Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood characterized by physical, psychological, and social changes, including the biological functioning of the reproductive organs. Menstrual pain that is not promptly managed can affect an individual’s mental and physical functioning, thus requiring immediate intervention through pharmacological or non-pharmacological therapies. Acupressure therapy can be used as a treatment for dysmenorrhea by applying massage techniques to specific meridian points on the body. One of the points that can be used to relieve dysmenorrhea is the Hegu (LI4) point. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of acupressure therapy on dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls at SMPN 5 Jagoi Babang. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretet-posttest two-group design approach. The sample consisted of adolescent girls selected using a total sampling technique. The participants were divided into two groups: the control group received no intervention, while the experimental group received acupressure therapy at the LI4 point. The paired t test was used for within-group analysis, and the independen t test was used for between-group analysis. Results: The results showed that acupressure therapy was effective in reducing dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls (p < 0.000). The administration of LI4 acupressure therapy was more effective than no intervention (p = 0.000). Conclusion: Acupressure therapy at the LI4 point is clinically effective and statistically significant in reducing dysmenorrhea compared to no intervention. Abstract

Background: Labor pain can cause anxiety and fatigue, which may affect the progress of labor and fetal well-being. One approach to managing labor pain is through non-pharmacological methods, such as endorphin massage and instrumental music therapy, specifically sape music. Objective: To analyze the effect of endorphin massage and sape music therapy on labor pain before and after treatment in Mempawah Regency. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest– posttest nonequivalent control group design. The study population consisted of women in the active phase of the first stage of labor from August to October 2025, totaling 97 individuals. A total of 30 participants were selected, consisting of 15 participants in the intervention group who received endorphin massage combined with sape music therapy and 15 participants in the control group. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling. Results: The mean labor pain score before and after the administration of Sape's music therapy and endorphin massage in the intervention group decreased from 6.33 to 4.67, while in the control group, it decreased from 6.33 to 4.66. There was a significant effect of Sape's music therapy and endorphin massage on labor pain (p-value < 0.001). There was no significant difference in the mean pain scores between the intervention and control groups (p = 1,000). However, after treatment, the mean labor pain score in the intervention group was lower than that in the control group (p=0.039). Conclusion: Endorphin massage combined with sape ' music therapy was more effective than endorphin massage alone, with a mean difference of 1.000 in the endorphin massage and sape ' music therapy group and 0.039 in the endorphin massage-only group. Recommendation: It is recommended that endorphin massage and sape music therapy be applied as alternative non-pharmacological methods for managing labor pain and further developed in future studies with larger sample sizes.

Abstract

Background: Adolescence is characterized by increased iron requirements, while anemia remains prevalent among female adolescents, with rates of 48.9% nationally (Riskesdas 2018), 25.77% in Singkawang City (2024), and 7.01% at SMAN 9 South Singkawang. Anemia prevention includes iron tablet supplementation and mung bean juice consumption to support hemoglobin formation. Purpose: To analyze the effect of mung bean juice and iron tablet supplementation on hemoglobin levels among female adolescents at SMAN 9 South Singkawang, West Kalimantan. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest two-group approach. The sample consisted of female adolescents selected using a random sampling technique. Participants were divided into two groups: the control group received mung bean juice, while the intervention group received a combination of mung bean juice and iron tablet supplementation. With a total sample of 54 respondents. Paired t-test was used to analyze the effect within groups, and independent t-test was applied to compare the effects between groups. Results: The mean hemoglobin level in the intervention group increased from 12.3 g/dL to 13.5 g/dL, while in the control group it increased from 12.0 g/dL to 12.9 g/dL. There was a significant increase in hemoglobin (Hb) levels in both groups after the intervention (p < 0.000), and the combination of mung bean juice and iron tablet supplementation was more effective than mung bean juice alone (p = 0.005). Conclusion: The combination of mung bean juice and iron tablet supplementation was clinically effective and statistically significant in increasing hemoglobin levels among female adolescents compared to mung bean juice alone.
