Abstract

Bencana Kebakaran Hutan dan Lahan (KARHUTLA) sudah kerap kali terjadi di wilayah Indonesia setiap tahunnya, khususnya pada musim kemarau. Kabut asap yang merupakan dampak dari KARHUTLA juga dirasakan oleh negara tetangga, yaitu Malaysia. Hal ini mengundang perhatian media Malaysia maupun Indonesia untuk menyoroti isu kabut asap yang kian meresahkan kedua negara tersebut. Isi pemberitaan dibingkai oleh media dari beberapa sudut pandang berita yang merepresentasikan Indonesia dengan Malaysia yang saling melempar tanggung jawab atas dampak kabut asap kebakaran hutan. Pembingkaian tersebut menciptakan persepsi realitas yang berbeda. Hal inilah yang membuat peneliti tertarik untuk menelaah secara lebih dalam gambaran dan fenomena tentang pemberitaan KARHUTLA dengan menggunakan metode penelitian pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan framing analysis model Robert N.Entman sebagai alat untuk membedah pemberitaan media yang mengulas permasalahan KARHUTLA dari perspektif masing – masing. Atas dasar riset yang dilakukan peneliti, portal berita online The Star Malaysia dan Kompas.com Indonesia ditetapkan sebagai subjek penelitian. Sedangkan yang menjadi objek penelitian ini adalah pemberitaan terkait KARHUTLA. Hasil framing analysis memperlihatkan adanya upaya media untuk membentuk persepsi realitas negara Indonesia dan Malaysia yang saling “tuding-menuding” perihal tanggung jawab bencana KARHUTLA. Akibatnya image bangsa Indonesia diciderai oleh isi pemberitaan media.

Abstract

ABSTRACTForest and Land Fire Disasters (KARHUTLA) recurrently occur in Indonesia every year, especially in the dry season. In addition to numerous places in Indonesia, neighboring country like Malaysia also got affected by the after effects of KARHUTLA: smog. As a result, Smog has greatly been a concerned issue of both Malaysian and Indonesian media. While both of the media reporting on the same issue, fundamentally both media have different perspectives representing both countries; none of them wants to be held as solely responsible party that triggered the disaster. News framing that has been applied by the media to speak for their subjective objectivity shapes a distinct perception of reality among their audiences as a consequence. This is what makes researchers interested in analyzing more deeply the description and phenomenon of KARHUTLA reporting by using a descriptive qualitative research method. This study uses the Robert N. Entman framing analysis model as a tool to dissect media coverage of KARHUTLA issues from their respective perspectives. On the basis of research conducted by researchers, the online news portal The Star Malaysia and Kompas.com Indonesia were established as research subjects. While the object of this research is the news related to KARHUTLA. The results of the framing analysis show that there are media efforts to shape the perception of the reality of the states of Indonesia and Malaysia that are "accusing" each another of the KARHUTLA disaster and “making scapegoat” for the responsibility for it. Abstract

Do not judge the book by its cover. As good as it may sound, it is almost impossible to do so. As inquisitive human nature, we judge people based on what we see on them; the first time we meet them. Even though we did that many times and every time we meet someone new, the research in the field of first impression is little in numbers if we are about to compare within the field of communication science. On top of that, with the development of communication technology, people are seeking someone new as a potential life partner through virtual space. This research employed a qualitative approach to seeking the answer about "how men form a first impression based on a still photograph?". The data in the form of an interview, analyzed using four fundamental concepts of communication: verbal cues, non-verbal cues, information gathering and formation, and lastly, the concept of culture. The result shows that there are several aspects that men emphasize on to make the first impression through a photograph. 1. Facial Features, 2. Existence of makeup, 3. Accessories, 4. Body proportion. Furthermore, specific facial features such as eyes, lips, etc. They are proven to be the most important factor that men use to judge. Cultural values are used as a means of interpretation of the information they could get.

Abstract

Within the eastern culture, Tattoo has various meanings. They were resulting in range of perceptions towards people with a tattoo on their body. This study aimed to explore the alteration of meaning towards Tattoo in Indonesian urban society. This study use ethnography aimed to explain reasons and elements behind a cultural phenomenon. Liminal situation theory, used as an analysis tool to explore Tattoo cultural resistance. The results show that various meanings and symbols are attached to a tattoo in the act of self-expression method. Further results show that Tattoo also has a function as a cultural preservation method, notably Indonesian culture, in the form of a sub-culture. Tattoos are not only popular and owned by one group of people within a society but in a huge range of ages and social hierarchies.

Abstract

The Middle Eastern media generally promotes the dignity of women more. The issues facing women who have endured conflict or sexual assault are constantly brought up in the news and widely distributed through movies. Discourse based on media culture demonstrates how firmly the Middle East supports the rights and dignity of women. The desire of the media to demonstrate the strength and might of a nation, a person, or a viewpoint is directly tied to the political and economic interests of this. Power relations are actually depicted in Middle Eastern media by a culture that has evolved from generation to generation. Unlike before the movement to uphold women’s rights, men's right to express their masculinity is now limited. This is the state of the art in scientific writings that take a media, political economy, and history approach to studying Middle Eastern media culture. Researchers in Indonesia still hardly ever use qualitative research methodologies that take a media political economy perspective with four units of analysis, including history, social totality, morality, and praxis orientation, that are connected to media cultures outside of Indonesia (the Middle East). The goal of this study was to determine the Middle Eastern countries' power structures based on their publicized media cultures. The Middle East is particularly receptive to industrialization that helps women, as shown by historical characteristics of the region that produce films and news about women's fights that women always win over males. Furthermore, the Middle East is home to a large number of female political figures, demonstrating that the media's political economy interests in promoting women are upheld there.

Abstract

The Indonesian government has launched a MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) go digital program. Government support for MSMEs has had an impact on the increasingly rapid development of MSME digital businesses. Especially in DKI Jakarta, many MSMEs have collaborated with technology through e-commerce. MSME digital businesses are increasingly mushrooming, causing digital business competition to become increasingly fierce, requiring MSME business entrepreneurs to think creatively and actively survive in facing challenges. Therefore, running a digital business for MSMEs requires a digital business management communication strategy that can provide direction and positive reinforcement for MSME business entrepreneurs to continue to survive in facing challenges. The objectives of this research are 1) to find out how digital business management communication strategies influence the optimism of business entrepreneurs in facing challenges; 2) to find out how to implement MSME digital business management communication strategies; 3) to find out how an optimistic attitude is formed in carrying out MSME digital business processes. This type of research is quantitative using an exploratory causality method. The research data is secondary data taken from 52 MSME business entrepreneurs in DKI Jakarta. The sampling technique was carried out incidentally. The research results show that: 1) there is a positive and significant influence of digital business management communication strategies on the optimistic attitude of MSME entrepreneurs with a contribution of 40.9% and the remaining 59.1% is explained by other variables; 2) digital business management communication strategy in running MSME businesses, namely business entrepreneurs in DKI Jakarta have implemented a proportional or balanced business communication strategy, namely planning at 24.15%; organizing by 25.20%; actuating by 23.65% and controlling by 27.00%; 3) the attitude of optimism that MSME entrepreneurs have in running a business is classified as proportional, namely permanence at 33.71%, pervasiveness at 32.58%, and personalization at 33.71%

Abstract

One of the provinces in Indonesia famous for its diverse local cuisine is the Bangka Belitung Province, particularly in Belitung Regency. One of the well-known local dishes from Belitung is Mie Rebus Belitung. Mie Rebus Belitung is a preparation of yellow noodles drenched in hot shrimp broth. This dish is even recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. Besides being considered a filling meal, Mie Rebus Belitung also reflects the culture, identity, and history that form the local identity of Belitung. This research aims to examine the role of the local dish Mie Rebus Belitung in preserving the cultural identity in Belitung. The theories utilized in this research are the Cultural Heritage Theory and the Cultural Representation & Heritage Theory. The research methodology employed is qualitative research. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with cultural experts from Belitung and literature reviews. The result of this research is that Mie Rebus Belitung contains cultural symbolism with potatoes (Dutch), noodles (Chinese), and seafood (Local Belitung). The use of simpor leaves as the wrapping for Mie Rebus Belitung expresses creativity and local identity in Belitung. Mie Rebus Belitung is also a symbol of communication with values that will be conveyed to future generations, either as a standalone dish or packaged in ritual processes such as “makan bedulang” (ritual feasting). The conclusion of this research is that Mie Rebus Belitung is a culinary dish whose history is connected to the arrival of Chinese and Dutch residents in Belitung. The distinctive feature of this dish is the use of simpor leaves as its wrapper. By combining elements from these three cultures, Mie Rebus Belitung becomes a symbol of identity and the cultural richness of Belitung.

Abstract

Kebijakan pemerintah kerap mengutamakan transformasi infrastruktur dan pengembangan komersial, seringkali mengabaikan konservasi integritas budaya dan historis pada bangunan bersejarah yang berujung pada degradasi atau eliminasi elemen penting dari warisan budaya. Selain itu, masyarakat urban Jakarta menunjukkan disonansi kultural terhadap warisan sejarah, dengan adanya pergeseran preferensi yang signifikan menuju kegiatan komersial dan rekreasi mengakibatkan penurunan kunjungan ke museum dan situs bersejarah. Hal ini terlihat jelas di area bersejarah Kota Tua Jakarta. Penggunaan media sosial seringkali lebih terfokus pada penciptaan citra konsumen yang menarik daripada memperdalam pemahaman dan penghargaan terhadap nilai sejarah dan budaya Kota Tua. Penelitian ini akan berupa tinjauan integratif menggunakan komodifikasi industri budaya sebagai kerangka analisis utama. Konsep gentrifikasi dan heritagisasi digunakan untuk mengeksplorasi proses komodifikasi industri budaya di Kota Tua. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa gentrifikasi dan heritagisasi di Kota Tua telah secara signifikan mengubah aspek sosial dan ekonomi dengan mengkonversi nilai budaya dan historis menjadi nilai ekonomi semata. Gentrifikasi mengkomodifikasi nilai historis menjadi atraksi wisata yang tidak sepenuhnya mewakili sejarah aslinya, sementara heritagisasi mengubah warisan budaya lokal yang autentik menjadi objek konsumsi. Pendekatan ini mengubah makna asli dari warisan budaya, menghapus identitas dan nilai intrinsiknya, serta hanya berorientasi pada keuntungan, menempatkan nilai ekonomi di atas nilai historis dan budaya.

Abstract

Bahasa Inggris menjadi bahasa internasional akibat dari geo-historis dan geo-politiknya. Dari hal itu membuat pandangan bahasa Inggris itu penting dan perlu, sekaligus mencampur-adukkan bahasa agar terlihat keren. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana sistem pendidikan mengukuhkan imperialisme dan hegemoni budaya dalam bentuk bahasa Inggris. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan landasan teori sebagai penunjang di antaranya: pedagogi kritis, hegemoni, dan imperialisme linguistik. Metode penelitian menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme kritis dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan wawancara secara semi-struktur terhadap tiga narasumber. Analisis data menggunakan teknik pengodingan terdiri dari pengodean terbuka, aksial, dan selektif. Hasil dan kesimpulannya bahwa dalam institusi pendidikan terdapat kurikulum, dominasi politik, budaya, ekonomi, ideologi, relasi sosial, dan metode pengajaran yang mengukuhkan imperialisme bahasa Inggris. Didukung dengan hegemoni dari kepemimpinan intelektual dan moral, serta ketidaksetaraan struktural dan budaya. Pandangan narasumber terhadap bahasa Inggris juga dipengaruhi oleh keadaan dan kesadaran sosial.
