Abstract

Background: The Grade Point Average (GPA) is an essential factor in medical education, since it is used to evaluate the quality of graduates, with a correlation between a higher GPA and higher-quality doctors. College admission selection system, which is aimed at identifying prospective students who are most likely to succeed in completing education at Faculty of Medicine and has Predictive Validity for undergraduate GPA, is one of factors that can influence GPA.Objective: Knowing the connection between college admissions selection system and grade point average for medical graduates. Methods: This research is an analytic observational study using a Cross Sectional design conducting to utilize a questionnaire on medical graduates for 2020 and 2021 periods. Total Sampling was utilized with a total sample size of 125 people (57 medical graduates for 2020 period and 68 medical graduates for 2021 period) who matched the research criteria. The research was evaluated univariately and bivariately using Somers'd correlation and One Way ANOVA tests, respectively.Result: The bivariate analysis for medical graduates for 2020 period produced a p value = 0.349. For medical graduates, a value p = 0.001 and r = 0.280 were obtained for 2021 period. The value of p = 0.010 was achieved in the One Way ANOVA test. Conclusion: For 2020 period, there is no relationship to college admission selection system and GPA of medical graduates. However, for 2021 period, there is a significant relationship between college admission selection system and GPA of medical graduates, and relationship is included in a weakly positive correlation. In addition, the average GPA of medical graduates varies according on college admission selection system. Background: Academic achievement is the result of learning obtained by students. One of the factors that influence academic achievement is organizational activity. Medical students tend to have low organizational activity as a result of the educational curriculum which causes lecture and practicum schedules to be more hectic than students of other study programs. Aim: Proving whether there is a relationship between organizational activity and academic achievement in students of the Medical Study Program, Universitas Nusa Cendana. Method: Observational analytic study with a case control design, which was conducted on students of the Medical Students at Universitas Nusa Cendana. Data on activeness in organizations was obtained by filling out the organizational activity questionnaire, while semester grade-point average data were obtained through the academic section of the Faculty of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine on 80 samples that met the inclusion criteria. Sampling was done by Stratified Random Sampling technique. The results were analyzed univariate and bivariate using the Coefficient Contingency test. Results: Data analysis from 80 samples showed that 73.75% of the samples had low organizational activity. Meanwhile, as many as 50% students have a semester grade-point average that is in the high category. The bivariate analysis with the Coefficient Contingency test show results p = 0.43 (p <0.05) on the relationship between organizational activity and academic achievement. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between organizational activity and academic achievement among students of the Medical Study Program, Universitas Nusa Cendana.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease with an increasing global prevalence. Effective monitoring and management are essential to reduce disease burden and prevent complications, including through HbA1c assessment and nutritional status evaluation such as Body Mass Index (BMI) and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC), which are feasible in primary health care settings. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional status and HbA1c levels among patients with Diabetes Mellitus at primary health centers in Kupang City. A cross-sectional design was conducted among 69 respondents selected using consecutive sampling at Oepoi, Sikumana, and Bakunase Primary Health Centers. Data were collected through BMI and MUAC measurements and HbA1c examination and analyzed using Pearson correlation test. The results indicated that most respondents were female, overweight based on BMI, had normal MUAC, and uncontrolled HbA1c levels. Statistical analysis showed no significant association between BMI and HbA1c levels (p > 0.05) nor between MUAC and HbA1c levels (p > 0.05). In conclusion, nutritional status was not significantly associated with HbA1c levels among DM patients. Glycemic control may be influenced by factors beyond anthropometric indicators.

Abstract

Primary dysmenorrhea ranks among the most prevalent menstrual issues in teenagers, impacting their everyday life and general well-being. The age at which menstruation begins has frequently been linked to the likelihood of experiencing dysmenorrhea; however, previous studies have produced mixed results. The goal of this research was to examine the connection between the age of menarche and the incidence of primary dysmenorrhea in female students at Kristen Citra Bangsa Mandiri Junior High School in Kupang. This investigation utilized an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 54 students were chosen using purposive sampling according to specific inclusion and exclusion standards. Menarche age was classified as early (younger than 12 years), normal (12 to 14 years), and late (older than 14 years). The WaLIDD Score was employed to evaluate primary dysmenorrhea. The data were processed using the chi-square test, with a significance threshold set at p<0.05. The findings indicated that 55.6% of female students had a normal age for the start of menstruation, while 44.4% started early. The occurrence of primary dysmenorrhea was found to be 77.8%, with mild cases at 38.9%, moderate cases at 31.5%, and severe cases at 7.4%. Those who did not experience primary dysmenorrhea made up 22.2% of the respondents. The statistical analysis yielded a p=0.90 value. There was no significant link between the age of menarche and the prevalence of primary dysmenorrhea among students at Citra Bangsa Mandiri Christian Junior High School in Kupang City.
