Abstract

The title of this study is Syntactic and Sematic Analysis on Slogans of Aviation in Asean Countries. The aim of this study is to analyze and describe the slogans of aviation companies in Asean companies syntactically and semantically. The method used in this study is descriptive method. Data source are taken from official websites of various aviation companies in Asean countries, and there are taken from Wikipedia as the website has listed in chart. Abstract

This research titled Figurative Language in Joko Widodo Speech. The purpose of this research is to analyze and describe the figure of speech in Joko Widodo speech, the types of figurative language and its meaning of his speech. A qualitative method was used to classify and analyze the data. The technique used in collecting the data was searching videos of Joko Widodo speech. The data used Perrine (1963) and Taylors theories (1981: 167) that many types of figurative language that divide into three classifications namely comparison and substitution, representation by substitution, and contrast by the discrepancy. The data was taken from Joko Widodo Speech in Annual Meeting International Monetary Fund-World Bank in Bali, World Economic ASEAN Forum in Hanoi and US-ASEAN Forum. The author found 9 figurative languages in Joko Widodo speech in the international event; there were 7 allusions, 1 metaphor, and 1 assonance. The conclusion of this research, the using of figurative language is an alternative to implied the literal meaning which can attract the readers or listeners attention and evoke their imagination.

Abstract

This study focus on analysis of translation used in translating usage instruction of beauty products. The purpose of this research are (1) to identify translation method which are used in translating usage instruction of beauty products. (2) to identify translation technique which are used in translating usage instruction of beauty products. (3) and to identify the shift in meaning that occurs in translating usage instructions of beauty products. Data sources used are several beauty products that use English and Indonesian translations. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach. The theoretical basis of this research is Newmarks (1988) translation method theory, Molina & Albirs (2002) translation technique theory, and Nida (1975) shift in the translation process theory. The results of this study show that there are: (1) 3 translation methods used are 40% of data using the free translation method, 40% of the semantic method, 20% of the adaptation method. (2) 4 translation techniques used are 40% using adaptation techniques, 20% transposition, 20% linguistic amplification, and 20% amplification. (3) there was a shift in translation in the translating usage instruction of beauty products, namely 40% Changing information (skewing of information), 40% Information gain, and 20% Loss of information.

Abstract

The title of this research is “ Satir Pada Meme Politik Presiden Donald Trump : Kajian Semantis.” This study aims to identify types of satire and the elements of satire in meme of Presiden Donald Trump which contain critism. The method used in this study is the Descriptive Analysys method, which is method is collect the data then processed and analyzing the data and drawing the conclusion. Theory of satire used in this study is based on Abraham (2013 : 175) and Griffin (1994: 1). Theory of types of satire is based on Quintero (2007: 104) theory and the element of satire used Robert Harris (2004) theory. The result of this research from 30 data, there is 2 types of satire, that is Horatian Satire found consist 16 (53,3%) data and Juvenalian Found consist 14 (46,7%) data. Based types of satire, is consist of elements of satire. From Horatatian satire is consist element of Sarcasm 5 data (16,7%), Irony 4 data (13,3%), Hyperbole 2 data (6,6%), and Parody 5 data (16,7%). From Juvenalian satire, is consist element of Sarcasm 7 data (23,4%), Irony 5 data (16,7%), and Hyperbole 2 data (6,6%). The conclusion of this research is the Horatian satire are mostly found, that is 16 data and the Sarcasm is mostly found in the element of satire, that is 12 data.

Abstract

The purposes of this study are to analyze the types of deixis, the functions of deixis, and the factors of deixis in the novel Fangirl. The writer used qualitative descriptive method with the theory from Nazir (2013). In analyzing the data, the writer used the theories about pragmatics from Mey (1993), Leech (1983), and Yule (1996). The writer also used the theories about deixis from Cruse (2000), Levinson (1983), and Kreidler (1998). The results show (1) there are 30 data of five deixis types found in the novel Fangirl consisting: 6 data (20%) of person deixis, 4 data (13,3%) of place deixis, 7 data (23,3%) of time deixis, 7 data (23,3%) of discourse deixis, and 6 data (20%) of social deixis. (2) Deixis have different functions according to each types of deixis. They are to explain the participant role in speech acts (person deixis), to explain the relative location to the location of speaker and addressee (spatial deixis), to show the time when the speech occurs (time deixis), to show references contained in discourse of the speech acts (discourse deixis), and to show aspects of social relationship between the speaker and the addressee (social deixis). (3) The deixis factors found in the data analysis consisted of 5 factors: participant role (28.3%), usage function (51.7%), social status (3.3%), formality/informality (3.3%), and intimacy (13,3%).
