. The results of the fuel consumption test using the full-to-full method found that at each filter distance (8,000 km, 12000, and 16,000 km), vehicles operating in Mesuji with the highest deficiency, followed by Tanjung Bintang and Krui areas. In line with eco-drive behavior, for vehicles operating in Mesuji, the air filter replacement period must be faster than the other two areas, followed by Tanjung Bintang and Krui.
