Abstract

ABSTRACT: Besides visual aspect, room acoustic performance is also an important factor in determining multipurpose hall performance. Room acoustic performance can be achieved if some room acoustic objective parameters are taken into account, such as background noise level, reverberation time, and sound coverage. In order to meet these parameters, it can be done by using materials with appropriate coefficient absorbstion on floor, wall, ceiling and room geometry. Room acoustic objective parameters should be considered in design phase for optimum benefit. Room acoustic simulation on the design of multipurpose hall P1 and P2 Petra Christian University will be done by computer simulation.

Abstract

Limited proportion between built area and open space of house-lots in housing district seems to become trend in some housing. Within period of occupancy, house-owners are continuously requiring more rooms. A common solution is to transform available open space in the lot into building. Several contiguous housing in Sidoarjo Regency, comprises of low-to-medium and medium-to high housing types was studied to learn on the trend. The study concluded that definition of low-to-medium and medium-to-high class housing was a correct term here. In average, respondents had duration of occupancy of 15 to 20 years and most were undertaken housing extension. From 83 respondents out of 170 suspected houses of having insufficient open space was significantly proved that the extension leaved open space toward 0%. This means that lack of private open space is a factual trend here. When lack of open space is a trend, we may easily suspect that green open space is in similar term.Interesting phenomenon was found that apart from good level of early and prior awareness on the necessity of open space, average respondents had significantly lower early knowledge on the importance of open space especially in term of providing rainwater absorption bed. Their knowledge increased gradually currently. However, their current knowledge was still lower than their awareness. This finding is expected to be useful in planning further stage of community outreach to give informal lecture among community due to actual procedure in fixing open space inexistence, especially to further generation.

Abstract

Global warming has been increasing since last 5th years. This problem emerged because of the development of highrise building these days. In a building, air conditioning system has the largest percentage of building’s energy consumption, 55-65% of total building’s energy consumption. An efficient and economic air-conditioning system is needed to save energy and operational cost as much as possible. Life cycle cost analysis is conducted to evaluate the air conditioning system by comparing some alternatives system. The datas are retrieved from building management and some supplier, also mechanical and electrical contractors. This research is conducted by calculating the investment cost (C), operational cost (O), maintenance and replacement cost (R), and salvage value (S). Before calculating life cycle cost, all cost is converted with annual worth method. Life cycle cost evaluation is capable to save operational cost up to 34%.

Abstract

Abstract

Like other developing countries where traffic is a significant sound nuisance, traffic in Indonesian urban areas is boisterous. How this condition is regulated by the Indonesian government so that the community can live healthily and comfortably is a very crucial issue. Unfortunately, Indonesia has not had any sound environmental improvement since the regulation was enacted. Additionally, regulators and government officers who run the rule carelessly worsen the condition. This study aims to study how sound is regulated in Indonesia’s central and local governments, what types of sound or noise and levels are covered, and whether recent local regulations have been enacted to regulate sound in Indonesian cities. The study mainly uses quantitative, i.e., snowball or chain referral sampling techniques, to collect sound regulations applied in ten large and busy cities in Indonesia. Then, the qualitative stage was conducted based on the content of the rules. The data shows that the Indonesian government at both the central and regional levels does not have legal standing to regulate noise caused by the absence of noise regulation at the statutory level that can force those who violate the law to be punished. The only regulation is by the Minister of Environment, dated 1996, which is referenced nationally and adopted by most cities without or with minor modifications. This study found that (1) six of the ten cities regulate only one type of noise among various types of noise, (2) twelve of the 35 local regulations incorporate noise regulations into air pollution regulations instead of stand-alone regulations, (3) because provinces and cities adopt central regulations, the lowest noise level follows the central standard at 55 dB for settlement area without specific frequency ranges, (4) there is no straightforward procedure on how measurements to be carried out except in regulations stipulated by Yogyakarta province. There is also a fact that a standardized procedure for measuring noise is vital to be included in the regulation because unskilled government officials collected invalid data in dealing with a noise complaint leading to an unresolved situation.

Abstract

Abstract

Eco-friendly architecture (EFA) is a design approach to produce healthy and comfortable buildings. In the pandemic era and in years to come when working from home is a trend, a healthy and comfortable home is crucial because people spend their time at home. Thermal comfort is considered the most significant comfort factor for building occupants, especially at home. This paper reports a study on the relationship between thermal comfort, individual performance, and productivity while working at home. Data was collected qualitatively through observation, heat transfer calculation, and in-depth interviews. This study concludes that a thermally comfortable house that follows the EFA concept is an aspect that influences performance and productivity. However, thermal comfort is not the only aspect related to comfort. Habits and adaptation of occupants to certain conditions also affect comfort, which leads to good performance and productivity. Occupants feel comfortable doing office and household tasks at home due to their adaptation to the surrounding thermal comfort based on their preferences.
