Abstract

The exponential growth of social media has resulted in the establishment of significant communities, trends, and phenomena. Amidst these phenomena is the sad culture, where social media users comfortably express their mental concerns. This study is conducted to have a profound conclusion on Sad Culture as a phenomenon, using social influence theory to determine its cause of emergence. In addition, the meaning of the terminologies is discussed using appraisal theory. This study implements qualitative and content analysis research design. It is implemented by gathering the data from @mytherapistsays Instagram page and performing an in-depth content analysis. Upon conducting the research, it is concluded that Sad Culture is a type of cyberculture. It is formed due to the rapid development of ICT–social media in particular–and the rising number of mental illnesses in the US. It started as a trend, then grew massive due to conformity, a term under social influence theory defined as an act where the majority influences others to perform what is believed to be the norm. In @mytherapistsays Instagram account, ten appraisal items are found, comprising 10% positive and 90% negative items.

Abstract

In the learning process, library sources or teaching references are one of the main components needed for a lecturer. The large number of textbook references available for a course can make it difficult for a lecturer to determine which option is appropriate or widely used by lecturers for the same course. The importance of selecting textbook references allows a lecturer to search for information to determine whether the reference is the main reference or an additional reference. Digital literacy is one way that a lecturer can use to search for information related to textbook references by using computers or smartphones. The problem is that the available digital literacy is not yet able to provide recommendations for textbooks that teachers widely use for a course based on certain criteria. Several criteria can be used as determining indicators for a recommended book, for example, popularity due to the highest rating used, author's name, publisher's name, content or material, and year of publication are usually the determining indicators for using a book as a reference.  In fact, in cyberspace, a lot of textbook reference information is provided, but it has not been grouped based on use. By utilizing a database of books published or sold online, you can find out what textbooks are the most popular and can be used as teaching materials. Still, a lecturer needs to find out one by one in each available online shop. The method in this research is data mining for textbooks that can be used as a reference for a lecturer using text mining techniques by clustering book titles in several online stores and based on semester learning plans from several campuses to map textbooks that are widely used. as reference material for 500 book titles from several publishers. Using 6 variables consisting of a book title, use for courses or fields of science, publisher, author, year of publication, and material, analysis will be carried out to obtain a data pattern. This research aims to apply a text mining concept to provide textbook recommendations for lecturers in the Informatics field of artificial intelligence courses using clustering techniques so that they can recommend reading books using 6 variables. The aim of this research is achieved in the form of software as a form of application of theory that has been tested in the laboratory for accuracy. The benefit of this research is providing lecturers with a list of textbooks that have been ranked automatically and are widely used in the same field of science.

Abstract

Fruitvale Station is a movie based on the true story of a shooting at a Fruitvale Station in Oakland, California, by a white police officer named Johannes Mehserle against a black man named Oscar Grant III. Oscar Grant, who was the victim of a conflict on a train that stopped at Fruitvale Station, was instead made a suspect in the incident by police officers who wanted to secure the train and was shot dead without any evidence of guilt or legal proceedings first. Thus, using Gordon Allport's Intentional, Explicit Discrimination theory, the authors analyzed the types of racial discrimination in the movie Fruitvale Station. Racial discrimination includes verbal antagonism, avoidance, segregation, physical attacks, and extermination. The author’s method to collect data is qualitative descriptive by examining the Fruitvale Station movie to understand the movie as the primary data. The authors will also include the dialogue from the script as secondary data. The findings of this study reveal five discriminatory behaviors (particularly discrimination based on race) committed by white characters against African-American characters in this movie.

Abstract

The Queen's Gambit (2020) addresses gender inequality against women in male-dominated industries like chess. Queen's Gambit displays patriarchal structural and representational judgment of women. Gender discrimination affects women's careers, identities, and development. Thus, the study examines gender discrimination's intersectionality and its effects on Beth Harmon, a white low-class young woman. Pictures and talks from the series are the key data in this qualitative study. Also used are intersectionality theory to analyze gender discrimination statistics and stages of development theory to examine character identity development. Gender, age, ethnicity, class, prejudices, and appearances encountered by Beth Harmon shaped her multifaceted identity. Discrimination hindered Beth's development as a chess player and woman throughout her school years, adolescence, and young adulthood, leading to both dystonic and syntonic effects. Stereotypes and injustice give rise to discrimination; therefore, we must acknowledge various identities and histories to prevent a "double burden" of discrimination that impedes growth.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the tourism destination countries in the world. The Indonesian government should minimize the risk of tourism activities at high-risk tourist attractions. In the digital era, efforts to optimize tourist protection can be made with artificial intelligence. This study aims to study tourist protection regulations in high-risk tourist areas in Indonesia and compare tourist protection regulations developed by other countries such as the United States of America, Japan, India, and Thailand. This research uses empirical legal legal research, combining normative legal elements with additional empirical data or elements. The results of this research show that there are traveler protection regulations in Indonesia, but their implementation still needs to be improved. Indonesia needs to learn from other countries, such as the United States of America, Japan, India, and Thailand, which have used international standards and implemented Artificial Intelligence. Through the recommended models for using Artificial Intelligence by researchers, it is hoped that they will be able to optimize the protection of tourists at high-risk tourist attractions.

Abstract

Abstract: As the gig economy era reshapes the global workforce, job readiness demands more than technical skills. Therefore, transformative thinking, creativity, and English competence become crucial. This study aims to explore how students from various backgrounds perceive the importance and the role of English competence, transformative thinking, and creative thinking in the gig economy era. Furthermore, this study also analyzes the relation between students’ socioeconomic background and their level of English competence toward their job readiness. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through a reflective instrument based on open-ended questions designed to explore students’ views and strategies in facing the challenges of the gig economy era. Fifty-one students with different characteristics, including high and low achievers and socioeconomic backgrounds, volunteered for the study. Thematic analysis was used to identify mindsets and work readiness that emerged from their narratives. The findings revealed that English competence is strongly related to self-confidence, professional communication effectiveness, and the ability to build global connections. Meanwhile, transformative and creative thinking encourages students to think critically, adapt to change, design creative solutions, and think outside the box. Furthermore, developing work readiness requires motivation, engagement, and reflective thinking because these qualities enable students to adapt, learn, and perform well regardless of their financial situation.
