Abstract

Ant-plant (Myrmecodia pendans) is a unique plant which is widely used in Central Kalimantan and contains antioxidant flavonoids and tannin. The use of herbs as organic materials may produce good performance and carcass of chicken. The experiment used 40 Ross strain day old chicks which were randomly divided into 5 treatments and 4 replicates. The treatments were T0 (basal diet as a control), T1 (basal diet+0.1% ant-plant), T2 (basal diet+0.2% ant-plant), T3 (basal diet+0.3% ant-plant) and T4 (basal diet+0.4% ant-plant). Data were collected during 35 days to obtain feed intake, body weight gain, feed conversion, final body weight, mortality, carcass percentage and performance index. The data were analyzed for variances based on a Completely Randomized Design and continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test for differences. The result showed no significant effect of treatments on the performances, but T1 treatment (containing 0.1% ant-plant) showed good tendency to gain body weight, final body weight, carcass percentage and performance index respectively 0.51%; 0.44%; 0.15%; and 3.09% higher than T0 (control). It also showed good feed efficiency with feed conversion of value 2.43% lower than control. In conlusion, ant-plant as feed additive until 0.4% in broiler diet had no effect to improve broiler performances.Key Words: Broiler, Ant-Plant (Myrmecodia pendans), Feed Additive, Performance

Abstract

The purpose of this activity was to develop small industries of animal products at transmigration sites bywomen’s empowerment. The rural women could improve not only the animal products such as meats, eggs, seedsof duck and chicken, but also local and regional income. In addition to improving the ability of rural women inbusiness by utilizing commodity Alabio and chicken as a superior product. When animal products processinginto food products, it could provide high economic value and benefits up to 100%. This Community Service wascarried out for 8 months from March to October 2012 in UPT Pulau Malan Katingan. The methods consistedof 1) Socialization and counseling to educate the partner group (women farmers group) about Alabio Ducksand Native Chicken farming, accompanied by the demplot of both animal, 2) Training and demonstration ofanimal products such as egg shredded (egg abon), cracker scrabbed and organic manure, and3) Evaluation andmonitoring. Establishment of women farmers group in two partner area was the first result of this activity. Theprogram activities, socialization,demonstration demplots, training and monitoring have a very good responsefrom the partners as well as being inspiration to promote and develop the potential of the group.Implementationof Alabio ducks and native chickens farming succeed to improve the productivity in terms of quantity(number oflivestock and bodyweight) and quality(body health andvitality of animals). The animal products processing suchas egg shredded (egg abon), cracker scrabbed and organic manure also create new revenue sources for the groupof partners.Keywords: Women Farmers Group, UPT PulauMalan, DucksAlabio, Native Chicken, Processed Products

Abstract

Usaha peternakan juga menghasilkan limbah yang dapat menjadi sumber pencemaran. Oleh karena itu, pengembangan usaha peternakan harus mampu meminimalkan limbah peternakan. Budidaya cacing tanah dengan media hidup kotoran ternak dan tanah gambut menjadi salah satu upaya memanfaatkan limbah peternakan. Cacing tanah memberikan banyak manfaat untuk manusia yaitu pupuk, pakan ternak, campuran bahan obat-obatan, dan bahan campuran untuk kosmetik. Tujuan penelitian adalah Untuk mengetahui pengaruh media hidup yang terdiri dari tanah gambut dan kotoran ternak terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi cacing tanah (Lumbricus rubellus). Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 4 perlakuan. Masing-masing perlakuan diulang sebanyak 5 kali. Perlakuan yang digunakan adalah P1 (100% Tanah Gambut), P2 (50% Tanah Gambut + 50% Kotoran Sapi), P3 (50% Tanah Gambut + 50% Kotoran Ayam), dan P4 (50% Tanah Gambut + 50% Kotoran Kambing). Variabel penelitian yang diamati adalah jumlah, panjang, dan bobot cacing tanah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan semua perlakuan tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata terhadap jumlah populasi cacing tanah (P>0,05). Panjang cacing tanah menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata di antara perlakuan (P<0,05). Bobot cacing tanah menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata di antara perlakuan (P<0,05). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah penggunaan berbagai jenis kotoran ternak sebagai media tambahan tanah gambut mempengaruhi pertumbuhan dann produksi cacing tanah. Hasil terbaik diperoleh pada perlakuan P1. Hal ini dikarenakan kondisi media tidak mengalami perubahan karena adanya tidak adanya penambahan kotoran ternak. Kotoran sapi memberikan hasil yang lebih baik dari pada jenis kotoran ternak lainnya sebagai media tambahan pada budidaya cacing tanah.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the quality and chemical composition of corn straw silage with the addition of various silage additives. The study used a completely randomized design consisting of 4 treatments, namely P1 (corn straw + 10% rice bran), P2 (corn straw + EM4 10%), P3 (corn straw + 10% milled corn), and P4 (corn straw + tapioca flour 10%). Parameters observed are physical quality, fermentative quality, and chemical composition of corn straw silage. The results showed that the physical qualities of all treatments gave the same results. The pH and Fleigh Scores of all treatments show no significant difference (P>0.05). The content of DM, OM, and CP from  all treatments show no significant difference (P>0.05),while the CF show a significant difference (P<0.05). From the results of this study, it is concluded that the addition of EM4 as a silage additive gave the best results on corn straw silage.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat telah dilaksanakan di Jalan Doho Kelurahan Kalampangan Kecamatan Sebangau Kota Palangka Raya, sasaran kegiatan adalah Kelompok ibu-ibu PKK Kelurahan Kalampangan Kecamatan Sebangau Kota Palangka Raya yang kesehariannnya sebagai ibu rumah tangga atau membantu suami di kebun. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah mengolah buah pepaya muda menjadi produk olahan makanan yang mempunyai nilai jual untuk membangun usaha baru bagi ibu-ibu PKK.  Tahapan kegiatan terdiri atas: 1) Sosialisasi dan Penyuluhan pembuatan abon dan keripik dari buah pepaya, 2) Pelatihan dan demontrasi pembuatan abon pepaya dan keripik pepaya, 3) pembinaan/pendampingan dan monitoring selama kegiatan berlangsung melalui tinjauan lapang maupun media telepon.  Hal yang perlu diperhatikan dalam pengolahan buah papaya adalah: 1) Ada perbedaan kematangan buah papaya muda untuk bahan untuk pembuatan abon dan keripik, 2) ketipisan irisan buah, 3) pembuatan abon memerlukan perendaman dengan air garam, pencucian, dan penirisan, 5) Pencampuran irisan bahan abon dengan tepung dilakukan bertahap, dan 6) digoreng dengan  minyak cukup banyak dan api sedang supaya tingkat kematangan seragam dan produk hasil olahan benar-benar kering merata. Kelurahan Kalampangan merupakan jalan utama provinsi yang menghubungkan Kalimantan Tengah dengan Kalimantan Selatan, memiliki akses jalan darat yang memungkinkan masyarakatnya untuk berwirausaha meningkatkan pendapatan karena letaknya yang strategis. Hal ini memberi peluang bagi warga sekitar untuk berwirausaha jajanan ringan seperti abon dan keripik pepaya. Apabila dijual segar, hasil yang didapat tidak seberapa dibandingankan apabila pepaya dijual dalam produk olahan makanan ringan siap saji yang bisa dinikmati oleh pengguna jalan.

Abstract

This study aimed to compare and to determine the difference in the relationship between the weight of the digestive tract organs with the body weight of bali cattle and limousine cattle at the same age and sex.. Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling. Data of body weight and digestive tract organs of Bali cattle and Limousin cattle were analyzed using t-test. The relationship between digestive tract organs weight and body weight correlation analysis using correlation test. The effect of digestive tract organ weight on body weight was analyzed using a simple linear regression test. The results of this study showed that body weight and digestive tract organ weights in bali cattle and limousine cattle had significant differences (P<0.05). The weight of the rumen reticulum and large intestine had a strong relationship with body weight in bali cattle (r = 0.638; r = 0.761) compared to the weight of other digestive tract organs. The weight of the rumen reticulum has a strong relationship with the body weight of limousine cattle (r = 0.684) compared to other digestive tract organs. The regression model between body weight and the weight of the rumen reticulum and large intestine in bali cattle were y = 39,962x + 124.86 (r2=0,407) and y = 64,501x +78,928 (r2=0,579). The regression model between body weight and rumen reticulum weight in Bali cattle was y = 23,152x+281,06 (r2=0,467). The two breeds of cattle have differences in body weight, the weight of the digestive tract organs, and the relationship between body weight and the weight of the digestive tract organs.

Abstract

Tampelas Village is located in Kamipang District, Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan. Most of the residents have their main livelihood as traditional fishermen. Beef cattle farming is also carried out in Tampelas Village by several members of the community in a traditional way. Farmers lack knowledge regarding the management of the health of their livestock. The capacity building training in livestock health management aims to provide farmers with knowledge, insight, and skills related to the management of the health of beef cattle. The training consists of delivering material, hands-on practice by farmers, and discussions. The material presented included prevention, identification of livestock conditions and diseases, introduction of types of medicines, and handling of sick livestock. The activity was attended by farmers, village officials and staff from the relevant Katingan Regency Goverment. Training activities to increase the capacity of livestock health management in Tampelas Village went well. Beef cattle farmers in Tampelas Village are enthusiastic and welcome the livestock health management training activities. Their insight, knowledge and skills related to livestock health management have increased.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian tepung gaplek sebagai aditif silase terhadap kualitas silase kulit pisang kepok. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 5 perlakuan, yaitu P0 (Penambahan tepung gaplek pada level 0%), P1 (Penambahan tepung gaplek pada level 5%), P2 (Penambahan tepung gaplek pada 10%), P3 (Penambahan tepung gaplek pada level 15%), dan P4 (Penambahan tepung gaplek pada level 20%). Ensilase berlangsung selama  21 hari. Setiap perlakuan diulang masing-masing sebanyak 5 kali. Parameter yang diamati adalah kualitas fisik, kualitas fermentasi, dan komposisi kimia. Hasil menunjukkan kualitas fisik silase kulit pisang kepok adalah bertekstur padat serta tidak menggumpal dan berlendir,  warna kecoklatan hingga coklat kehitaman, dengan bau asam  hingga asam kemanisan, dan keberadaan jamur dalam jumlah sedikit. Nilai pH  tidak menunjukkan  perbedaan yang sangat nyata (P>0,01). Skor Fleigh menunjukkan perbedaan yang sangat nyata (P<0,01). Kandungan bahan Kering tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang sangat nyata (P>0,01). Kandungan Protein Kasar dan Serat Kasar menunjukkan perbedaan yang sangat nyata (P<0,01). Penambahan aditif tepung gaplek pada silase kulit pisang kepok memberikan hasil terbaik pada  pada  level 20%.

Abstract

 This study aimed to determine the effect of adding banana flour with different levels on the physical-chemical quality of beef meatballs. This study used a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments, namely P0 (beef meatballs with 100% tapioca flour), P1 (beef meatballs with 95% tapioca flour and 5% banana flour), P2 (beef meatballs of 90% tapioca flour and 10% banana flour), P3 (beef meatballs with 85% tapioca flour and 15% banana flour), and P4 (beef meatballs with 80% tapioca flour and 20% banana flour). The study showed no significant differences in beef meatballs' pH, water, protein, and fat content with adding banana flour at different levels (P>0.05). The best results for beef meatballs with banana flour were obtained at 85% tapioca flour and 15% banana flour as fillers.
