Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of school principals in integrating technology into teaching and learning, the challenges encountered in the process, and the competencies required for principals to lead digital transformation. A qualitative method with a case study approach was employed in several schools in Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with principals, teachers, and students, as well as document analysis related to school technology policies. The findings indicate that principals with a clear vision and adequate technological competence are able to foster the successful integration of technology in instruction. Key challenges include teachers’ resistance to change, limited resources and infrastructure, and the lack of ongoing professional development for teachers. Principals who address these barriers by providing sufficient support, continuous training, and cultivating a culture of innovation can accelerate schools’ digital transformation. Moreover, principals’ technological competencies play an important role in motivating and facilitating teachers to integrate technology. The study offers recommendations for principals to adopt transformational leadership and to place greater emphasis on teacher professional development and the enhancement of technological infrastructure. It is hoped that this research provides insights for education policymakers and school leaders to strengthen technology implementation in schools.

Abstract

The integration of technology into Islamic education is crucial for meeting the evolving needs of students in the digital age, aiming to enhance both academic and moral development while preserving Islamic values. However, several challenges hinder this integration, including inadequate infrastructure, limited teacher training, and resistance to new teaching methods. This study explores these challenges and identifies opportunities for integrating technology into the curriculum of Islamic Elementary Schools (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah) and Kindergartens (TK) in Indonesia. A systematic review following the PRISMA framework was conducted, analyzing nine articles out of 25,570. The study identified key barriers, such as limited access to digital devices and the internet, inadequate digital competency among teachers, and resistance to changes in traditional pedagogical methods. Despite these challenges, the study highlights opportunities to enhance student engagement and foster critical thinking through the use of interactive technologies, such as multimedia and AI. These technologies can bridge the gap between traditional Islamic values and modern educational practices. This study demonstrates the importance of continuous professional development for teachers, investment in digital infrastructure, and curriculum reform that integrates Islamic teachings with modern technology. A balanced approach is crucial to ensure the integrity of Islamic education while simultaneously harnessing the benefits of technological advancements. Future research should focus on developing strategies to address these challenges and maximize the potential of technology in Islamic teaching, ultimately improving student outcomes and engagement.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the development of the Pramuka (Scouting) and Paskibra (Flag Hoisting Troop) programs at Pondok Pesantren Darunnajah through the lens of three key management functions: planning, organizing, and controlling. These functions are considered foundational pillars in managing character and leadership education programs within the Islamic boarding school environment. The research employed a qualitative case study approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of extracurricular activities conducted in the pesantren. The findings reveal that the planning function was implemented systematically, with clearly defined objectives and participatory forums such as the Musyawarah Dewan Ambalan for designing annual work plans. The organizing function was reflected in a well-structured organizational hierarchy, clear division of roles and responsibilities, and the strategic assignment of qualified mentors and trainers. The controlling function combined direct supervision through regular on-site inspections and indirect supervision through accountability reports and annual evaluation forums. Additionally, student participation in the Pramuka program was integrated into the national education data system (Dapodik), reinforcing accountability and motivation. The implications of this study suggest that consistent application of management functions significantly enhances the effectiveness of extracurricular programs in shaping students' character and leadership. This model of educational program management can serve as a reference for other Islamic educational institutions seeking to implement structured, sustainable, and character-oriented extracurricular initiatives.
