Abstract

In the economic view, the manufacturing sector is important in relationship to its role in economicgrowth and the whole economy. This empirical work examines why manufacturing disparityexists, and what institutional and spatial factors empirically have an important effect onthe manufacturing sector development in Central Java Province, Indonesia. The variables thatare identified that have an influence on the manufacturing performance are ethno linguistic, legal rules, bureaucratic financial performance, democracy, city fascination, regional locationindex, the manufacturing base, infrastructure, the labor force, the intermediary finance institutionand the types of regional administration (regency and city). To analyze it, this researchuses the spatial econometric method on its methodological analyses. It is used to reduce thepotential problem that arose in the cross section and panel data which had spatial interaction, and spatial structure. This empirical work shows that all of the institutional variables havepositive and significant effects on the dependent variable. The other result is that every spatialvariable also tends to have a positive and significant impact on manufacturing development. For economic policy, labor activity, the roles of financial intermediaries and infrastructurevariables also have a positive effect on the manufacturing development. Keywords: manufacturing disparity, spatial econometrics, institutional, ethno linguistic, regional location index

Abstract

Purposes of this research are to determine some characteristics of distribution channel, market structure, and price maker transmission in purebred chicken egg commodity in Banyumas District, Central Java Province. Primary data applied on this research is from all channel distribution levels; from producers to final consumers. Meanwhile secondary data is collected from government official sources, such as BPS-Statistic of Banyumas Disrict, Banyumas Department of Industry, Trading and Cooperation, and previous researches which has been made by researcher team. Sample determining is directed by proportional random sampling methods. Some measurements are applied to this research, including to; Herfindahl Index (HI), Concentration Ratio (CF), and Minimum Efficiency Scale (MES) to investigate market structure; and Asymmetric Price Transmission (APT) to determine price transmission mechanism model. This research finds that (1) the distribution channel of egg commodity is spitted to different channel, the first channel: egg producer – retail traders – final consumers, and second channel: egg producers – whole seller – retail traders – final consumers; (2) market structure which is created to this farming specific commodity is perfect market; (3) price transmission mechanism analysis statistically shows that there is almost no existence of dominant power in price formation.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to describe the structure of household’s income of goat farmer and analyze the distribution of goat farmer household’s income in Banjarnegara. For this analysis, Banjarnegara district was divided into three agro ecological zones on the basis of altitude, i.e. low, medium and high land. 180 goat farmers were selected using multistage sampling and data were measured using descriptive statistic and Gini Coefficient. The study concluded that goat farming as a side job contributed 29% of total household income. The income from non-goat farming remain dominating a structure of household income by 71%. There was a high inequality household income among goat farmers with Gini Coefficient of 0.562. The high level of total income inequality was due to a greater relative inequality in non-goat farming income. Since there was a relationship between farm size and income, increasing the number of goats must be actualized to the goat farmers with no other livelihood. This would be able to reduce inequality of total income of goat farmers.

Abstract

The conservation of Indonesian Traditional Script is less seriously done. Therefore it needs to be encouraged especially for the traditional scripts because they are one of the national assets which need to be developed and kept. Lontara, traditional script in Indonesia, is the one which is still exist in use in South Sulawesi, although it is restricted in small areas. The term Lontara means history and science, and the second meaning is something written, or an article. Lontara script is also well known as Bugis Script or Makassar Script, but people prefer saying it as Lontara Script. The effort to introduce the Lontara is done in the following ways firstly by introducing the use and the benefit of the script. People are usually not interested to something because they do not know it. Secondly, it is done by reading and writing. Thirdly is by promoting the people to use it in daily written communication. Fourth is by using it in a publication, or written media, because this script needs to be spread out through a latest modern technology. Fifth is showing the Lontara to the people in a form of Artistic Craft, or paintings. Keywords: script, lontara, traditional, communication, publication.

Abstract

This paper examines a cross-sector collaborative model for development policy in a creative economy in a rural area setting. The creative economy based on the village’s creative potential is considered capable of contributing to the national economy, but it should be supported by public policies that are adaptive to the potential and needs of creative economy actors. The paper used a qualitative approach with case studies in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. This village represents one of the leading creative economy subsectors in Indonesia, which is culinary. The study found that collaboration among Penta Helix forces played multiple roles in driving rural creative actors and building rural creative ecosystems. The stages of collaboration were identified in strengthening organizational structure, program implementation, and organizational consolidation.  Organizational capability and innovation have been growing in rural creative economy actors during cross-sector collaboration implementation. This study provides insights into how Penta Helix collaborates with rural creative actors to promote the rural creative economy. From a public policy perspective, this study fills a significant gap in the literature regarding rural development models that are not covered much in the creative economy policy.

Abstract

Potential economic resources in the Central Java Province provide interesting features for analysis, especially agricultural sectors, where many regencies have relied on since 2000, but declined in 2004. Based on the State Location Quotient (LQ), this study finds the change in some leading economic sectors from 2002 to 2004 in those regencies and cities as well. The tendency of the change has an implication in the growth of the role in every single sector, relatively among the regions (regencies and cities). On the other hand, the Dynamic Location Quotient (ΔLQ) shows LQ variation across regions and some coincidence in decrease. If the decrease continuously occurs in important sectors of the regions with lower and negative LQ growth, there will also be adverse economic implications. In contrast, regions with higher and positive LQ growth will improve their potential economic resources.
