Abstract

Topical gels are widely used because they are convenient to apply, easily absorbed, and have good stability. Carbopol 940 is one of the thickening agents often used in gel formulations because it can produce high viscosity at low concentrations and is compatible with various active ingredients. In gel formulation, the selection of Carbopol 940 concentration is very important to determine physical properties such as viscosity, pH, spreadability, and stability. Coriander leaves (Coriandrum sativum L.) contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins that have potential as antioxidants and antimicrobials. This study aims to examine the effect of Carbopol 940 concentration on the physical properties of gel containing coriander leaf extract by experimental method with variation of Carbopol 940 concentration in coriander leaf extract gel formulation. The physical properties of the gel, such as viscosity, pH, spreadability, and stability, were tested using physicochemical parameters to evaluate the effect of Carbopol concentration on the quality of the preparation. Coriander leaves (Coriandrum sativum L.) contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins that have potential as antioxidants and antimicrobials. The results showed that the concentration of Carbopol 940 significantly affected the physical properties of the gel, including viscosity, spreadability, and pH. The conclusion shows that the optimal formulation of Carbopol 940 can produce coriander leaf extract gel with physical properties that meet the requirements of topical drugs. Abstract

Aren (Arenga pinnata Merr.) is a biological resource believed to have antioxidant abilities and is easily found throughout Indonesia. It is widely used by the populace, for example in midrib flour as a traditional medicine to relieve itching and scars on the skin. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the palm leaf extract (Arenga pinnata Merr.) could be formulated into cream preparations and was of good quality. The research method used is experimental by formulating the extract into three formulations, namely the extract concentration of 1%, 3%, 5%. Data analysis was performed using qualitative analysis including organoleptic test, homogeneity test, and quantitative analysis including pH test, dispersion test, adhesion test, viscosity and using one-way ANOVA statistics. The results of the analysis showed that there was no significant difference in the concentration of palm midrib cream in pH with a sig value of 0.542 (sig. > 0.05), a dispersion of 0.504 (sig. > 0.05) and a Adhesion of 0.717 (sig. > 0.05) gave > 0.05) and the viscosity meets the standard of good cream viscosity which is between (2000 - 50000 cps). Data analysis of the results showed that the three variations of extracts could be formulated into cream preparations and had quality standards for cream preparations that met the requirements, there was no effect of variations in the concentration of arene (Arenga pinnata Merr.) on the physical quality of cream preparations. The best wording is found in F2 (3%). Further research is expected to modify the formula for preservatives and fragrance additives, create new dosage forms such as lotions.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Energy drinks are commonly consumed as a fast and affordable solution to fatigue, especially among adolescents and young adults. However, public knowledge about their appropriate use and the health risks of excessive intake remains limited. Taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid), a conditionally essential amino acid found in many energy drinks, contributes to several physiological functions. Excessive intake of taurine may adversely affect kidney function. Method: The method of this study using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. A 0.1% ninhydrin solution was used for qualitative testing, while UV-Vis spectrophotometry was employed for quantitative measurement. Proteins were precipitated using Carrez I and Carrez II reagents before analysis. Results: A purplish-blue color change in the qualitative test confirmed the presence of taurine. Quantitative analysis revealed taurine concentrations of 0.025% and 0.012% in the two samples.  Conclusion: The results validate UV-Vis spectrophotometry as a practical and dependable technique for analyzing taurine, highlighting the importance of educating the public on the associated health risks of excessive consumption.

Abstract

Background: It is often known that moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera L.) are a natural substance with many advantages, especially for their antibacterial qualities that prevent the growth of bacteria. Objectives: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of particular face mist preparation made from Moringa leaf extract in inhibiting the growth of Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria that causes facial acne. Methods: A facial mist containing moringa extract was created, and its antibacterial qualities were assessed using the Kirby-Bauer technique in conjuction with the agar duffision method. Results: The face mist preparation effectively satiated the homogeneity, pH, viscosity, and spray pattern physical assesment criteria in the organoleptic test. Conclusions: Strong anti-acne and antibacterial properties were present in the face mist preparation made from moringa leaf extract, especially at a concentration of 45% that sucesfully stopped the growth of all test.
