Abstract

The widespread use of the internet has led to a new activity involving individuals in spreading goodness through voluntary social engagement. This activity is known as online volunteering. The flexible nature of online volunteering has increased interest and enthusiasm, particularly among emerging adults, motivating them to participate in such activities. However, research on this phenomenon, especially among emerging adults, is still limited. This study aims to explore the various forms of motivation among emerging adults to participate in online volunteering. A total of 205 emerging adult participants who have previously or are currently engaged in online volunteering activities are recruited to complete the Volunteer Functions Inventory adaptation scale. Descriptive analysis indicates that out of the six proposed motivation forms, Motivations related to understanding, values, and enhancement play a crucial role in motivating emerging adults to engage in online volunteering. These three motivational factors serve as the primary incentives for emerging adults to develop themselves and achieve their goals. Additionally, the study finds that emerging adults who engage in online volunteering activities for 6 months to 1 year and those who participate in environmental online volunteering exhibit higher motivation compared to those engaged in volunteering for longer durations and in other volunteer fields. Overall, this research identifies a high level of motivation among emerging adults participating in online volunteering activities, categorizing it as a significant driving factor.

Abstract

People with spider phobia experience excessive anxiety reactions when exposed to spiders that will interfere with daily life. Diagnosing and measuring anxiety levels in patients with spider phobia is a complex challenge. Conventional diagnosis requires psychological evaluations and clinical interviews that take time and often result in a high degree of subjectivity. Therefore, there is a need for a more objective and efficient approach to measuring anxiety levels in patients. This study performs anxiety level classification based on electrodermal activity, electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiratory signals using the dataset of Arachnophobia subjects. Each raw data is preprocessed using 24 types of features. Feature performance is processed using the recursive feature elimination method. Data processing was performed in 3 anxiety levels (high, medium, low) and two anxiety levels (high, low) with the support vector machine method and hold-out validation method (7:3). The performance of the model is evaluated by showing the accuracy, precision, recall and F1 score values. The polynomial kernel can perform optimal classification and obtain 100% accuracy in 2 classes and three classes with 100% precision, recall, and F1 score values. This result shows excellent potential in measuring anxiety levels that correlate with mental health issues.

Abstract

Technological developments have changed habits in watching television, it rise up to the phenomenon of binge watching which is watching several episodes of a series at once. Television which previously could only be accessed offline, nowadays can be accessed online via Video on Demand (VoD) services. Most VoD service users are generation Z and are likely to be affected by Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) namely the fear of losing information about a series or film that is being discussed by other people. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between binge watching video on demand and FoMO in generation Z. This research uses a quantitative approach with a purposive sampling technique. The research subjects were 280 respondents with an age range of 29-21 years and came from various provinces in Indonesia. Data collection in this study used the adaptation measuring tools Binge-Watching Engagement and Symptoms Questionnaire (BWESQ) and Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOS). Data analysis using Pearson Correlation shows a significant value of p=0.0010.05 with a correlation (r) of 0.456 which shows that there is a significant relationship between Binge Watching and FoMO.Perkembangan teknologi mengubah kebiasaan dalam menonton televisi sehingga memunculkan fenomena binge watching yaitu menonton beberapa episode serial sekaligus.
