Abstract

A language that a person uses on a daily basis inside a society is a flexible tool that can change to meet the needs of its users and the times. The Dutch language continues to have a significant influence on post-colonial writing, particularly in novels and romances. Y. B. Mangunwijaya's Burung-Burung Manyar is a well-known work of post-colonial literature. Teto, the protagonist, is at the heart of the narrative, spinning a tale of adolescent infatuation with undertones of colonialism, treachery, retaliation, and disappointment. Readers are given a sense of wonder by the unusual usage of language. Y. B. Mangunwijaya's choice of language in this story is a fascinating example of how Dutch culture is represented. He gives considerable thought to how a Javanese-born individual who speaks Indonesian as their first language may utilize a Dutch phrase. This phenomenon led the author to use linguistic style and diction to delve deeper into this facet. The research's conclusions are as follows: (1) the author of the novel successfully employs and modifies the diction to represent Dutch culture; and (2) the author's consideration of the speaker's context enables the diction to accurately represent Dutch culture through the linguistic interaction of two cultures, Javanese and Dutch. Keywords: Burung-Burung Manyar, culture, stylistics, acculturation.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to investigate mistakes in phonology. Phonology is the aspect of language concerned with the sound system that is produced by human speech organs. Mistakes in phonology take place when words spoken by the speaking tools do not correspond to their intended pronunciation, thus affecting the diversity of oral and written forms of a language. Specific errors encompass phoneme deletion and addition. Therefore, there is a necessity for error analysis in language so as to recognize and assess them for useful teaching and learning techniques in schools. The data used in this research consists of errors made at the phonological level which were observed among fruit buyers at Karangpucung market while source data refers to utterances made by these participants in this market. Consequently, this study employs a qualitative descriptive design, listening to conversations containing phonological errors using note-taking to record these language errors at the said level. Keywords: Language, Phonology, Error Analysis

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of everyday language in the context of interpersonal communication using a psycholinguistic approach in an academic setting. Through in-depth interviews, document analysis, and psycholinguistic studies, findings reveal variations in language style depending on the communication context. Students tend to adapt their language according to the situation, both inside and outside the classroom. Text message analysis also reveals the impact of social media on language use. The positive correlation between positive language expressions and positive emotions suggests that language can reflect and influence the emotional atmosphere in interpersonal communication. Practical implications include the development of communication training programs tailored to specific contexts, while recommendations for further research involve further exploration of the influence of social media and cross-cultural research on changes in everyday language. Keywords: Language, Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Psycholinguistic Studies.
