Abstract

The study aimed to describe (1) the employment of Mastery Learning method, (2) the student learning outcomes after the implementation of the learning method, and (3) the effectiveness, efficiency and attractiveness of the employment of Mastery Learning method for teaching German grammar and vocabulary in two PASCH-schools in Malang. The study is a qualitative study using a case study design. The research data were collected from German language classes at two PASCH- schools in Malang, SMAN 1 and SMAN 5 Malang. Observations, video recordings, and interviews were used to collect the qualitative data. Data analysis was performed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman (1984). The findings reveal that (1) the Mastery Learning method was successfully employed at the two PASCH- schools, (2) the students’ mastery of the German grammar and vocabulary ranged from good to very good, and (3) the method was considered effective, efficient, and attractive.

Abstract

This study was conducted to explore and describe the clarity, the naturalness, the emotional expressions and the styles used in the translation of Hansel and Gretel fairytale. The data were collected through document analysis and analysed by using three main steps, namely data reduction, data display, and data conclusion and verification. The results showed that (1) there are many forms which are not clear and not easy to understand; (2) there are many forms which are correct grammatically but not natural; (3) emotion is expressed through words, phrases and sentences which describe anger, fear, sadness, joy and calmness; and (4) there are five styles used by the translator: simile, hyperbol, assonace, repetition and personification.  Permalink/DOI: dx.doi.org/10.17977/um015v45i12017p064

Abstract

Translating of humour text in the audiovisual product is an uneasy challenge for the translator. The translator should act as a connector between the original text of the source language (SL) and the audiences of targeted language (TL) to convey the message and information in the film subtitle correctly without eliminating the humorous impact. This study is aimed to identify and describe the translation techniques in the humor text of German film titled Er ist wieder da. The translation is classified by using the techniques offered by Molina and Albir. This is a qualitative study that focuses on translation techniques of the humor text in the subtitle of film Er ist wieder da as the material object of this study. The study found that translator uses 11 techniques that consist of adaptation, borrowing, established equivalent, generalization, linguistic amplification, linguistic compression, literal translation, modulation, particularization, reduction, and transposition.  Keywords: subtitle, humour, translation techniques, Molina and Albir

Abstract

The objective of this study is to develop e-module teaching material based on flipbook with the topic of “Familie”.This study is quantitative and qualitative research with an instrument of questionnaire. Based on the validation results, the e-module was rated 89% by media expert and 92% by the material expert. Assessment from the expert teams was included in very valid category. In addition, assessment of students to flipbook e-module obtained average score of 89% with very good criteria. Based on the results of research then it can be concluded that e-module based on flipbook is feasible to be used as an independent teaching material by students of 11th SMAN 1 Gondanglegi. E-module based on flipbook is very interesting and easy to used to help students in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the translation of cultural aspects folklore "Nyai Anteh Sang Penunggu Bulan" as well as the ideology and the translation techniques carried out by the students of the German Literature Department, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Negeri Malang. This study uses qualitative method with source language text (SL) and target language text (TL) as the data sources. Meanwhile, the data of this study are in  form of SL words, phrases, and  sentences that contain cultural content and student translation versions. The data  was then analyzed interactively through three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of this study indicate that the translation of cultural aspects in the folklore is classified into 5 cultural aspects as in the SL texts’ cultural aspects. Some aspects of the culture have been translated well by the students, while some are still not fully accepted. In translating the five cultural aspects, the students used the ideology of foreignization and domestication based on the needs of borrowing and literal translation techniques, even though the translation results are not always acceptable.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the errors in the formation of Präteritum for regular and irregular verbs in student essays in Aufsatz II course and the factors that cause them. The data were collected using documentation and questionnaire techniques, then the data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that there were still many Offering A students class 2017 who had difficulties and made mistakes in forming Präteritum for regular verbs (regelmäβiges Verb) and irregular verbs (unregelmäβiges Verb) when writing essays. Factors causing students to make errors in the formation of Präteritum in essays in the Aufsatz II course include: (1) lack of understanding of the use of Präteritum for regular and irregular verbs, (2) lack of understanding of the formation of Präteritum for regular and irregular verbs, and (3 ) forgot the rules for forming Präteritum, especially for irregular verbs.

Abstract

This study is aimed to describe: 1) application of the Explicitation and Implicitation translation theory in translation result of the short story Die Verwandlung, and 2) the translation technique used by the translator to put explicitation and implicitation theory into practice. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The study found that explicitation theory applied in 4 form: 1) lexical unit addition, 2) replacement of general SL unit with more specific TL unit, 3) structural shift in TT, and 4) one sentence from ST divided into 2 or several sentences in the TT. In addition, there are 2 form of Implicitation theory: 1) deletion of the SL unit, and 2) replacement of a specific SL unit with a more general TL unit. The study found that the translator uses 6 translation techniques that consist of addition, amplification, particularization, transposition, deletion, and generalization.

Abstract

Pengembangan ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan produk pengembangan berupa media pembel­ajaran中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] berbasis PowToon. Media pembelajaran中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] merupakan media pembelajaran untuk mempelajari hari raya di Tiongkok dan Indonesia melalui bantuan audio visual. Pada penelitian dan pengembangan ini, diterapkan model ADDIE sebagai pro­sedur penelitian. Penelitian ini menggunakan lembar angket sebagai instrumen untuk mengumpul­kan data kualitatif dari ahli materi, ahli media, dan subjek penelitian. Sebelum diimplementasikan, media pembelajaran中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] sebagai produk pengembangan divalidasi terlebih dahulu oleh ahli materi dan ahli media. Hasil validasi menunjukkan bahwa produk pengembangan ini sudah layak digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran selanjutnya, media 中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] diujicobakan kepada 56 mahasiswa yang memprogram Mata Kuliah Pemahaman Lintas Budaya. Ber­dasarkan hasil uji coba, media pembelajaran 中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] menarik, dapat membantu maha­siswa dalam mempelajari materi, dan dapat digunakan sebagai sarana belajar mandiri. Kata kunci: pengembangan; media中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] berbasis PowToon; mata kuliah pemahaman lintas budaya The Development of PowToon-Based Media 中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] for Cross Cultural Understanding Course Chinese Language Teaching UM This development aimed to produce a development product in the form of中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] learning media based on PowToon. 中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] learning media is a learning media for learning feast day in China and Indonesia through audio visual assistance. In this research and development, ADDIE model was applied as the research procedure. This research employed questionnaire sheet as the research instrument for collecting the qualitative data from material expert, media expert, and research subject. Before being implemented, 中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] learning media as the development product was validated first by material expert and media expert. The validation result showed that this development product was feasible to be used as a learning media, then, 中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] learning media was tested on 56 students. Based on the test results, 中印节日 [zhōng yìn jiérì] learning media was attractive and could help students learn the material, and could be used as the facility of independent learning. Abstract

This research aims to classify the varieties of slang in the movie Hard Feeling based on Ehmann’s theory and describe the translation strategies used by students of Department of German Literature, State University of Malang in translating slang varieties in the movie based on Pedersen’s theory. This research uses descriptive method with qualitative approach. Words, phrases, and sentences belonging to the slang varieties contained in the subtitles of the movie and the translation results of students are the data in this research which were collected using Simak and Catat techniques and analyzed using Miles and Huberman data analysis technique. This research uses instruments, namely Human Instrument and documentation tables. The results of data analysis were validated using Murdiyanto’s technique, namely Meningkatkan Ketekunan. The result of data analysis shows that the 74 data of slang varieties in this movie are classified into Fremdsprache Anleihen, Bedeutungsumkehrung, Vereinfachung, Klangliche Eindeutschung, Wortneuschöpfung, Bedeutungserweiterung, Bedeutungsverengung, Bedeutungsverschiebung, and Kreative Wortspielen. In addition, the translation strategies used are Situational Substitution, Calque, Completed Unmarked Retention, Paraphrase, TL-Adjusted Retention, Generalization Superordinate Term, Omission, and Completion.
