Abstract

AbstractThe aims are to analyze the culture categories and get the most dominant category presented in the textbook.  Qualitative research design, specifically content analysis of textbooks is employed in the study. The objective examination of the text data's content using a systematic coding process to identify themes or patterns is a research method known as qualitative content analysis (Hsieh and Shannon, 2005, p. 1278). The primary data source for this study is a junior high school English textbook for ninth graders called Interactive English. The researcher employs established categories to analyze the data, including food and drink, locations, art, ceremonies, social behavior, beliefs and values, history, and individuals. These categories were developed by Adoskou, Moran, Dweik, and Al-Sayed in 1990, 2001, and 2015. The textual and visual data are examined based on the cultural categories of source culture, target culture, and worldwide culture. According to the findings, source cultures are shown more frequently than target and other cultures.  It appears in 6 categories, which means that there are 2 categories that do not serve the source culture, namely; belief and value and arts categories. However the source culture is not dominated in each category, but for the percentage, it is the highest percentage of all (41,7%), international culture is 36,1 %, and target culture is 22,2%. The source culture also appears to be the most prevalent category in the interactive English textbook, with a significant number of entries in numerous categories, followed by the target culture and the international culture.   Keywords: international cultural, source cultural, target cultural, international cultural

Abstract

Ahlussunnah wal jama'ah itself is a teaching that adheres to the five sources of law. The five sources of law are the Qur'an, Hadith, Fiqh, Ijma', Qiyas. And Indonesia is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, with the majority adhering to the teachings of ahlussunnah wal jama'ah (aswaja). This article reviews the efforts made by Educational Institutions to ground Aswaja's identity. In particular, the cultivation of the Aswaja identity was carried out to ward off the Transnational Islamic movement which is currently rife among teenagers, especially in educational institutions. This article examines the implementation of Aswaja learning material at Islamic Junior High School Nurul Islam. This implementation is an effort to strengthen the understanding of Wasatiyah Islam among students so that it is not easy to get caught up in radical takfiri teachings. This study uses field research (field research) with qualitative methods. The approach used in this research is a descriptive research approach. The results of the study showed that the implementation of the Aswaja material at Islamic Junior High School was carried out through three stages including planning, review, evaluation, and outreach to student guardians. In addition, the application of this Aswaja material contributes to increasing students' understanding of Wasatiyah Islam including its history, religious beliefs adopted, its amaliyah teachings, as well as other understandings that conflict with Aswaja or Wasatiyah Islam.

Abstract

This study explores the application of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers within digital classroom environments. As educational technology continues to reshape language teaching, it becomes essential to understand how EFL teachers integrate technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge in their instructional practices. Using a qualitative research design, this study employed in-depth semi-structured interviews with 30 EFL teachers from diverse educational institutions. The findings reveal nuanced patterns in teachers’ integration of TPACK components, shaped by factors such as access to professional development, institutional support, individual attitudes toward technology, and contextual barriers unique to EFL digital classrooms. Notably, the study highlights inconsistencies in TPACK application, with many teachers demonstrating strong pedagogical or content knowledge but struggling with technological integration. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of TPACK implementation in digitally mediated language instruction and underscore the need for targeted support in teacher education programs. The study concludes by offering recommendations for professional development that address the evolving demands of digital language teaching and proposes directions for future research across broader educational contexts

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of multimodal resources in teaching English writing at the senior high school level, particularly their contribution to content delivery, student engagement, and lesson sequencing. The research was conducted in class X-2 of a public Madrasah Aliyah in Medan with 35 students, using classroom video recordings as the primary data collection method. Data analysis was carried out through O’Halloran’s as Systemic Functional Multimodal Discourse Analysis (SF-MDA), examining ideational, interpersonal, and textual meanings. The recorded lessons were divided into 40 segments covering the entire teaching sequence and analyzed based on verbal, visual, gestural, spatial, digital, and collective synchrony modes. The findings revealed that verbal and visual modes dominated content delivery, gestural and spatial modes directed students’ attention, and interpersonal engagement was enhanced through praise, humor, motivational prompts, digital interaction, and collective activities. Textual meaning was achieved through the integration of multiple modes, marking transitions, providing scaffolding, and maintaining lesson coherence. These results highlight the strategic implementation of multimodal resources as essential for creating an interactive, inclusive, and effective learning environment, offering practical insights for teachers to optimize English writing instruction at the secondary school level.

Abstract

This study aimed to discuss religious mobility in urban Muslim community of Australia by investigating organizational projects and religious practices. In addition, ethnographic fieldwork was conducted, which included extensive interviews and participation in organizational meetings. The results showed that urban Muslim community in Australia contributed significantly to the development of Islamic education, Islamic altruism, and spiritual performance. In this context, social sensitivity was reported by establishing institutions representing Muslim identities, such as Islamic Community of Melbourne Eastern Region (ISOMER) in Melbourne, Islamic Science and Research (ISRA) in Sydney, and Australian Sufi Association (ASA). Furthermore, religious mobility and practices were exemplified as agents of social change through the promotion of community engagement, which served as a manifestation of social solidarity. The three communities engaged in the social sphere were oriented toward spiritual-moral-ethical values to determine social movements in the educational, social, or religious ideology.

Abstract

The Master’s English curriculum in postgraduate English language education programs is essential for developing the linguistic competence, academic expertise, and professional skills required in today’s globalized era. This research compares the curricula at Indonesian Islamic Higher Education institutions and Australian universities to identify similarities, differences, and their implications for producing competitive graduates.  The study aims to align English education with global standards while integrating Islamic values. Key objectives include analyzing program structures, specializations, and content; identifying strengths and gaps; exploring innovative curricular practices; and proposing recommendations to enhance English curricula that promote both international relevance and Islamic identity. Employing a qualitative-comparative approach, this study utilized literature reviews, curriculum document analysis, stakeholder interviews, students and faculty surveys, classroom observations, and focus group discussions to gather diverse perspectives and practices. Findings reveal significant differences in pedagogical strategies, curriculum design, and philosophical orientations between the two contexts. A key area of divergence lies in how global academic standards are incorporated and balanced with Islamic educational principles. While both systems aim to prepare students for international competitiveness, Indonesian Islamic institutions focus on maintaining religious values, whereas Australian universities prioritize global benchmarks, highlighting a complex interplay between cultural identity and global educational demands. Drawing on these results, the study proposes strategic directions for curriculum development in Indonesian Islamic higher education, emphasizing the need to enhance graduates’ global competence while preserving religious and cultural integrity. The research provides valuable insights for policy formulation, curriculum innovation, and discussions on the internationalization of Islamic education.
