Abstract

Speaking is considered to be difficult thing, moreover English as a foreign language. Students' performance depends on their personalities. Students who have low participation in speaking activity in the classroom lose their opportunity to practice their speaking skill which may cause poor speaking skill and achievement. However, some of students are active in speaking activity in the classroom that leads them to have good skill and achievement in speaking. This study attempts to reveal: (1) speaking strategies used by Indonesian tertiary students in terms of speaking English and strategies to improve their speaking ability, and (2) to identify speaking strategies mostly used by the students when they speak English and improve their speaking ability. This study is a descriptive research since its purpose is to describe the Indonesian tertiary students’ learning strategies in learning speaking English. The data from 15 tertiary students, who have good performance and achievement in speaking, from one of schools of higher education in Cimahi were collected using a 21 items questionnaire of a modified version of Strategy Inventory Language Learning (SILL) and 5 items interview questions. The result of the study revealed that some speaking strategies are used in terms of speaking English and improve speaking ability, namely cognitive, metacognitive and compensation strategy. In the type of speaking strategy that mostly used by the student in terms of speaking English is compensation strategy, while cognitive strategy was indicated as the mostly speaking strategies used by the Indonesian tertiary students in improving their speaking ability.  Considering to the study conducted, it is recommended to students that they should know what strategies that appropriate and can help them in learning speaking English. The students should be able to choose strategies they need in learning and analyze which strategies that give better effect on their own learning.Keywords: Speaking, strategy, speaking strategy, tertiary students

Abstract

This present study tries to elaborate the area of study particularly conversation principle on EFL area especially in Indonesia EFL context. This study focuses on the identifying different types of conversational implicatures especially flouting maxim found in EFL classroom interaction. Adopting a qualitative approach, it involved lecturer and students dialogue in classroom interaction through observation and video recording. The results show that students flouting maxim of quality and manner in classroom interaction. Students preferred not to tell the truth information and answer the yes-no question using long response answer and ambiguous words.

Abstract

People feel that web 2.0 technologies and social networking sites (SNS), especially Facebook, are closely associated for use in educational programs as a learning tool, especially for the purpose of teaching and learning English. Rather, it has been seen as a way for students to supplement their formal education by conducting research and reading articles outside of the classroom. What I Like About Facebook, it can create a group learning, Dr. Grammar is the example. It is a Facebook group for learners who have desire to learn English grammar. This study explores Facebook and language learning in the context of learners’ experiences in learning English grammar using Dr. Grammar. Adopting a qualitative case study approach, it involved sixteen participants who enrolled Dr. Grammar through questionnaire and interview. Responses to Likerts-scale items were analyzed using percentage frequency response, while to yield a more in-depth analysis semi-structured interview was used to gain the participants’ responses. The results showed that learners experience positive attitude toward Facebook group in learning grammar through Dr. Grammar. This study suggests that learners must be able to not dependent on the teachers itself, they are allowed to learn and explore the use of technologies and social networking in fostering learners’ autonomous in the learning process.

Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada masyarakat di sekitar kampus STKIP Pasundan tentang pentingnya melaksanakan protokol Kesehatan 5M. Kegiatan edukasi kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan secara daring dengan melibatkan 44 kepala keluarga termasuk Ketua RW dan RT, dan 2 orang petugas Satgas Covid-19 di Kelurahan Citeureup, Kecamatan Cimahi Utara, Kota Cimahi. Pengukuran pemahaman tentang pentingnya menjaga protocol Kesehatan dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) ini dilakukan. Dari hasil pengukuran sebelum dan sesudah pelaksanaan kegiatan PKM ini, didapat hasil bahwa adanya peningkatan kesadaran masyarakat dalam menerapkan protokol kesehatan selama pandemi covid-19. Kegiatan ini sangat membantu masyarakat yg terkena dampak dari pendemi covid-19 dan meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat untuk selalu melaksanakan protokol kesehatan yang dianjurkan oleh pemerintah.

Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah guna memberikan pengalaman belajar bahasa Inggris, memotivasi siswa untuk belajar bahasa Inggris serta menumbuhkan semangat siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris sebagai sarana berkomunikasi bagi siswa/i SMK. Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilakukan secara luring dengan bertempat di SMK Pasundan 3 Kota Bandung yang melibatkan 25 siswa/i SMK Kelas X Jurusan Multimedia. Dari hasil pelatihan didapatkan bahwa di era sekarang ini kemampuan berbahasa Inggris sebagai sarana berkomunikasi sangatlah penting. Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang menyenangkan dapat menumbuhkan minat, motivasi serta semangat siswa SMK untuk belajar bahasa Inggris lebih mendalam.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe students’ learning straties in an English as a Foreign Langauge (EFL) learning used by social and science students in certain senior high school in Sumedang. Students of grade 11 were chosen as participant of this research. 9 students of social and 9 students of science were selected as the sample of this research. This research is categorized as qualitative research using questionnaire from Oxford (1990) as the instruments and followed up by semi-structured interview to confirm the result from questionnaire. It is found that there are 6 strategies used by both social and science students. They are memory, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive, affective, and social strategies. Based on the data found, the researcher concluded that most of social students frequently use social, cognitive, and affective strategies, while most of science students frequently use metacognitive, cognitive, and compensation strategies. In essence, each student has a different way of learning. they have their advantages and disadvantages. Since it is known that learning strategies are importnat it is suggested for teacher to train students to use language learning strategies that can help them become better language learners.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kandungan morfem bebas terikat dalam pidato Obama di DNS 2020 dan mengklasifikasikannya berdasarkan perubahan kelas kata setelah morfem bebas memperoleh morfem terikat berbentuk imbuhan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk memperoleh data. terdapat 50 morfem termasuk morfem bebas dan terikat yang ditemukan dari pidato Obama di Konvensi Nasional Partai Demokrat tahun 2020. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa 12,3% ucapan mengandung prefiks sedangkan 87,7% terdiri dari sufiks. Hal ini menyoroti preferensi yang signifikan terhadap sufiks yang menunjukan kecenderungan penekanan tindakan atau modifikasi setelah akar kata.

Abstract

Abstract

Pendidikan anak usia dini memerlukan bahan ajar interaktif untuk mendukung perkembangan kognitif dan sosial anak. Namun, keterbatasan keterampilan teknologi di kalangan guru TK menjadi hambatan utama. Oleh karena itu, pelatihan pemanfaatan aplikasi Gamma AI diadakan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan digital guru TK Al Wahdah di Kota Bandung. Pelatihan ini dirancang untuk membekali guru dengan kemampuan merancang bahan ajar berbasis AI yang menarik dan interaktif. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada keterampilan teknis guru, terlihat dari rata-rata skor pre-test 50 yang meningkat menjadi 85 pada post-test. Selain itu, 90% peserta melaporkan peningkatan kepercayaan diri dalam menggunakan teknologi untuk pengajaran. Implikasi dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan workshop berbasis hands-on efektif dalam meningkatkan kompetensi digital dan kepercayaan diri guru, sehingga dapat memperbaiki kualitas pembelajaran anak usia dini. Pelatihan semacam ini penting untuk diadakan secara berkelanjutan guna memastikan para guru tetap up-to-date dengan perkembangan teknologi pendidikan dan mampu mengintegrasikannya dalam proses belajar-mengajar. Dukungan infrastruktur dan pelatihan lanjutan sangat dianjurkan untuk memastikan keberlanjutan hasil positif ini dan memperluas dampaknya pada skala lebih luas.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of artificial intelligence (AI)-based training, especially ChatGPT, in increasing the techno-pedagogic capacity of Al-Wahdah Kindergarten teachers in the city of Bandung. This training is designed using a hands-on-based interactive workshop approach, which allows teachers to directly practice the use of ChatGPT in designing teaching materials that suit the needs of early childhood. Evaluation is carried out through pre-test and post-test to measure the improvement of teachers' skills in the use of technology. The results showed that the average teacher's pre-test score was 50, which increased to 85 on the post-test, showing an increase of 70%. In addition, 90% of participants reported increased confidence in using AI technology to design more creative and interactive teaching materials. Although this training has succeeded in improving teachers' technical skills, challenges such as limited access to technology devices and infrastructure in schools are obstacles to the long-term application of this technology. Therefore, ongoing support and adequate infrastructure are needed to ensure long-term success.
