Abstract

This study raises the main issue of the religiosity of Muslim Baduy after converting to Islam in Leuwidamar, Lebak-Banten. The discussion aims to reveal the factors and the process of converting to Islam, to discover the religious behavior after converting to Islam and the impact of religious conversion on social and cultural changes of Muslim Baduy. The research is a descriptive-analytic study with an ethnographic method by using participant observation, in-depth interviews and documentation techniques. By using Rambo’s theory on the religious conversion stages and Glock and Stark’s theory on the religiosity, it has resulted a conclusion that the religiosity of Muslim Baduy in Leuwidamar, Lebak Regency, Banten is seen as a dynamic process based on the findings: 1) the conversion of Baduy people to Islam is due to political, theological, psychological, and sociological factors. 2) In one hand, Muslim Baduy leaves some tradition of Baduy particularly the rituals of Sunda Wiwitan and practices their obligation as a Muslim. On the other hand, Muslim Baduy still practices some Baduy tradition which is in line with Islamic shari’a.

Abstract

This study examines the religious transformation of the Muslim Baduy community in Leuwidamar, Lebak-Banten, with a focus on the conversion process, post-conversion religious practices, and the impact on social and cultural identity. The research aims to analyze the driving factors behind the conversion to Islam, the adaptation of religious behaviors following conversion, and the extent to which religious conversion influences socio-cultural changes among the Muslim Baduy. Employing a descriptive-analytic approach, this study utilizes an ethnographic method, incorporating participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the conversion of the Baduy people to Islam is driven by political, theological, psychological, and sociological factors. Politically, government policies supporting the welfare of isolated communities play a significant role. Theologically, Islam’s structured religious framework contrasts with the prohibitive and rigid customs of Sunda Wiwitan. Psychologically, Islam is perceived as a more accommodating and adaptable faith. Sociologically, interactions with the Muslim majority and economic constraints further influence conversion. Post-conversion, the Muslim Baduy continue cultural practices aligned with Islamic teachings while abandoning specific Sunda Wiwitan rituals. This study contributes to the discourse on religious transformation, identity negotiation, and the dynamics of indigenous belief systems in the context of Islamic integration.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji perkembangan pemikiran pendidikan Islam Kyai Ahmad Dahlan, seorang ulama berpengaruh dan pendiri organisasi Muhammadiyah. Pemikiran Dahlan yang menggabungkan pendidikan agama dan ilmu pengetahuan modern menawarkan paradigma pendidikan holistik dan inklusif, yang tetap relevan di era globalisasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi relevansi dan penerapan pemikiran pendidikan Kyai Ahmad Dahlan dalam konteks pendidikan modern, serta tantangan dan peluang yang dihadapinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi pustaka, mengumpulkan data dari berbagai literatur, termasuk buku, jurnal, artikel, dan dokumen resmi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemikiran Dahlan, yang menekankan integrasi antara ilmu agama dan ilmu umum, telah diterapkan di berbagai institusi pendidikan Muhammadiyah, menciptakan kurikulum yang seimbang dan menghasilkan lulusan yang kompeten dan bermoral. Tantangan utama dalam penerapan pemikiran ini adalah kurangnya sumber daya dan resistensi masyarakat terhadap integrasi pendidikan agama dan umum. Namun, globalisasi dan teknologi informasi menawarkan peluang besar untuk memperkaya kurikulum dan metode pengajaran. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa pemikiran pendidikan Kyai Ahmad Dahlan tetap relevan dan mampu menjawab tantangan zaman melalui pendekatan pendidikan yang holistik. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi dalam pengembangan teori dan praktek pendidikan Islam yang adaptif dan responsif terhadap perubahan zaman.

Abstract

Islamic studies as a field of discipline has undergone significant transformation throughout its history. The methodology used in Islamic studies continues to evolve, in line with the social, political, and intellectual developments within Muslim societies. This article explores the relationship between traditional methodologies in Islamic studies and the contemporary, more inclusive, and interdisciplinary approaches. By incorporating social theory, sociology, gender studies, and philosophy, the article argues that Islamic studies methodology needs to adapt to modern dynamics in order to provide a more holistic understanding of the religious and social phenomena faced by Muslims today. Furthermore, the article examines how traditional methodologies, focusing on tafsir, hadith, and fiqh, can be integrated with modern theories such as postcolonial theory, political sociology, and feminist theory. The research shows that while classical Islamic thought provides a strong foundation, contemporary methodologies that are more open to interdisciplinary approaches can offer new solutions in addressing contemporary challenges such as radicalization, secularization, and pluralism in the Muslim world.ABSTRAKStudi Islam sebagai disiplin ilmu telah berkembang seiring dengan perubahan sosial, politik, dan intelektual dalam masyarakat Muslim, yang memunculkan kebutuhan untuk menyesuaikan metodologi dengan tantangan zaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pergeseran metodologi dalam studi Islam, mengintegrasikan pendekatan tradisional dengan teori-teori sosial-politik kontemporer, seperti teori postkolonial, sosiologi, dan feminisme. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui studi literatur, mengkaji karya-karya klasik dan kontemporer terkait metodologi studi Islam. Data dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan analisis tematik untuk mengidentifikasi tema utama dalam perubahan metodologi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun metodologi tradisional yang berfokus pada tafsir, hadits, dan fiqh memiliki nilai penting dalam memahami ajaran Islam, pendekatan interdisipliner yang menggabungkan teori-teori modern semakin diperlukan untuk menjawab tantangan sosial-politik dunia Muslim masa kini, seperti radikalisasi, sekularisasi, dan pluralisme.

Abstract

Ibn Rushd, a renowned Islamic thinker, possesses extensive and profound scientific insights, particularly in the realm of Islamic education. As a Muslim intellectual, Ibn Rushd's expertise spans multiple disciplines, including philosophy, astronomy, jurisprudence, mathematics, and medicine. His passion for knowledge was nurtured by a family dedicated to science, leading him to study under distinguished scholars. His thoughts were profoundly influenced by Aristotle's rationality. This study aims to elucidate Ibn Rushd's contributions to Islamic education. The research employed a qualitative method with a literature study approach to analyze relevant literature., presented descriptively through data reduction, and concluded with key findings. The study reveals that Ibn Rushd advocated for integrating religious and general sciences and made significant efforts to harmonize philosophy with sharia (religion). His contributions to Islamic education include classifying students' comprehension levels according to their developmental stages and introducing various learning approaches and models, including the khitobi, jadal, and burhani methods. Additionally, he advocated for learning approaches grounded in reasoning, such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Project-Based Learning (PjBL)., and demonstrations.

Abstract

Mempelajari dan memperdalam kajian studi kawasan Islam merupakan suatu hal menarik yang selalu muncul dan dapat ditemukan di mana pun dan kapan pun. Begitupun meneliti Orientalisme dan Oksidentalisme tidaklah mudah. Meskipun kajian Orientalisme telah berkembang cukup lama, namun harus memuat banyak unsur dan beberapa variabel untuk menelusuri dinamika intelektualisme. Oleh karena itu, kami membuat artikel ini untuk mempertimbangkan pentingnya gerakan dan perspektif Barat dan Timur, serta mendiskusikan tahap awal dari perspektif tersebut dan tujuan dari masing-masing perspektif. Dari sudut pandang Timur, Barat sering digambarkan sebagai materialisme, kapitalisme, rasionalisme, dinamisme, sains, positivisme, dan sekularisme. Pada saat yang sama, negara- negara Barat memandang Timur sebagai negara yang miskin, bodoh dalam hal statistik, fatalistis, dan penuh warna.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools are the oldest educational institutions in Indonesia. It has its own uniqueness in its education system. Times began to change and the education system in Islamic boarding schools had to adapt, including adjustments to the existence of science. This research will focus on the theological view of Islamic boarding school education on the existence of science. The problem is that a large number of students in Islamic boarding schools do not have a great interest in science. In addition, this research will use library research method using theological and anthropological approaches. Thus, this study shows that education in Islamic boarding schools does not have a problem with the existence of science because it is considered final. The cause of the lack of interest in students to study science is more due to the culture and environment in which the students study.
