Abstract

ABSTRACT Hyperemesis gravidarum is a condition of excessive nausea and vomiting that often occurs in the first trimester of pregnancy, with prevalence in Indonesia ranging from 1 to 3%. This condition can lead to impaired fluid and electrolyte status, weight loss, as well as psychological impacts such as stress and anxiety. Non-pharmacological treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum can be done by performing acupressure therapy. The purpose of this case study was to determine the effectiveness of acupressure therapy at the PC6 point in reducing nausea and vomiting in pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum. This scientific paper uses a case study design on two pregnant women who experienced severe nausea and vomiting, with a moderate category nausea score based on the Pregnancy Unique Quantification of Emesis/Nausea (PUQE). Acupressure intervention was carried out twice a day with a duration of 10-15 minutes for three days. The results showed a decrease in nausea and vomiting scores in both subjects. On the first day, the nausea score of both patients was in the moderate category, but after the intervention there was a gradual decrease in the score until it reached the mild category on the third day. This proves that acupressure therapy at the PC6 point is effective in reducing complaints of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum. In conclusion, acupressure therapy is a safe and effective non-pharmacological alternative to reduce symptoms of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women, and can be used as a nursing intervention option that supports improving the quality of life of pregnant women. Keywords: Acupressure, Hyperemesis Gravidarum, Pregnant Women.

Abstract

Community knowledge in health empowerment strategies is a crucial element for the success of health programmes. However, many factors influence the level of public knowledge about a programme. This study aims to identify the relationship between demographic factors such as gender, age, education, and occupation, and the level of community knowledge about the Desa SIAGA programme as a community empowerment approach to improve maternal and neonatal health. This research employs a descriptive correlational design with a quantitative survey method. The study involved 107 respondents from Desa Jati, Sukoharjo District, using a simple random sampling technique. The data was collected through a questionnaire survey containing questions to explore the public's knowledge about the SIAGA Village program to improve maternal and neonatal health. The collected data was then analyzed using bivariate analysis and tested using the Pearson Product Moment. The results indicate that the majority of respondents have sufficient knowledge about the Desa SIAGA programme. Age and gender were found to have a significant relationship with knowledge level, with older age and female gender being associated with better knowledge. In contrast, no significant relationship was found between education level and occupation with the level of knowledge about the Desa SIAGA programme. These findings highlight the importance of more intensive outreach and community-based approaches to improve public understanding of the Desa SIAGA programme, particularly among older age groups and men.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is very important for infant health, but its coverage in Indonesia is still low. One of the causes is the lack of knowledge of mothers about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding. This study aims to describe the level of knowledge of mothers about exclusive breastfeeding in the Kartasura Health Center Working Area and analyze the factors that influence it. This method uses a quantitative descriptive research design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 51 mothers with babies aged 0-24 months, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed univariately. The results showed that 51% of respondents had sufficient knowledge, 31.4% low, and 17.6% good. Contributing factors include age, education, occupation, number of children, and age of the last child. Higher education is associated with better knowledge. This conclusion shows that there are still many mothers with low levels of knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding, so more intensive health education and interventions are needed. Socialization and counseling by health workers are expected to increase the success of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Post cesarean section procedures can cause pain sensations. Pain management involves a combination of self-care interventions and non-pharmacological foot massage therapy, which is safe and easy to administer. To improve circulation, reduce pain, relax muscles, and provide comfort to the patient. Foot massage therapy includes techniques such as effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (tapping), friction (rubbing), and vibration (vibrating).  In the case study of foot massage for post-cesarean section mothers, data was collected through direct observation and measurement of pain intensity using a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) questionnaire. The assessment was conducted through interviews and observation of the patient's condition before and after foot massage therapy. Data analysis was performed descriptively by comparing pain scores before and after foot massage intervention to see changes in pain intensity experienced by patients. The results of the foot massage on the respondents over two consecutive days showed a decrease in pain levels from a score of 6 (moderate pain) to a score of 2 (mild pain). The application of foot massage therapy can help reduce pain experienced by post-cesarean section mothers.

Abstract

Caesarean section (CS) is an obstetric procedure that is increasingly common in Indonesia and is often influenced by the presence of comorbidities in pregnant women. Understanding the factors that cause CS based on the Five P concept (Power, Passage, Passenger, Position, and Psyche) is important for improving the quality of maternity nursing care. To determine the characteristics of comorbidities in mothers giving birth with indications for CS at Hidayah Boyolali General Hospital based on the Five P concept. This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a retrospective approach. A sample of 118 mothers who gave birth by CS was taken using total sampling from medical records for the period July 2024–September 2025. Data was collected by recording the reasons why patients underwent CS, which can be viewed in the Hospital Management System. Data were analysed descriptively and quantitatively to display the frequency distribution of each causative factor. The most common concomitant factor was Power (43.2%), followed by Passage (27.1%), Psyche (12.7%), Passenger (11.1%), and Position (5.9%). Most mothers were aged 21–30 years and had full-term pregnancies (37–40 weeks). The Power factor was the dominant cause of CS, highlighting the importance of strengthening contraction monitoring, physical readiness, and psychological support. The application of a holistic approach in maternity nursing is expected to reduce the rate of medically unindicated CS.

Abstract

Childbirth is an experience that has physical, social, and psychological impacts. One of the psychological changes that occur in pregnant women is the emergence of anxiety. The purpose of this case study is to explain the effect of Al-Qur'an murottal therapy in reducing anxiety levels in mothers giving birth. This study used a quasi-experimental method. The research instrument used the Perinatal Anxiety Screening Scale (PASS) questionnaire to evaluate the pre-test and post-test given intervention. The PASS questionnaire has been proven to be valid (validity value 0,4–0,7) and has very good reliability with Cronbach's Alpha 0,98. The data was analyzed descriptively by comparing anxiety scores before and after therapy and then calculating the percentage reduction in anxiety. The results of the PASS scale before the Al-Qur'an murottal therapy at the first meeting with a score of 35 (severe anxiety), while after the Al-Qur'an murottal therapy at the first meeting for 30 minutes obtained a PASS score of 29 (moderate anxiety). At the second meeting the results of the PASS before the Al-Qur'an murottal therapy with a score of 28 (moderate anxiety), while after the Al-Qur'an murottal therapy with a PASS score of 18 (moderate anxiety). This study provides information on how to reduce non-pharmacological anxiety levels with Al-Quran murottal therapy with Surah Ar-Rahman.

Abstract

Anemia remains one of the most significant global nutritional problems, particularly affecting adolescent girls. In Indonesia, the government has implemented a preventive strategy through the Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFAS) program, commonly known as tablet tambah darah (TTD). However, the success of this program relies heavily on adolescents’ adherence to regular consumption. Knowledge and attitude are recognized as key psychological determinants influencing compliance with iron supplementation. This study aimed to examine the correlation between knowledge and attitude with compliance in iron tablet consumption among adolescent girls at SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo. A descriptive correlational design with a quantitative approach was employed, involving 100 female students from grade XI selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire measuring knowledge, attitude, and compliance variables. The instrument demonstrated good validity with Pearson Product Moment correlation coefficients ranging from 0.54 to 0.88 and acceptable reliability with a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.79. Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test at a significance level of p < 0.05. The majority of respondents had good knowledge (59%), positive attitudes (73%), and high compliance (44%) toward TTD consumption. The Chi-Square test showed a significant association between knowledge and compliance (p = 0.010), as well as between attitude and compliance (p = 0.010). The study concludes that knowledge acts as a primary cognitive factor influencing adolescents’ compliance with iron tablet intake, while attitude serves as a reinforcing element that strengthens behavioral intention and consistency.
