Abstract

This research is a descriptive research which aims at describing conversational gambits used by the English Education Program students of Graduate Program of Padang State University in organizing their utterances and interaction in classroom discussion. Purposeful sampling was used to choose 5 classroom discussions and 13 students who actively gave verbal contribution through the using of conversational gambits. The instruments used in this research were observation, field note, and also interview. The finding showed that the type of conversational gambits frequently used by the students in classroom discussion was linking gambits. The gambits used were frequently functioned as communication control. The research also revealed that the students tended to utter certain conversational gambits; “okay” and “I think” more frequently than others which was caused mainly by their habit in using those gambits in their daily communication.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: Mengetahui pengaruh kelengkapan alat praktik bengkel terhadap hasil belajar praktek mata Pelajaran sasis Jurusan Teknik Kendaraan Ringan SMK 2 Kota Sungai Penuh. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif korelasi dengan objek penelitiannya adalah siswa kelas XI TKRO. Populasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu semua siswa jurusan Teknik Kendaraan Ringan Otomotif di SMK Negeri 2 Kota Sungai Penuh dan semua siswa dijadikan sampel sebanyak 62 orang siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penellitian ini observasi dan dokumentasi. Alat pengumpulan data berupa table kelengkapan dan niilai yang selanjutnya akan diolah, sehingga mengasilkan hasil pengaruh kelengkapan. Berdasarkan hasil data penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa Dimana nilai signifikasi dari table koefisien diperoleh nilai signifikasi sebesar 0,001 < 0,005, sehingga dapat disimpulkkan bahwa variabel kelengkapan alat praktik (X) berpengaruh terhadap variabel hasil belajar praktik siswa (Y). The purpose of this study is to determine how the completeness of workshop practical instruments affects the practical learning objectives of the Light Vehicle Engineering Department's chassis course at SMK 2 Kota Sungai Penuh. The research object in this study is the class XI TKRO students, and the descriptive correlation method is employed. The 62 students who were sampled for this study were all majoring in Automotive Light Vehicle Engineering at SMK Negeri 2 Kota Sungai Penuh. In this study, documentation and observation are the methods used to acquire data. The data gathering tool takes the form of a completeness and values table, which will be processed to produce results related to the completeness effect. The research data results indicate that the variable completeness of practical tools (X) influences the variable student practical learning outcomes (Y). The significance value from the coefficient table, where the value is obtained, is 0.001 < 0.005, supporting this conclusion.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research aims to determine the improvement in students' English speaking skill by implementing Project Based Learning in a Blended Learning system. This model of learning was conducted in two cycles consisting of four meetings in each of the cycle. The research began with a pre-test to determine initial speaking skills and language aspects which became the weaknesses of Polytechnic students in speaking English. The results of the pre-test then became the basis for implementing the Project Based Learning model. Online learning was conducted by using online media to observe the process of projects making and to submit those speaking projects which were regarded as post-test at the same time. Face-to-face learning, on the other hand, was carried out to discuss the learning topics before the speaking project assignment. The results of the study showed an improvement in students' English speaking skills after the implementation of Project Based learning. In the pre-test, the average score of students' speaking skills was only 58.7. In post-test 1 of cycle 1, the average increased to 63.5 and in post-test 2 of cycle 2 it increased to 70.1. In addition, the study revealed that Project Based Learning also succeeded in changing the students’ learning attitude and in promoting students’ creativity

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh belum adanya keseimbangan kemajuan di berbagai bidang termasuk dunia pendidikan. Oleh karenanya harus dilakukan perbaikan dan penyempurnaan sistem pendidikan dan semua yang tercakup dalam pendidikan. Hal itu dilakukan demi tercapainya peningkatan standar proses pembelajaran pada satuan pendidikan yang mencakup aspek-aspek kognitif dan afektif. Salah satunya aspek kemampuan berpikir kritis dan Self Confidence siswa yang berperan penting dalam meningkatkan standar proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan Self Confidence siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan Inkuiri dengan pembelajaran Konvensional di SMK Negeri 1 Rejang Lebong. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X TITL1 yang berjumlah 30 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas X TITL 2 yang berjumlah 30 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen dari empat kelas yang ada di SMK Negeri 1 Rejang Lebong. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes akhir berupa tes kemampuan berpikir kritis dan menggunakan angket berupa angket Self Confidence. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik uji t. Berdasarkan analisis data kemampuan berpikir kritis, pada kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan pendekatan Inkuiri diperoleh nilai rata-rata tes akhir yaitu 77, sedangkan pada kelas kontrol yang menggunakan pembelajaran Konvensional diperoleh nilai rata-rata tes akhir 50. Berdasarkan hasil analisis statistik uji t, untuk kemampuan berpikir kritis diperoleh bahwa  thitung = 17,65 >  ttabel = 2,000 sehingga H0 ditolak. Sedangkan berdasarkan hasil analisis statistik uji t data Seff Confidence diperoleh bahwa thitung = 4,69 > ttabel = 2,000. Artinya, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada postes antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menemukan kesulitan-kesulitan siswa dalam memahami teks bacaan analytical exposition. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, menunjukkan bahwa ada 8 indikator yang mempengaruhi siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami teks analitikal ekposisi. Hal Ini menjelaskan bahwa dari setiap indikator dalam memahami teks analitikal eksposisi, sebagian besar siswa dapat mengidentifikasi topik, sebagian dari siswa juga dapat mengidentifikasikan ide pokok dari sebuah teks dan menemukan arti kata dalam konteks, sebagian kecil siswa dapat mengidentfikasikan acuan kata dan inferensi atau kesimpulan, dan sebagian besar siswa juga dapat menentukan tujuan komunikasi sebuah teks, struktur teks dan penggunaan bahasa dalam teks analitikal exposisi. Ini ditunjukkan bahwa siswa mempunyai kesulitan dalam berbagai factor dari pemahaman membaca teks analitikal eksposisi. Dan disamping itu, interview juga menunjukkaan banyak siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam mengidentifikasi makna kata dalam konteks, acuan kata, dan kesimpulan/inferensi. Hal Ini dikarenakan mereka tidak paham apa yang disampaikan didalam teks, penggunaan bahasa apa di dalam teks, tidak memahami teks, minimnya kosa kata, dan malas untuk membaca teks dengan seksama

Abstract

Having sufficient English vocabulary especially the technical one indeed becomes one of the aspects in supporting the English learning for Electrical Engineering students. This classroom action research study, therefore, aims to investigate students’ motivation and proficiency on technical vocabulary through the implementation of Flipped Learning. This study was conducted to the second semester students of Electrical Engineering Study Program of Polytechnic of Raflesia. The Flipped Learning was implemented in two cycles consisting of four meetings of each cycle. Pre-test and post-test were given along the learning to assure the improvement on students’ vocabulary. The interview then was conducted as well to figure out how Flipped Learning influenced students’ motivation. The study reveals that Flipped Learning does contribute positively to the students’ motivation and their proficiency on Technical Vocabulary, especially on noun and verb related to the safety precaution and safety equipment.

Abstract

The rise of teenage motorcycle gangs in Medan represents a significant social and psychological issue, marked by patterns of violence, delinquency, and identity crises. This study aims to explore the deviant behavior of adolescent gang members through the lens of Sigmund Freuds structural personality theory, particularly examining the roles of the id, ego, and superego, and the influence of childhood trauma on personality development. A qualitative-descriptive method was used to collect in-depth insights from selected informants, including active and former gang members, school counselors, community leaders, and law enforcement personnel. Data were gathered through limited observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke (2006) was applied, with themes constructed around key Freudian concepts. Findings indicate that the dominance of the id, weakened ego regulation, and an underdeveloped superego contribute to impulsive, aggressive, and morally detached behaviors among gang members. Early trauma, such as emotional neglect and exposure to domestic violence, significantly impairs personality development. In many cases, the gang provides a psychological refuge and an alternative moral structure, substituting familial support. Defense mechanisms such as rationalization and projection are commonly used by adolescents to justify their violent acts. The study concludes that understanding gang behavior from a psychoanalytic perspective provides a deeper comprehension of the psychological roots of violence. It also highlights the need for early psychosocial intervention, family-based support, and structured therapeutic programs focused on rebuilding ego strength and moral reasoning.

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to portray the improvement on student’ vocabulary proficiency and creative thinking through video project learning. The research was conducted to the first-semester students of the Islamic Economics Study Program of IAIN Curup. Observation and interview were used to collect the data. Observation on the video was on two purposes. First, to collect the data about English vocabulary used by the students to describe students’ vocabulary proficiency. Second, to collect the data on the performance of the video as a whole to analyze students’ creative thinking. The interview, in addition, was conducted to the students to gain a deeper understanding of the creative thinking process the students went through to complete the video project. The results of the study indicate that in terms of vocabulary, students' ability still needs improvement. Meanwhile, in terms of creative thinking in creating the video, students have demonstrated good creative thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the realization of English language teaching strategies for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) students, especially in terms of the implementation of teaching strategies. This study took place at SMPLB of Curup, Bengkulu, Indonesia. Drawing upon a constructivist epistemology, this study applied a descriptive qualitative method to reveal the data. There was only one English teacher who taught ASD students, and the teacher was involved as the subject of this study. The data were garnered form interviews and document analysis. The data were further analyzed using an interactive model extending to data collection, data condensation, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the teacher used three strategies in teaching children with autism, namely developing oral language comprehension, echolalia, and communication skills enhancement through the PECS method. In addition, the teacher also modified the form of the strategy according to the needs of students with autism.
