Abstract

The rapid development of the world in the VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) era has led to changes in various sectors, including the education sector. According to the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in August 2022, Vocational High Schools contribute the highest unemployment rate of 9.42% compared to other educational levels. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the level of Transferable Skills, which refers to skills that can be transferred and consistent in continuous learning, among Vocational High School students and their fulfillment of the needs of the working industry. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative with a survey technique through a cross-sectional approach to gather information. The instruments used in this study consist of questionnaires distributed to vocational high school students in Indonesia who have undergone job training and supervisors in the industry where the students conducted their job training in various regions in Indonesia. The findings of this research indicate that, overall, the vocational high school students have a satisfactory level of Transferable Skills. However, there are still several aspects that need improvement. This research contributes significantly to understanding the level of transferable skills among vocational high school students and the needs of working industry in the VUCA era. The results of this study can serve as a basis for the development of more effective and relevant vocational education programs to prepare students to meet the demands of an increasingly complex and dynamic job market.

Abstract

In the 21st century, globalization and digital transformation have changed life patterns significantly. Digital technology is now at the center of almost all aspects of life, including the education sector in Indonesia. Technological skills and readiness to face the job market demands are critical. Vocational education, including vocational schools, aims to equip students for global market competition but continues to encounter obstacles in enhancing the quality and relevance of its programs. The proposed solution is the development of flipbook- based learning media with Augmented Reality (AR) to increase student engagement and skills in this digital era. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach, involving a population of 149 vocational school students from West Java. The research results show that using Flipbook with AR produces an N-gain score of 74.3%. With this N-gain value, the VocAR-Flip model effectively improves vocational school students' learning outcomes, especially in academic achievement and conceptual understanding. This research can contribute to developing more interactive and efficient learning technology for future education.

Abstract

Background: The fast-paced growth of the global landscape has triggered significant transformations in various sectors, including education and the workforce. As the world enters the era of Industrial Revolution 5.0, which emphasizes sustainability and human-technology collaboration, it becomes critical for vocational high school (SMK) graduates to possess job skills that align with modern industry demands. However, a persistent skills gap remains between what vocational education delivers and what industries require. Methods: This study aims to analyse the employability level of vocational high school students in meeting industry demands during the Industrial Revolution 5.0. A quantitative approach was employed using an online survey distributed to 450 vocational students and 40 industry representatives across various sectors in Indonesia. The survey instrument focused on two main job skill dimensions: problem-solving practices and planning and organizing activities. Descriptive statistical analysis (frequency distributions, means, and standard deviations) was conducted, followed by inferential analysis using a t-test to compare students' self-assessments with industry evaluations of job readiness. Results: The findings revealed that vocational students' skills are currently at a moderate level and have not yet fully met industry expectations. A statistically significant gap was found between student perceptions and industry assessments, indicating a misalignment in readiness levels. Conclusion: These results highlight a critical employability gap that must be addressed to ensure vocational graduates are better prepared for the evolving workforce. Strengthened collaboration between vocational education institutions and industry is essential. Joint efforts should focus on establishing shared competency standards, enhancing industry-based training programs, and increasing industry participation in curriculum development to improve the alignment between education outcomes and labour market needs.

Abstract

In the 21st century, globalization and digital transformation have significantly altered human life patterns. Digital technology has become central to nearly all aspects of life, including the education sector in Indonesia. Technological skills and readiness to meet the demands of the job market have become increasingly critical. Vocational education, such as vocational high schools, aims to equip students with the competencies necessary to compete in the global market. However, challenges in enhancing the quality and relevance of education remain a significant issue. In fact, according to Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the unemployment rate for vocational high school graduates reached 9.6% in 2023, the highest among all education levels, underscoring the urgent need for innovative approaches in vocational learning. One proposed solution is the development of flipbook-based learning media integrated with Augmented Reality (AR) to enhance student engagement and skills in the digital era. This study employed ADDIE (Analyse, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The results indicate that the VOCAR-FLIP model is significantly effective in improving students' learning outcomes, particularly in terms of academic achievement and conceptual understanding. These findings are expected to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of more innovative and effective educational technologies for future learning.

Abstract

In the age of Society 5.0, digitalization has completely changed the educational landscape and made it necessary for schools to foster students' critical thinking, cooperation, communication, and creative thinking abilities. (4C). Students can be better prepared for change by attending vocational institutions, such as the Vocational School (SMK). The continued development of learning technologies is crucial, particularly those that rely on virtual learning. R&D (Research and Development) combined with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model is the research methodology used for the creation and assessment of learning media. Quasi-experimental (Non-equivalent Group Pretest Posttest Design) methods are used to measure students' increased capacity for collaboration through group controls and experiments. Two material experts and two media experts who are also students in class X at one of the Bandung SMKs serve as the subjects of the ADDIE model. Students in classes X.3 and X.4 are used for quasi-experimental procedures. The study's findings demonstrated that Flipbooks with augmented reality fell into a respectable category, with revisions observed in the presentations of 80.5% of subject matter experts and 80.8% of media professionals. In the experimental class, students' levels of collaboration were 91% with great categories, compared to 70% in the control class with good categories. These findings demonstrate how successfully using flipbooks with augmented reality can enhance SMK students' collaboration skills.

Abstract

Most villages in Indonesia, such as Bugel Village, are vulnerable to the spread of hate speech and fake news online. This fake news often contains elements of hate speech against specific groups, such as ethnicity, religion, race, or class (referred to as SARA), which can trigger division and conflict within society. Therefore, it is important for the community to have a critical awareness strengthened through digital literacy, so that they can counter hate speech and fake news. The community service activity carried out by the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia in Bugel Village, Tasikmalaya District, aimed to enhance digital literacy among the community. This activity involved 30 participants from various social strata, including village heads and farmers, focusing on digital literacy education to identify and counter the spread of fake news and hate speech online. Lecture and demonstration methods were used, and participants underwent pretests and posttests to measure improvements in understanding and application of digital literacy. The results showed significant improvement; the average pretest score for understanding increased from 55.8 to 85.8, and for application, from 65 to 86.1 in the posttest. Participants' satisfaction with the training was quite high, averaging 4.09. This activity successfully demonstrated the importance of digital literacy in the community, especially in facing digital information challenges such as fake news and hate speech, and emphasized the need for ongoing efforts to develop digital literacy in the community.
