Abstract

Learning a language means learning culture. Language and culture are two things that cannot be separated. Culture contains many components, including regional folklore. Folklore needs to be known not only by local communities but also at national and international levels. As an institution that produces professional output, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Pattimura University needs to contribute to future development. One of the activities that can be carried out is by providing assistance in making videos of the Batu Badaong folklore in German. This activity involved 4 foreign students, namely from Khong Kaen University, Thailand and 7 students from the German language education study program at Pattimura University, Ambon. The methods used in this activity are varied, namely lectures, discussions and simulations. The result of this activity is a short film about Batu Badaong in German which can be seen at https://youtu.be/OfGDZw1jNJQ.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method in teaching Indonesian to 4th-grade students at SD 64 Ambon. The PBL approach emphasizes direct student engagement in solving real-world problems to enhance comprehension of the subject matter. By connecting theory with practical, everyday contexts, students can better understand lessons and develop critical thinking and collaborative skills. This research utilizes a pretest-posttest experimental design on a single group. Measurements were conducted before and after the implementation of PBL to assess changes in students' comprehension and engagement. The results reveal that PBL had a significant positive impact on learning outcomes, with posttest scores showing improvement over pretest scores. Additionally, active student engagement increased, as evidenced by their participation in questioning, discussion, and problem-solving during lessons. Thus, the implementation of PBL is not only effective in improving learning outcomes but also in fostering collaboration and critical thinking skills among elementary school students. This method presents an interactive and relevant alternative for teaching Indonesian language skills to young learners.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the assessment system for German language learning based on the Merdeka Curriculum in the West Seram and Central Maluku regions. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate a contradiction where 65% of teachers perceive the current assessment quality as inadequate, yet the same percentage also believe it meets educational needs, highlighting a disparity between perception and practice. The study recommends adopting a more comprehensive, competency-based assessment model to better align with the Merdeka Curriculum. The current assessments are predominantly focused on cognitive aspects, lacking integration of speaking and listening skills. This study identifies challenges in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum, including limited resources and varying teacher understanding. Proposed recommendations include the adoption of a more comprehensive competency-based assessment system, authentic assessments, performance rubrics, and portfolios to document student progress. It is hoped that the results of this research will enhance the quality of German language learning and effectively support the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve students’ competence in German grammar and vocabulary at the A2.2 level through the implementation of Rollenkarten (role cards). This learning method is designed to create a more interactive, contextual, and engaging learning environment, enabling students to apply grammar and vocabulary functionally in real-life situations. The activity applied a descriptive qualitative approach involving planning, implementation, data collection, and analysis. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and questionnaires administered before and after the learning sessions. The results show that the use of Rollenkarten increased students’ interest, motivation, and active participation. Furthermore, the method encouraged collaboration, improved students' confidence in speaking, and enhanced their understanding of the material. In conclusion, Rollenkarten is an effective learning strategy for improving students’ German grammar and vocabulary skills, although its success depends on careful planning and the teacher’s ability to manage the classroom effectively.

Abstract

Speech production is a critical component of human communication. However, individuals with phonological disorders, such as lisping, often face barriers in social interaction due to unclear articulation. This study aims to explore how adults with lisp produce phonemic utterances and to examine the causes of such speech production disorders. The main research questions are: (1) How do adults with lisp produce phonemic speech? and (2) What factors contribute to their articulation difficulties? This study employed a qualitative descriptive method using a case study approach. Data were collected from four adult respondents aged 18 to 53 living in Ambon, Indonesia, all of whom exhibit symptoms of lisp or distorted articulation. The data collection techniques included direct observation through video recordings and structured interviews. Analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, focusing on variations in speech patterns and articulation phenomena. The findings reveal multiple types of phonemic disruptions, including segment substitution, phonetic feature distortion, syllable structure errors, and lexical pausing patterns. The causes of lisp were identified as genetic inheritance, environmental influences, and congenital conditions such as ankyloglossia (short tongue). The study contributes to the fields of psycholinguistics and speech pathology by providing insight into the diverse manifestations of articulation disorders. It also emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis, family awareness, and phonological therapy to support affected individuals. Future research should involve larger sample sizes and incorporate acoustic and quantitative analysis for broader generalization.

Abstract

Abstract

Reading is an essential language skill. While reading is often considered a passive activity, it actually involves active thought processes. In education, reading skills are mandatory. This is because it is assumed that one can acquire information, knowledge, and new experiences through reading. Through reading, people can broaden their thinking, sharpen their vocabulary, and broaden their horizons. Reading is also essential for anyone seeking to advance and improve themselves. Through reading, everyone can develop critical thinking skills. This critical thinking ability needs to be developed in high school students. Critical reading enables students not only to absorb information but also to understand, compare, and assess its accuracy and relevance. Analytical reading, on the other hand, helps students identify the structure of arguments, relationships between ideas, and the implicit meanings within a reading passage. These two skills are closely related to improving literacy and developing critical thinking skills in students. However, based on observations and national assessment results, Indonesian students' reading literacy skills are still relatively low, particularly in the areas of critical and analytical thinking. Therefore, improving critical and analytical reading competencies for high school students will serve as a benchmark for implementing activities to improve critical and analytical reading competencies for high school students. This activity is expected to be beneficial not only in improving scores in national assessment reports but also in building a crucial foundation for a smarter, fairer, and more competitive future for Indonesian education.

Abstract

This study aims to develop audiovisual animated teaching materials using the Powtoon application for German language instruction in grade XI. The development followed the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), but was limited to the Develop stage. Initial data were obtained through a needs analysis of teachers and students at SMA Negeri 7 Ambon, which revealed a lack of engaging and interactive teaching materials in German language learning. The product developed was an educational animation video created with Powtoon, covering the topics “Sich und andere vorstellen” and “Schulsachen.” Validation results from subject matter experts and media experts indicated that the developed materials are highly feasible for use as learning media. The strength of the product lies in the integration of visual elements, text, voice narration, as well as contextual and cultural aspects of German, aligned with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum. This study is expected to provide an innovative alternative for German language learning that is more engaging, interactive, and suited to the characteristics of 21st-century students.
