Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada studi perbandingan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis teks naratif antara menggunakan gambar dan video animasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan mana dari dua media tersebut yang dapat meningkatkan produktivitas mahasiswa dalam menulis teks naratif dan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara prestasi menulis mahasiswa yang diajarkan menggunakan gambar dan video animasi. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, peneliti melakukan beberapa tes. Pre-test bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah kedua variabel memiliki skor rata-rata yang sama atau tidak dan post-test diberikan untuk mengidentifikasi pengembangan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis teks naratif setelah diajarkan menggunakan gambar dan video animasi. Selain itu, peneliti menggunakan rumus T-Test untuk menganalisis masalah. 60 mahasiswa berpartisipasi sebagai sampel penelitian ini. Mereka berasal dari dua kelas yang berbeda, yaitu Program studi Ilmu Komunikasi dan program studi Administrasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa baik gambar dan video animasi direkomendasikan untuk membantu mahasiswa meningkatkan produktivitas mereka dalam menulis teks naratif dan tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis teks naratif antara menggunakan gambar dan video animasi yang ditunjukkan oleh nilai. T-test 0,07, yang tidak melewati nilai kritis DF 56 (2,00).

Abstract

Di Indonesia sendiri media massa lebih banyak memberikan fungsi hiburan kepada publik. Salah satu media massa tersebut yaitu film, dalam artikel ini akan di analisis filem Imperfect, tujuan penelitian ini adalah agar dapat mengetahui makna kecantikan dan body shaming yang terdapat dalam film Imperfect: Karier, Cinta dan Timbangan Karya Ernest Prakasa, metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode Deskriptif menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik analisi semiotika, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Karier, Cinta dan Timbangan mampu memberikan sebuah penjelasan tentang makna kecantikan dan body shaming itu sendiri. Dari hasil penelitian yang dilakukan oleh peneliti, ditemukan tanda yang mengacuh pada makna cantik dan body shaming di kehidupan sehari-hari, khususnya terhadap perempuan

Abstract

This community service project aimed to strengthen youth leadership capacity and organizational legitimacy through the establishment of Karang Taruna in Anjereuw Village, Papua. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, the program was conducted over 1.5 months in three phases: organizational initiation, cadre training, and legalization through a Village Head Decree issued by the Head of Anjereuw Village (No. 240/001/SK.KEL.ANJW/IX/2025), witnessed by the District Head. Thirty-five youths participated, representing most of the eligible youth in the village, with over 70 percent remaining actively engaged. Activities included participatory meetings, leadership workshops, and facility construction. The program produced three measurable results: (1) legal recognition of Karang Taruna, (2) a public stage for social–cultural events, and (3) a multifunctional youth space supporting small-scale creative business activities. These achievements improved leadership competence, strengthened institutional credibility, and encouraged local entrepreneurship. The findings indicate that combining participatory engagement, organizational development, and practical economic initiatives can provide a sustainable model for youth capacity building and community resilience in rural Papua.

Abstract

Adolescents’ high digital media engagement does not automatically translate into communicative competence In the digital communication era, particularly in peripheral regions with limited school resources. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a one-day community service workshop aimed at enhancing public speaking and foundational broadcasting skills among 40 students aged 13–15 at SMP YPPK Biak, Papua. The workshop employed a participatory, experiential learning approach combining explanation, demonstration, guided practice, and peer feedback, facilitated jointly by university lecturers and campus radio practitioners. Data were collected using pre–post tests, structured observation sheets, participatory observation, and satisfaction questionnaires to measure confidence, knowledge, practical skills, and engagement. Results show that students’ confidence in public speaking increased from 33% to 48%, while understanding of articulation, posture, eye contact, and vocal projection rose from 45% to 62%, accompanied by a decrease in visible anxiety from 62% to 49%. Broadcasting knowledge improved from 18% to 71%, with 85% of students demonstrating correct microphone handling, 73% maintaining proper distance, and 68% improving rhythm and pacing during simulations. Over 90% of participants reported the workshop as useful and enjoyable, and teachers observed increased expressiveness and readiness to engage in school–university broadcasting collaborations. These findings indicate that short-term, practice-oriented interventions can effectively develop communication competence, boost confidence, and foster motivation among adolescents, while providing a replicable model for participatory learning and sustainable school-based broadcasting initiatives in resource- limited contexts.

Abstract

This study examined the use of speech acts in student-produced podcasts to explore how English as a Foreign Language learners developed pragmatic competence in authentic communication. The research was motivated by the gap between classroom instruction and students’ ability to use English appropriately in real contexts. The objective was to identify the types of speech acts employed, analyze their communicative functions, and highlight pedagogical implications. A qualitative descriptive approach with discourse analysis was applied. Data consisted of two podcasts produced by second-semester Communication Science students at IISIP YAPIS Biak, Papua. The recordings were transcribed, segmented into utterances, and coded according to Searle’s five categories of speech acts. To support interpretation, frequencies and percentages were calculated descriptively to show the relative dominance of each type. The findings revealed that representatives, directives, and expressives were most frequently used, while commissives were rare and declarations were absent. Students used speech acts strategically to open and close interactions, guide questioning, elaborate on ideas, and build rapport. The study concluded that podcast production provided a meaningful platform for practicing pragmatic competence, allowing students to balance formality and informality, sustain interaction, and develop interpersonal awareness. The findings implied that integrating podcasts into language learning can enrich communicative practice and bridge classroom learning with authentic use of English.
