Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of applying tangram media on the mathematics learning outcomes of first-grade students at MI Adabiyah 2 Palembang. The research type used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent control group design. Data collection techniques include observation, tests, and documentation. The research sample consists of two classes: class I.3 as the experimental group using tangram media, and class I.4 as the control group using conventional methods. The analysis results show that the average posttest score of the experimental class is higher than that of the control class, with average pretest scores of 59.25 and 48.84, and posttest scores of 83.79 and 64.08 for each class, respectively. Statistical testing shows a significance value of 0.000, indicating a significant effect of using tangram media on students' mathematics learning outcomes. These findings emphasize that tangram media is effective in improving the understanding of flat geometry concepts through visual, kinesthetic, and interactive approaches. Therefore, the use of tangram media is highly recommended as an enjoyable and meaningful learning strategy at the elementary education level.

Abstract

This study examines the learning difficulties experienced by fifth-grade students in solving mathematics problems based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) at SD Negeri 20 Banyuasin III. The aim of the study is to analyze the types and factors of difficulties as well as the strategies to overcome them. The research uses a descriptive phenomenological qualitative approach, involving 16 students and supporting informants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured observation guides, in-depth interview protocols, and documentation, and then analyzed interactively through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, along with triangulation validation. The findings indicate that students face significant challenges in understanding concepts, planning solutions, implementing strategies, and evaluating answers, influenced by low motivation, intellectual limitations, lack of parental support, and media distractions. The study concludes that teacher interventions such as motivation enhancement, problem-solving practice, and collaboration with parents help but are not yet fully effective. Further research is recommended to expand the sample and explore innovative interventions.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the challenges faced by teachers as well as the strategies used to overcome them. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with participants consisting of the school principal, homeroom teachers, and students selected through purposive sampling. Data collection techniques include structured interviews, non-participant observations, and documentation, while data analysis follows the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings indicate that teachers experience significant obstacles in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the P5 program, particularly in determining performance concepts, managing time, and preparing costumes and properties. The study highlights that collaboration among teachers, school leaders, and parents, along with the use of simple materials, is effective in addressing these challenges. The conclusion asserts that the implementation of P5 strengthens students’ character and awareness of diversity; however, further research is needed to generalize the findings and explore the role of technology in project-based learning.
