Abstract

Moringa leaf is a plant that has many uses that comes from the family Moringaceae and it is a tropical plant that is familiar to Indonesian people. Pharmacologically, this plant extract is reported to have antimicrobial and fungicide and it is rich in antioxidants. This metabolite compound contained in Moringa leaves has the potential as an antioxidant, antibacterial, functional and others. This study aims to determine the simplicia characterization of Moringa leaves and to determine the secondary metabolites contained in Moringa leaves, both Moringa leaf powder and Moringa leaf extract. The method of this research is experimental including the simplicia making and ethanol extract of Moringa leaves by maceration method, simplicia characterization and phytochemical screening. The results of the simplicia characterization of Moringa leaves for ethanol soluble extract content was 10,9% and water-soluble extract content was 15,8%, ash content was 9,6% and acid insoluble ash content was 0,6% and water content was 8%. The results of this study also showed that the simplicia powder and ethanol extract of Moringa leaves contained flavonoid, tannin, alkaloid, steroid and saponin.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in students' high-order thinking skills after the application of the discovery learning model integrated with generic science skills on chemical equilibrium material in class XI of SMA Negeri 5 Tanjung Balai. The sampling technique was carried out using the random sampling technique, namely taking one class randomly by drawing lots. The design of this study was a one group pretest-posttest design. In learning, the test instruments used were cognitive levels C1 to C6, namely multiple choice questions. Through hypothesis testing using one sample T-Test, data significance was obtained < 0.05 so that it can be concluded that Ha is accepted, which means that the average value of students taught with the discovery learning model integrated with generic science skills on chemical equilibrium material reached a minimum of 75.

Abstract

This study aims to develop teaching materials based on the IBL STEM model using the Wordwall application to improve students' critical thinking skills. The development model used refers to the ADDIE model with 30 students of the Chemistry Education Study Program, UNIMED as research subjects. The research instrument used an expert validation sheet and a test of students' critical thinking skills on stoichiometry material as many as 25 questions in the form of multiple choices. The results of the study indicate that teaching materials based on the IBL STEM model using the Wordwall application are feasible and effective in improving students' critical thinking skills in Stoichiometry learning. The feasibility is met qualitatively based on the assessment of material expert validators with an average total score of 4.36 (valid) and the assessment of media expert validators with an average total score of 4.32 (valid). Effectiveness is met based on the results of product implementation and evaluation results and is proven by statistical hypothesis testing (p < 0.05) with an average achievement of increasing students' critical thinking skills of 40.067 ± 9.318.

Abstract

Abstract

Quality education requires a learning system that can develop the potential of students, one of which is through the development of effective learning media and models. However, in practice, learning media are often not used, learning models are monotonous, students' problem-solving abilities are low, and student activities are passive, resulting in low learning outcomes, especially in acid-base material. This study aims to determine the significant differences in learning outcomes between students using Wordwall and Macromedia Flash problem-based media on acid-base material in grade XI, as well as to assess the effectiveness of both media. The research method employed purposive sampling with a Two Group Pretest-Posttest design. Data were collected through cognitive learning achievement tests and analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Levene's test for homogeneity, two-tailed t-test, two-way ANOVA, and N-Gain test with SPSS 26.0. The results of the study indicate that the learning outcomes of students using the Macromedia Flash media with the problem-based learning model were higher than those using the Wordwall media onacid-base material

Abstract

Learning outcomes constitute a fundamental metric in assessing the effectiveness of the educational process, as they encapsulate students' comprehension, mastery, and practical application of the knowledge and skills imparted during instruction. Within the educational framework, these outcomes function not only as indicators of the efficacy of pedagogical approaches and instructional media but also as essential references for the continuous evaluation and enhancement of teaching quality. This research seeks to examine the learning outcomes of students who were instructed using Virtual Lab and Reaction Rates Monopoly media, both implemented through a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The participants in this study were students from classes XI Bio I and XI Bio II at SMAN 18 Medan, selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using a one-tailed t-test at a significance threshold of α = 0.05. The findings revealed that: (1) the mean learning score of students engaged with the problem-based Virtual Lab was 80.22, whereas those using the problem-based Reaction Rate Monopoly media achieved an average score of 70.00; and (2) students exposed to the problem-based Virtual Lab media attained significantly higher learning outcomes compared to their counterparts who used the problem-based Reaction Rates Monopoly media.
