Abstract

Collage work is the art of cutting and sticking on a flat surface, in the form of two-dimensional works of art that use various materials as a medium to create an artistic composition. In this case, the collage work comes from a program initiated by the Komunitas Gubuak Kopi entitled Daur Subur, which is an art platform as a study of the culture that develops in agricultural communities in Solok City, West Sumatra. In the Daur Subur program there is an archive of documentation collected during activities, which have been running from 2017 until now. In 2018 the Daur Subur#4 program launched a special theme entitled "Bakureh." This collection of archives on the theme "Bakureh" was then made into a collage work carried out through an interpretation process. The method used in producing this work refers to Alma Hawkins which consists of; exploration, improvisation, and shaping. This method will be used in every process of creating a collage work, from collecting all the curated archives to finishing the work. From this process eight works were created with the title; Proses Bakureh, Dapur dan Tungku, Julo-Julo, Pesta Warga, Rumah dan Istirahatnya, Bararak Menuju Sore, Gotong Royong, dan Suasana Dapur dan kepala yang Sibuk. After the collage work is created, the work is then presented by hanging it on a sketchpad and arranging it according to the concept and title of each work. The publication was carried out in the form of a solo exhibition which was given the same title as the Daur Subur program, namely “Potongan di Meja Dapur Komunal”

Abstract

Maapam tradition is an annual tradition of the West Pasaman community, held during the month of rajab through the collective preparation of apam as an expression of gratitude, charity, and to welcome the holy month of ramadhan. This tradition carries both religious and social values, reflecting togetherness and communal activities passed down through generations. However, these local wisdom values have rarely been translated into textile craftworks, as maapam has traditionally been known merely as an annual activity without visual forms or physical symbols that signify or represent it as a cultural heritage. Therefore, the creation of batik motifs becomes an effort to present symbolic visual forms, document its values, and strengthen cultural identity so that it is more easily recognized and transmitted to future generations. This creative research aims to design motifs derived from the values and meanings of the maapam tradition through stylization, as well as to realize these motifs on long cloth using the hand-drawn batik technique. The method applied refers to the craft art creation process, consisting of the stages of exploration, design, realization, and presentation. The result is hand-drawn batik cloth representing the values of gratitude, togetherness, sharing, and mutual cooperation in the maapam tradition. The systematic application of this method produces batik works that are not only aesthetically valuable but also deeply meaningful as a form of preserving local traditions

Abstract

Travel photography is not merely about documenting spaces and events, but also representing the experiences, culture, and social interactions of a region. This creative research explores Bintan Island through a travel photography approach, presenting natural landscapes, coastal communities, and cultural and spiritual dimensions. The methods applied include preparation, exploration, experimentation, and completion stages. Data was collected through observation and interviews, while the creative process was based on basic photography theory, feature photography, documentation, photo stories, ethnography, and human interest. The resulting work consists of five photographs in three categories: natural landscapes, portraits of social interactions, and local culture. Technically, slow speed and stop action techniques, wide-angle lenses, exposure settings, and GND and CPL filters were used for tonal balance. The results confirm that travel photography can be a narrative medium that captures visual beauty as well as social dynamics, landscape changes, and the spiritual values of coastal communities.
