Abstract

Land cover change in the watershed area in Ambon City has an impact on land degradation, water pollution, flooding and erosion. Therefore, the utilization and efficiency of land cover in the watershed area must be improved based on sustainable land cover planning.  This study aims to analyze land cover changes in the Wae Heru watershed, Ambon City in 2013, 2018, and 2023 and predict land cover in 2028.  This study used the CA-Markov method to predict land cover in 2028. The results showed that in 2013 the built-up land had an area of 74.25 ha, in 2018 an area of 79.30 ha and in 2023 an area of 88.00 ha and the results of the 2028 prediction of built-up land were 116.96 ha, this is certainly influenced by the increasing number of residents who continue to grow every year. Agricultural land, non-agricultural land and open land continue to decrease in area. The results of this prediction are very useful for the government in making policies related to sustainable spatial planning in the future.

Abstract

The topographic condition of Tidore Island, where 50% of the area is on a steep slope, makes Tidore Island prone to landslides during the rainy season. This research aims to spatially identify landslide prone areas in Tidore Island using slope morphology method. SMORPH method is conducted by identifying and classifying potential landslide areas based on slope shape and slope angle matrix. The result of this study shows that high landslide potential area is 2,569.42 ha, medium potential area is 3,296.99 ha, low potential area is 4,778.46 ha, and very low potential area is 1,126.55 ha. Among the sub-districts in Tidore Island, North Tidore has the largest presentation area of 892.48 ha. It can be concluded that areas with steep slopes and convex or concave slope shapes have higher landslide potential. The findings of this research are expected to help local government in future spatial planning efforts for landslide mitigation.

Abstract

Modeling of flood-prone areas is needed to provide information as an initial step in future flood disaster mitigation efforts. This research aims to spatially analyze the level of flood vulnerability and affected settlements in the Hunimual Sub-district. The method used is Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) by weighting the value of each variable. The variables that influence flooding in this study consist of land elevation, slope, land cover, distance from the river, geology, and rainfall. The determination of weights and scores in this study is an expert judgment. The weighting results are then overlaid to obtain a flood vulnerability map. The results show that the level of flood vulnerability is dominated by the very low vulnerability level of 69.09%, low vulnerability of 22.50%, and high vulnerability of 8.41% of the total area of the research location. The area of settlements affected by flooding is 556.47 ha. The results of this study are expected to be used as a basis for future flood disaster mitigation efforts to minimize losses, both casualties and physical damage in Hunimual District

Abstract

The application of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology in analyzing landslide-prone areas in Ambon Island, Indonesia, is becoming increasingly important given the hilly geographical conditions of Ambon Island and its slopes, making landslides a frequent occurrence. This study used slope, soil type, rainfall, and land cover variables. This research used the Storie Index Method to analyze landslide prone areas in Ambon Island. The results showed that Ambon Island has a medium vulnerability level of 38,282.53 ha, a high class of 23,922.00 ha, and a low landslide prone level with an area of 21,676.08 ha. The results of this study are expected to be used as a policy recommendation for future landslide mitigation in Ambon Island.

Abstract

Landslides seriously threaten safety and sustainable development in Ternate City, Indonesia, due to tectonic activity, steep topography, high rainfall, and urbanization pressure. This study aims to map landslide-prone areas using Geographic Information System and the weighted overlay method by integrating seven parameters: elevation, slope, soil type, geology, land use, rainfall, and distance from active faults. The analysis results show that slopes >40% and areas near active faults have the highest risk. Based on the total area of 10,162 ha, 51% (5,197 ha) is classified as a high-risk zone, 31% (3,123 ha) as medium risk, and 18% (1,842 ha) as low risk. These findings emphasize the need for risk-zoning-based mitigation priorities, such as strengthening spatial planning policies, building disaster-resistant infrastructure, and educating communities. This research not only provides a scientific basis for development planning and disaster risk reduction in Ternate but also provides a methodological framework that can be adapted in other landslide-prone areas, especially in volcanic island regions with similar geographical conditions.
