Abstract

Abstrak            Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menilai kualitas kegiatan belajar mengajar virtual di universitas selama pandemi COVID-19. Secara spesifik, ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jenis perangkat pendukung TIK yang digunakan mahasiswa, jenis jaringan yang mereka gunakan, kualitas koneksi internet yang mereka miliki, persepsi mereka tentang kualitas kegiatan belajar mengajar virtual.  Penelitian ini juga mempelajari pengaruh perbedaan penggunaan perangkat TIK dan kualitas koneksi internet terhadap kualitas pembelajaran virtual. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan analisis statistik deskriptif dan inferensial.  Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui kuesioner virtual yang diisi oleh 71 responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran virtual akan efektif jika mereka menggunakan desktop / laptop dan smartphone secara bersamaan saat melakukan aktivitas pembelajaran virtual. Akibat lainnya adalah semakin baik kualitas koneksi internet yang mereka miliki maka semakin efektif pula kegiatan belajar virtual mereka. Berdasarkan persepsi mereka, baik pengajaran maupun pembelajaran virtual berjalan dengan baik.  Kata kunci—kualitas pembelajaran, pembelajaran virtual, pembelajaran daring  Abstract            This study was conducted to assess the quality of the virtual teaching and learning activities at a college during pandemic COVID-19 as perceived by its students.  Specifically, it aimed to describe the types of ICT supporting devices students used, types of the network they used, quality of internet connection they had, and their perceptions on the quality of virtual teaching and learning activities.  It also studied the effect of different use of ICT devices and internet connection quality toward virtual learning quality.  This was a quantitative study using descriptive and inferential statistical analyses.  The data were gathered through an online questionnaire filled by 71 respondents.  The results showed that virtual learning would be effective if they used both desktops/laptops and smartphones altogether when doing virtual learning activities.  Another result was the better the quality of the internet connection they had; their virtual learning activities were more effective.  Based on their perceptions, the virtual teaching and learning activities were well conducted.  Keywords—learning quality, virtual learning, online learning

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan komponen pendukung pembelajaran online dan kemampuan siswa belajar online. Penelitian menganalisis frekuensi tiga indikator utama komponen pendukung pembelajaran online, yaitu kualitas koneksi internet, kemampuan menggunakan teknologi (aplikasi dan perangkat), fasilitas untuk mendukung pembelajaran online, dan kemampuan siswa untuk belajar online. Selain itu, ini juga menkorelasikan antara komponen pendukung pembelajaran online dengan kemampuan siswa untuk belajar online. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan korelatif. Data dianalisis untuk menemukan skor rata-rata dan koefisien korelasi Spearman. Empat puluh lima responden dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik convenience sampling karena adanya pembatasan tatap muka di masa pandemi COVID-19. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah angket 25 item yang dibuat oleh peneliti. Temuan penelitian ini adalah: (a) tingkat fasilitas untuk mendukung pembelajaran online; (b) tingkat kemampuan menggunakan teknologi; dan (c) tingkat kualitas koneksi internet; (d) tingkat kemampuan siswa untuk belajar online;dan (e) terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara fasilitas penunjang pembelajaran online dan kemampuan menggunakan teknologi dengan kemampuan siswa belajar online. Kata kunci—komponen pendukung pembelajaran online, fasilitas belajar online, kemampuan menggunakan teknologi, kualitas koneksi internet, kemampuan siswa belajar online

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the perception of student satisfaction with the use of two learning models, namely blended learning before the COVID-19 pandemic and online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, it aimed to draw conclusions on differences in student satisfaction levels when using blended learning and online learning, which includes the learning process, learning assessment, learning load, lecturer and student discipline, and social interaction among lecturers and students, or social interaction among students and students. It was quantitative research using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The data collection was conducted through an online questionnaire filled out by 140 respondents. The results showed that students felt more satisfied with the blended learning model than the online learning model. Students showed more satisfaction in the learning process, student discipline, social interaction among lecturers and students, or social interaction among students and students

Abstract

This study was conducted to prove the practicality of the conceptual foundation of language anxiety observed in an English classroom. It aimed to explore the types of anxiety students experience when doing their speaking activities. Besides, it sought to explore which things cause students to feel the most anxious about speaking English. It was conducted using a qualitative phenomenological approach to describe the lived experiences of the students. The subject of research was students at a private vocational senior high school in North Minahasa, North Sulawesi. The samples consisting of five respondents were taken using a purposeful snowball sampling technique and some private interviews were conducted to take the data. The data were analyzed using three steps: data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the students experienced the fear of being laughed at by their peers when making mistakes, the fear of not making enough preparation to speak, the fear of not knowing words to use, the fear of lacking understanding of lessons explained in English, and the fear of being scolded by an English teacher due to mispronunciation. Finally, most of what causes them to experience language anxiety has to do with the fear of negative evaluation from other people.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the correlation between playing-game addiction and students’ learning attitudes at a public senior high school, specifically to see if playing games excessively on gadgets affects students’ learning attitudes. This study used a quantitative design that was descriptive and correlative. The instruments used were adapted from two questionnaires developed by Yong (2006) and Patricia (2017). There were 120 students in grades XI and XII in natural science and Social Science at one Public High School enrolled in the second semester of the school year 2021-2022 who were the respondents to this study. The findings showed that the level of game addiction was low, with a mean score of 2.43. Furthermore, the level of students’ learning attitudes was high, with a mean score of 3.82. Next, it was found that there is a significant difference between males and females in game addiction. The mean score of Male students was 2.91 and that of female students was 2.08, which are categorized as neutral, and male students have a higher level of addiction to playing games than female students. It was found that there is a difference between male and female students in their learning attitudes, where the mean of female students was 3.96 higher than male students' 3.63, which was categorized as highly positive. Finally, it was found that there is a significant correlation between students’ game addiction and their learning attitude as p = 0.05 ? 0.05; in other words, the p-value was equal to ? = 0.05. This clearly showed that the more addicted the students are to playing games, the lower their attitude toward learning.

Abstract

The background of this study is the need to investigate how a foreign language young learner in Indonesian context acquires English using internet technology media. Specifically, it studied how an Indonesian child learns to speak English through the activities of watching English videos on YouTube and how the environment plays its roles in influencing the child’s success of learning English through the media. This research used the qualitative case study approach, and the data were gathered through interviews and observations. The main result found in the study is that watching English videos through YouTube is effective in helping the child acquire English.

Abstract

This study aimed to study the motivations of incoming students who decided to take the English Education Major offered by the Faculty of Education at a private university. It also sought to find out what career objectives the students plan to achieve after finishing their studies. The results of this study expectedly could become the basis for the administrators to design suitable promotional strategies to attract more incoming students. Additionally, these could help the administrators decide on strategic plans to advance and develop the best curriculum that meets the students’ expectations. The research was conducted on English Education Major students using the qualitative approach through which the data were gathered and analyzed using qualitative sampling techniques and analyses. The findings showed that most students’ motivation to take the major is to deepen their English language knowledge and develop their English skills, and some of them are truly motivated to be English teachers in the future. In terms of career objectives to achieve in the near future, most of them plan to be English teachers. Interestingly, some of them also plan for alternative careers like, for example, becoming English translators or tourist guides if they do not have the chance to be English teachers later.

Abstract

Latar belakang dilakukannya penelitian ini ialah kebutuhan adanya tes berkualitas baik yang dapat digunakan untuk mengukur capaian pembelajaran mahasiswa di akhir semester. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah mengembangkan sebuah tes atau ujian akhir semester di Mata Kuliah Pengukuran dan Evaluasi Pendidikan di sebuah universitas swasta. Tes tersebut dikembangkan melalui beberapa tahapan pengembangan mulai dari penentuan spesifikasi tes hingga analisis butir soal. Setelah penulisan butir soal dilakukan, tes ini kemudian diujicobakan kepada 75 orang mahasiswa yang sedang mengambil mata kuliah yang bersangkutan. Hasil analisis menemukan bahwa semua butir soal memenuhi syarat untuk tingkat kesulitan butir soal. Namun dalam aspek daya pembeda butir, sebanyak 10 butir soal memerlukan revisi karena belum memenuhi syarat daya pembeda yang cukup. Temuan akhir menunjukkan bahwa terdapat sebanyak 27 butir soal yang telah memenuhi syarat karakteristik butir soal yang berkualitas. The background of this research was the need for a good-quality test that could be used to measure student learning outcomes at the end of the semester. The purpose of this study was to develop a test or end-of-semester exam in the Educational Measurement and Evaluation Course at a private university. The test was developed through several stages of development ranging from determining the test specifications to analyzing the question items. After writing the question items, this test was then tested on 75 students who were taking the course concerned. The results of the analysis found that all question items met the requirements for acceptable difficulty levels. However, in the aspect of item discrimination power, as many as 10 questions require revision because they do not meet the requirements for sufficient acceptable discrimination power levels. The final findings show that there are as many as 27 question items that have met the requirements of quality question items.
