Abstract

ABSTRACTMeat is an animal product that contains fat, especially saturated fat. The saturated fat contentof the meat affects the shelf life and freshness of the meat during storage. Abstract

This study was conducted to observe the effects of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) and moisture level of soakedcrude palm leaves on its chemical composition and in vitro digestibility. Level of Ca(OH)2 which used and moisture content which added for soaking process in this study were 0, 3, 6% (w/w) and 40, 50, 60% (w/w), respectively, on DM basis. This study was arranged in Complete Randomized Design using 3x3 factorial arrangements, with 3 replications. All significant results were then analysed with Duncan’s new Multiple Range Test. After treatment, oil palm leaves were placed in polyethylene plastic bag and stored for 21 days. Result showed the DM, OM, CP, CF, EE, NFE, NDF and ADF of palm leaves after treated were 37.89-59.52%, 87.83-92.96%, 8.32-9.84%, 35.91-40.63%, 5.98-7.47%, 34.66-40.06%, 64.74-75.39% and 46.56-59.32%, respectively. The IVDMD and IVOMD of palm leaves were 19.26-29.55% and 19.91-28.26%. Level of Ca(OH)2 and moisture content affected the chemical composition of palm leaves, but have no effect on its digestibility. The less effectiveness of Ca(OH)2 as a single treatment, caused by the low level of Ca(OH)2 and short time of treatment periode on palm leaves. Ca(OH)2 level of 6% and 40% moisture content was given the best results in this study. (Key words: Crude palm leaves, Ca(OH)2, Moisture content, In vitro digestibility)

Abstract

ABSTRACT Kalampangan Village is located in Sebangau Subdistrict, Palangka Raya City, constituting 80% of vegetable commodity producers for the needs of Palanagka RayaCity residents. In addition to being farmers, some of the Kalampangan residents also have raising cattle. The total area of Kalampangan village is 46,25 m2 (5.000 hectares), consisting of 5 neighborhoods and 27 neighboring neighborhoods with a population of 3,183 inhabitants, consisting of 1,559 male and 1,558 female. The people in Kalampangan are mainly engaged in vegetables gardening, with planting areafor vegetables reaching 400 hectares and harvested area of around 380 hectares. In addition in their agricultural activities, residents in Kalampangan also raise cattle. Thus make Kalampangan as one of the suppliers of beef in Palangka Raya City. This community service activity aimed to help solve farmers’ problems by turning cow dung into compost with simple technology in a composthouse. This activity is carried out in several stages. First stage of this activity was provide counseling for farmers about the dangers of piles of cowdung around the environment of cattle pen and the use of it into compost that can be a business opportunity for farmers. Abstract

This study was conducted to obtain the effects of taro corm meal addition level on quality of elephant grass silage. There were four levels of taro corm meal (DM basis) i.e. 0% (control), 5% (P1), 10% (P2), and 15% (P3) (w/w). Each treatments consisted of 5 replications. Silage were placed in plastic bags as silo. This study was designed in Completely Randomized Design. The observation conducted to physical quality and chemical composition of silage. The physical quality of silage were color, odor, texture, and growth of fungi. Chemical composition of silage consisted of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), crude fiber (CF), extract ether (EE), and Nitrogen Free Extract (NFE). The study showed that silage from P0, P1, P2, and P3 had brownish green color, acid odor, non-sticky texture, and no fungus found. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the quality of taro stems and leaves silage with the addition of various silage additives. The study used a Completely Randomized Design consisting of 4 treatments namely P1 (5% (w/w) Rice bran), P2 (5% (v/w) Effective Microorganism-4), P3 (5% (w/w) Palm sugar) , and P4 (5% (w/w) Cassava flour) which added based on dry matter. Each treatment used 7 repetitions. The observation parameters in this study were physical quality and chemical quality of silage. Physical quality observations data are described. Chemical quality data were analyzed by analysis of variance. If there were differences among treatments, then further tests are done using Duncan's Multiple Range Test. Physical observation of the silage from the four treatments showed an acidic odor, a brownish-green color, a soft texture, and no fungus. Abstract

ABSTRACKThe research objective was to determine the properties of physical and mechanics of mousepurun cement board on various hardeners. The cement board was processed with a size of 30 cmx 30 cm x 2 cm, a ratio of 3: 1, a density of 2 g / cm2, purified water content of 15%, hardenerCa(OH)2, CaCl2, MgCl2 with a concentration of 2%. Before making the cement board thehydration temperature test is carried out, then the resulting board is tested for the physicalproperties of the mechanics. And the grave test for 3 months. Data averaged and SD thentabulated and written in graphical form. The results of the study were hydration temperature:31.38-33.50oC, inhibiting factors: 6.94-10.19%, board water content: 13.55% - 15.77%; density:1.07-1.16 g / cm2; MoR: 22.96 - 30.31 kg / cm2, Compressive strength: 0.84 - 3.34%.Conclusion: Mouse purun can be processed into cement board. The good nature of the cementboard is to treat CaCl2 2% hardener.Keywords: Purun, cement board, hardener, hydration and MoR

Abstract

Dayak tribe in  Central Kalimantan Province has long time ago applied the local wisdom of healthy life and environmental friendly by consuming more local vegetables that grow wild. The research was conducted from July to September 2018, by conducting survey observations and interviewing respondents in Kapuas district, Pulang Pisau district, Katingan district, Gunung Mas district, and Palangka Raya city. There are a total of 14 species found from swamp areas, namely Singkah enyuh (Cocos nucifera), Singkah undus (Elaeis guineensis), Singkah hambie (Metroxylon sagu), singkah uwei (Calamus sp), Taya (Nauclea sp), Ujau (Bambusa sp), Bajei (Diplazium esculentum), Bakung (Crinum asiaticum), Kalakai (Stenochlaena palustris), Kujang (Colocasia esculenta), Uru mahamen (Neptunia olearecea), Pucuk teratai (Nymphae sp), Genjer (Limnocharis flava), dan Kangkung danum (Ipomoea aquatica). The benefits of local vegetables aside from being a food source that has the potential as a drug, pesticides, bioethanol and various other industrial materials. The majority of respondents aged over 40 years prefer vegetables (local) and food types were soup, while middle age (16-40 years) and young (under 16 years) can adapt to vegetables from outside and a new menu from outside Kalimantan. Factors for choosing the types of vegetables to be consumed are more influenced by taste reasons (54-86%), followed by habits (32-47%) and benefits for health (39-40%).

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the effect of adding local taro flour at different levels on the chemical and organoleptik properties of buffalo meatballs. This study used a Completely Randomized Design with 5 treatments and 4 replications for each treatment i.e. P0 (100% tapioca flour), P1 (87,5% tapioca flour and 12,5% taro flour), P2 (75% tapioca flour and 25% taro flour), P3 (62,5% tapioca flour and 37,5% taro flour), and P4 (50% tapioca flour and 50% taro flour). Chemical properties of buffalo meatballs were analyzed with variance analysis and further results were evaluated by Tukey Test. Organoleptic properties of buffalo meatballs were analyzed non parametrically by Friedman Test. The difference percentage of taro flour showed a significant different on dry matter and protein content of buffalo meatballs (P<0.05). However, it showed a non significant difference on fat content  of buffalo meatballs (P>0.05). The difference percentage of taro flour also showed a non significant difference on organoleptic properties of buffalo meatballs (P>0.05). The best of dry matter, protein, and fat content were obtained in P0 and P2  at 30.51%; 9.08%; and 1.13%, respectively. Color, taste, and flavor of meatballs were preferred by panelists in P0. Texture and elasticity of meatballs were preferred by panelists in P1.

Abstract

Usaha peternakan juga menghasilkan limbah yang dapat menjadi sumber pencemaran. Oleh karena itu, pengembangan usaha peternakan harus mampu meminimalkan limbah peternakan. Budidaya cacing tanah dengan media hidup kotoran ternak dan tanah gambut menjadi salah satu upaya memanfaatkan limbah peternakan. Cacing tanah memberikan banyak manfaat untuk manusia yaitu pupuk, pakan ternak, campuran bahan obat-obatan, dan bahan campuran untuk kosmetik. Tujuan penelitian adalah Untuk mengetahui pengaruh media hidup yang terdiri dari tanah gambut dan kotoran ternak terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi cacing tanah (Lumbricus rubellus). Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 4 perlakuan. Masing-masing perlakuan diulang sebanyak 5 kali. Perlakuan yang digunakan adalah P1 (100% Tanah Gambut), P2 (50% Tanah Gambut + 50% Kotoran Sapi), P3 (50% Tanah Gambut + 50% Kotoran Ayam), dan P4 (50% Tanah Gambut + 50% Kotoran Kambing). Variabel penelitian yang diamati adalah jumlah, panjang, dan bobot cacing tanah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan semua perlakuan tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata terhadap jumlah populasi cacing tanah (P>0,05). Panjang cacing tanah menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata di antara perlakuan (P<0,05). Bobot cacing tanah menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata di antara perlakuan (P<0,05). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah penggunaan berbagai jenis kotoran ternak sebagai media tambahan tanah gambut mempengaruhi pertumbuhan dann produksi cacing tanah. Hasil terbaik diperoleh pada perlakuan P1. Hal ini dikarenakan kondisi media tidak mengalami perubahan karena adanya tidak adanya penambahan kotoran ternak. Kotoran sapi memberikan hasil yang lebih baik dari pada jenis kotoran ternak lainnya sebagai media tambahan pada budidaya cacing tanah.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the quality and chemical composition of corn straw silage with the addition of various silage additives. The study used a completely randomized design consisting of 4 treatments, namely P1 (corn straw + 10% rice bran), P2 (corn straw + EM4 10%), P3 (corn straw + 10% milled corn), and P4 (corn straw + tapioca flour 10%). Parameters observed are physical quality, fermentative quality, and chemical composition of corn straw silage. The results showed that the physical qualities of all treatments gave the same results. The pH and Fleigh Scores of all treatments show no significant difference (P>0.05). The content of DM, OM, and CP from  all treatments show no significant difference (P>0.05),while the CF show a significant difference (P<0.05). From the results of this study, it is concluded that the addition of EM4 as a silage additive gave the best results on corn straw silage.
