Abstract

Abstract

This paper aims to explore how sound impacts in providing an auditory experience in open space through a soundscape approach with case studies of open space or the court of the Great Mosque of Yogyakarta. This case can be an example of implementing a strategy to create peace of space in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city. On the other hand soundscaping techniques become the needs of every city to do, and in particular there must be a spatial pattern that unites and adapts to each other between buildings, open spaces, vegetation, water elements and activities, so that the sustainability of a comfortable and calm space will last long. Abstract

Electricity consumption in the household sector is classified into two categories based on the economic class of the household. The first category is the low class, in which the greatest electricity consumption (approximately 20.00%) is used for lighting. The second category is the medium and high class, in which the greatest electricity consumption (approximately 20.00-32.00%) occurs for powering the air conditioning (AC) system. To date, vertical type housing can be commonly found in the medium class, and as of 2017, the level of occupation has reached 9.52%. This condition calls for an analysis on the energy consumption and energy efficiency of the buildings. Case found in a low-cost apartment building, also known as Rumah Susun Sederhana Sewa (Rusunawa) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is one example where an energy monitoring system is needed. This is due to the inhabitants' habit of electrical usage that is unsuitable to the Rusunawa's function, such as their inefficient use of AC and washing machines. The energy meter system measures the electrical voltage and current of electrical appliances that are attached to the system. This system utilizes a ZMPT101B-5 sensor to measure the voltage and an ACS712 sensor to measure the elctrical current. The design of the energy meter system enables one to measure the voltage and current of electrical appliances with a 4.40% margin of error. Based on the measurements obtained in this paper, the AC is the greatest source of power consumption, with an approximate value of 800 kWh.

Abstract

Like other developing countries where traffic is a significant sound nuisance, traffic in Indonesian urban areas is boisterous. How this condition is regulated by the Indonesian government so that the community can live healthily and comfortably is a very crucial issue. Unfortunately, Indonesia has not had any sound environmental improvement since the regulation was enacted. Additionally, regulators and government officers who run the rule carelessly worsen the condition. This study aims to study how sound is regulated in Indonesia’s central and local governments, what types of sound or noise and levels are covered, and whether recent local regulations have been enacted to regulate sound in Indonesian cities. The study mainly uses quantitative, i.e., snowball or chain referral sampling techniques, to collect sound regulations applied in ten large and busy cities in Indonesia. Then, the qualitative stage was conducted based on the content of the rules. The data shows that the Indonesian government at both the central and regional levels does not have legal standing to regulate noise caused by the absence of noise regulation at the statutory level that can force those who violate the law to be punished. The only regulation is by the Minister of Environment, dated 1996, which is referenced nationally and adopted by most cities without or with minor modifications. This study found that (1) six of the ten cities regulate only one type of noise among various types of noise, (2) twelve of the 35 local regulations incorporate noise regulations into air pollution regulations instead of stand-alone regulations, (3) because provinces and cities adopt central regulations, the lowest noise level follows the central standard at 55 dB for settlement area without specific frequency ranges, (4) there is no straightforward procedure on how measurements to be carried out except in regulations stipulated by Yogyakarta province. There is also a fact that a standardized procedure for measuring noise is vital to be included in the regulation because unskilled government officials collected invalid data in dealing with a noise complaint leading to an unresolved situation.

Abstract

In inpatient services, patient beds are usually limited by curtains or partitions to maintain the patient's safety. At the time of data collection, the barrier or barrier is considered to the effectiveness of the results and validation of medical device sensor data. This study aims to explain the results of the reliability testing of Bluetooth and the internet on hardware and CovWatch applications. This study is action research; comparison is used using devices (tools) with different specifications. Testing internet and Bluetooth connectivity from the CovWatch unit and applications installed on the Samsung A01 devices, Redmi Note 10 and Oppo A57, have mixed results. Hardware CovWatch and Samsung A01 are considered the best in acquiring vital sign data, while Redmi Note 10 and OPPO A57 are not good because some data cannot be obtained so that it does not appear on the monitor unit.

Abstract

Open-plan offices have become widely adopted in various industries as a workplace environment. However, this office layout type suffers from speech privacy, which can be represented by the acoustic parameter known as the Speech Transmission Index (STI). ISO 3382-3:2012 provides guidelines for calculating the acoustic parameters of a room tailored explicitly for open-plan offices. However, the existing method in ISO 3382-3:2012 requires a parallel layout of workstations to determine the STI value, which is hardly found in modern office settings. This study presents a technique to predict the ideal values of rP and rD, based on the relationship between %Alcons and the Speech Transmission Index (STI) for a specific workstation, using linear regression and in-situ measurements. The analysis of acoustic conditions in an open-plan office reveals that modified techniques can predict the acoustic quality in a modern office layout. The D2, S values indicate good acoustic quality, but the Lp, A, S,4m values do not meet the required standard. Using %Alcons equations, the study shows how to predict distraction distances and categorize workstations as 'Distracted' or 'Not distracted'. The results indicate only a small percentage of workstations allow for private communication.

Abstract

Introduction: Ship-to-shore (STS) crane operators strive for efficiency in their work, but they must take a hard look at their high-risk jobs. It is necessary to learn how to improve occupational safety and health. This study aims to investigate the problems faced by STS crane operators working in container ports and to understand the importance of fit-for-work monitoring procedures, particularly for individuals working in high-risk industries such as STS operators. Methods: This study used a qualitative approach, and data were collected through interviews and observations of STS operators and in-house clinic staff. Nine STS operators, two in-house clinic staff, and two safety, health, and environment (SHE) staff were interviewed. Results: This study found that container terminal companies emphasise two critical aspects for STS operators: productivity and occupational safety and health. STS operators face health problems, including physical and psychological problems, due to the fast-paced work system, sleep patterns, daily activities, and thoughts that are difficult to control. Employees have coping mechanisms to deal with fatigue, and stakeholders have effectively communicated the company's safety and health culture. Most stakeholders in a container terminal company want a fit-for-work monitoring system to make the business efficient and sustainable. Conclusion: The STS industry faces a significant problem with operator fatigue, which can negatively impact safety and productivity. This issue requires a comprehensive strategy, including legislation to regulate working hours and shift patterns, technology to combat fatigue, and operator education and training.
