Abstract

Background: Anxiety problems are often experienced by patients in hospitals due to various factors, such as medical conditions, medical procedures, or unfamiliar environments. One of the non-pharmacological interventions that has been widely studied to manage anxiety is guided imagery therapy. Objective: This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of guided imagery therapy in addressing anxiety problems in hospital patients. Methods: Literature searches were conducted on databases such as Google Scholar, Science Direct, and Pubmed. Article searches were carried out systematically from 2019-2024 using severalkeywords, namely "hemodialysis", or "guided imagery", or "anxiety", or "Patients in hospitals". Search for articles in English and Indonesia. Studies that met the inclusion criteria, i.e. experimental or quasi-experimental studies that evaluated the effects of guided imagery therapy on the anxiety levels of hospital patients, were further analysed. Data were extracted and compared to identify key findings. Results: : Studies show that guided imagery therapy can significantly lower anxiety levels in hospital patients, both before and after certain procedures. Positive effects were seen more pronounced in patients who underwent the intervention over several sessions compared to a single session. Additionally, patients reported improved relaxation, mood, and an overall more positive experience during the treatment period. Conclusion: : Guided imagery therapy is an effective and easy-to-apply approach to overcome anxiety in hospital patients. This intervention can be an additional option for health workers to improve the quality of health services, especially for patients with high levels of anxiety. Further studies are needed to explore the effects of these therapies in the context of the wider patient culture and population.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease which is a very serious health problem and the main cause of death throughout the world. This community service aims to increase knowledge of how to treat hypertension through education to the community. Service activities were carried out on Tuesday 21 March 2023 at Mitra Medika Bondowoso Hospital using lecture and discussion methods. with 25 participants to find out about hypertension in patients. The way to find out knowledge related to hypertension prevention and control behavior used in community service activities is to ask and answer questions directly to patients. Before being given education in the form of health education about asthma, participants were given a question and answer session and after delivering the material a question and answer session was held to find out the participants' knowledge about hypertension. The evaluation results showed that participants understood hypertension. Public knowledge about hypertension is increasing and people are motivated to get access to treatment and knowledge about how to recognize and prevent hypertension after health education is carried out. It is hoped that this community service activity can be carried out continuously to increase public knowledge regarding various other health problems.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. DM management requires a comprehensive approach involving glucose management, pharmacological therapy, lifestyle changes, and ongoing health education. This study aims to describe the implementation of nursing care for patients with DM through a glucose management and health education approach. The research design used a case study conducted on a patient with type 2 DM hospitalized in an internal medicine ward. The nursing care process included assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Interventions provided included blood glucose monitoring, nutritional management, physical activity education, foot care, and increased adherence to drug therapy. The results showed a decrease in the patient's blood glucose level from 280 mg/dL to 165 mg/dL after 5 days of intervention, improved patient understanding of DM management, and improved patient self-care skills. Health education has been shown to play a crucial role in improving self-management behaviors and reducing the risk of long-term complications.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease (NCD) whose prevalence continues to increase in Indonesia and is a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Lack of public knowledge about hypertension and low awareness of the need for regular health check-ups often results in hypertension going undetected early. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness about hypertension through health education and free blood pressure checks. The activity was conducted in the neighborhood unit (RW) 05, X Village, and involved 102 participants aged 25–70 years. The activities included interactive health education, blood pressure checks, short interviews, and healthy lifestyle education. The results showed an increase in public knowledge, and 28 participants (27.4%) had blood pressure above normal, most of whom had never had a routine check-up before. Participants expressed satisfaction and found this activity very helpful and hoped that similar activities would be conducted regularly. This activity demonstrates that free health education and check-ups are very beneficial in increasing public awareness of hypertension and have the potential to prevent complications through early detection.

Abstract

Emergency situations and mass casualty incidents require nurses to make rapid, accurate, and evidence-based decisions, particularly in triage using the Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment (START) system. Nurses’ affective competence, including confidence, motivation, and emotional readiness, is crucial for effective triage. However, the relationship between length of service and affective competence remains underexplored in Indonesian community health centers. This cross-sectional study involved 27 nurses from 18 community health centers in Banten Province, Indonesia. A 15-item 4-point Likert questionnaire assessed affective competence in START triage, categorized into low, moderate, and high levels. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analyzed the relationship between length of service and affective competence, with significance set at p < 0.05. Respondents were nearly evenly distributed by gender (48.1% male, 51.9% female) with a mean age of 37.07 ± 7.01 years and mean work experience of 14.81 ± 7.40 years. Most nurses (70.8%) demonstrated high affective competence, 29.2% moderate, and none low. Participants reported high confidence in understanding, explaining, and applying START, although some experienced difficulty in real-life scenarios. Correlation analysis indicated no significant relationship between length of service and affective competence (r = -0.053, p = 0.793). Nurses’ affective competence appears more influenced by training and practical experience than years of service. Structured training programs are essential to enhance affective competence in START triage, regardless of professional tenure.
