Abstract

The need for good literacy, especially mathematical literacy in the industrial era 4.0 and the low international assessment are the main concerns for Indonesia. The study aims is to provide an overview of mathematical literacy and numeracy literacy from various sources. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Sources of data come from various relevant documents collected through library sources. The result of the study found that mathematical iteration and numeracy literacy have a close relationship when viewed from the scope of context, competence, and content. In terms of context, both mathematical literacy and numeracy literacy have the same scope, namely personal, work, social, and scientific. In terms of competence, all competencies in numeracy literacy are included in mathematical literacy. Mathematical literacy has 3 competencies that are not possessed by numeracy literacy including communication, mathematizing, and devising strategies for solving problems. In terms of content, all content in numeracy literacy is included in mathematical literacy. Mathematical literacy has 7 contents that are not owned by numeracy literacy including functions, algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities, co-ordinate systems, counting principles, data variability and its description, and samples and sampling.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' strategies in translating English-Indonesian mathematics texts. The study was conducted on students of the Mathematics Education study program in the English for Teaching Mathematics course. The research method is a qualitative descriptive method with data analysis units of text translation as many as 31 students. The translation strategy uses 2 stages, namely the comprehension strategies, referring to the analysis of the source text, and the production strategies, referring to the production of the translated text. The results of the study reveal that in general students have been able to carry out comprehension strategies well as evidenced by their good understanding of mathematics and mathematics learning vocabulary, while the production strategy stage is still lacking, i.e the results of the production of a full sentence translation text in paragraph form involving mathematical vocabulary still too 'stiff'. The conclusion of this study is that the factors of experience and student habituation in reading mathematics texts in English have an effect on the ability in understanding strategies and production strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' mathematical communication skills by using a realistic mathematics approach. This research was conducted at one of the private MI in South Jakarta. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design in the form of a posttest only control group design. The samples of this research were students of class IV-B as the experimental class and students of class IV-C as the control class which were obtained by using purposive sampling technique on the fourth grade students with the subject of the circumference and area of ​​a flat shape. The test given is in the form of a description test with 8 items. The results of the calculation of the T-test using the Independent Sample T-Test get a significance of 0.008, meaning 0.008 <0.05, then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. This is also reinforced by the average value of the posttest results of the experimental class of 75.94, while the average value of the posttest results of the control class is 63.22. This shows that the mathematical communication skills of students who use the realistic mathematics approach are higher than the mathematical communication skills of students who do not use the realistic mathematics approach.

Abstract

Misconception is something that can hinder the acceptance of new material and affect success in solving mathematical problems. This study aims to identify misconceptions in mathematics education students who are prospective mathematics teachers. Identifying and finding solutions to this misconception is very important because it can help improve student learning outcomes. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method using diagnostic tests and interviews. The diagnostic test was conducted on 28 mathematics education students using an instrument in the form of structured essay questions. Students are asked to answer questions with the right steps, then fill out a CRI questionnaire to measure the level of confidence in the answer. The results showed that there were half of all students who experienced misconceptions when doing proof by mathematical induction. There are 3 types of misconceptions experienced by students, namely: algebraic concept errors, misconceptions in the basic steps related to series, and algebraic calculation errors. The largest percentage are algebraic misconceptions.

Abstract

There is a significant gap between secondary school mathematics and university mathematics courses. This study aims to identify how mathematics education students understand the connection between topics in Real Analysis and school mathematics content. The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with the research subjects being students who are pre-service mathematics teachers who are taking the Real Analysis course. Data analysis was carried out in 3 stages, namely: data condensation (data reduction), data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Concept-by-concept connections between Real Analysis topics and mathematics in secondary schools are categorized based on Suominen's categorization of mathematical connections. The research findings reveal that pre-service teachers have limitations in identifying the connections between Real Analysis and school mathematics topics. The connections that students identified were limited to general ideas. It is necessary to prepare a structured learning method in the Real Analysis course that can facilitate the gap between university mathematics and school mathematics.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis apa saja kesalahan siswa dalam mengerjakan soal permecahan masalah materi pokok bangun ruang sisi datar, serta apa saja yang menyebabkan kesalahan siswa dalam mengerjakan soal pemecahan masalah materi pokok bangun ruang sisi datar. Pengambilan subyek penelitian yaitu dari 38 siswa kelas VIII-B yang mengikuti tes, hasil tes siswa diurutkan berdasarkan dari nilai yang terbesar ke yang terkecil kemudian dibagi menjadi tiga kelompok. Subyek penelitian terdiri dari 6 siswa yaitu: 2 siswa dari kelompok atas 2 siswa dari kelompok sedang, dan 2 siswa kelompok bawah yang masing-masing memiliki kesalahan terbanyak dari kelompoknya yang selanjutnya akan dilakukan wawancara intensif. Hasil penelitian diperoleh kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa yaitu kesalahan konsep (KK), kesalahan menggunakan data (KD), kesalahan interpretasi bahasa (KB), kesalahan teknis (KT), dan kesalahan penarikan kesimpulan (KS). Adapun penyebab kesalahan tersebut adalah siswa belum mampu mengaplikasikan materi bangun ruang sisi datar pada soal pemecahan masalah, kurang teliti dalam melakukan perhitungan, tidak memeriksa hasil perhitungannya kembali, kesalahan dalam imajinasi ruang, belum mampu menggunakan ide-ide geometri dalam menyelesaikan soal, kurang memahami berlakunya operasi pada aljabar, kurang teliti dalam memasukkan data ke variabel, dan kurangnya keterampilan dalam merencanakan penyelesaian. Berdasarkan penelitian tersebut maka disarankan kepada guru-guru yang mengampu kelas VIII SMP hendaknya menjelaskan langkah-langkah dalam mengerjakan soal pemecahan masalah serta menekankan pada langkah memahami masalah, merencanakan penyelesaian dan memeriksa kembali agar kesalahan-kesalahan siswa dalam mengerjakan soal pemecahan masalah materi pokok bangun ruang sisi datar tidak terulang lagi.

Abstract

Literasi statistis adalah salah satu hardskill matematik yang harus dimiliki mahasiswa calon jurnalis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan literasi statistis mahasiswa berdasarkan komponen keterampilan membaca, pengetahuan statistika, pengetahuan matematika, pengetahuan konteks, dan keterampilan mengevaluasi informasi melalui pertanyaan kritis dan mendeskripsikan gambaran literasi statistis mahasiswa ditinjau dari tingkat resiliensi matematisnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif jenis non-eksperimental deskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah 38 orang mahasiswa di program studi Jurnalistik diperoleh dengan teknik purposive sampling. Penelitian ini dialksanakan pada bulan September 2021. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah tes literasi statistis dan skala resiliensi matematis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komponen literasi statistis dengan capaian tertinggi adalah pengetahuan konteks dan terendah adalah pertanyaan kritis. Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian ini adalah dari 5 komponen capaian literasi statistis mahasiswa hanya 1 komponen yang termasuk kategori baik yaitu pengetahuan konteks sedangkan 4 lainnya termasuk kategori kurang dan perlu ditingkatkan. Selanjutnya secara deskriptif capaian masing-masing komponen literasi statistis antara mahasiswa dengan resiliensi tinggi dan sedang tidak jauh berbeda. Capaian literasi statistis pada mahasiswa dengan kategori resiliensi tinggi dan sedang adalah hanya 1 komponen yang termasuk kategori baik yaitu pengetahuan konteks sedangkan 4 lainnya termasuk kategori kurang dan perlu ditingkatkan juga.

Abstract

Student confidence is one of the factors that affect students' algebraic thinking skills. Algebraic thinking ability is the ability to present information mathematically through diagrams, tables, graphs, equations, and understanding of patterns, functions, structures, and uncertain objects. This study aims to describe and analyze quantitatively the algebraic thinking ability of high school students, high school students' self-confidence and know the influence between algebraic thinking ability and students' self-confidence. This research was conducted in three public high schools in South Tangerang City in the 2023/2024 school year. This research is a survey research with a correlational approach. The test instrument given was a description of algebraic thinking ability and a non-test instrument of self-confidence to 111 students. The results showed that students' algebraic thinking ability and self-confidence were in the moderate category. The results also showed that the effect between students' self-confidence on algebraic thinking ability was 33.60%. It can be concluded that if students' self-confidence is good then the ability to think algebra will also be good. The results of this study can be a consideration for teachers to develop mathematics learning activities that can increase student confidence.

Abstract

Abstract: Pengembangan media digital tidak hanya menunjang proses pembelajaran tetapi juga membuat pembelajaran mengikuti perkembangan teknologi terkini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan komik digital berbasis STEM. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian pengembangan. Model pengembangan yang digunakan adalah model ADDIE yang terdiri dari lima tahap yaitu analisis, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, evaluasi. Produk yang dikembangkan adalah komik digital berbasis STEM pada materi pola bilangan. Hasil validasi ahli media dan ahli materi menunjukkan bahwa produk komik digital berbasis STEM ini valid dan layak digunakan. Penggunaan komik digital berbasis STEM dalam kegiatan pembelajaran memperkenalkan cara baru dan inovatif untuk mempelajari pola bilangan dan dapat membantu siswa memahami konsep dengan lebih efektif. Komik digital berbasis STEM ini juga mendapat respon positif dari siswa dengan kriteria layak. Abstrak: The development of digital media not only supports the learning process but also keeps up with the latest technological developments. This  study  aims  to  develop  a  STEM-based  digital comic.  This  study  is  a  type  of  development  research.  The  development  model  used  is  the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages, namely, analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation. The product developed are STEM-based digital comic focusing on number patterns. The results of the validation of media and material experts indicate that this STEM-based digital comic product is valid and feasible to use. The use  of  STEM-based digital comic in  learning  activities  introduced a new and innovative way to learn number patterns and could help the students understand the concept more effectively.  This  STEM-based  digital comic also gets positive responses from students with feasible criteria.

Abstract

AbstractEthnomathematics is defined as the integration between a specific culture and mathematics. This research aims to develop teaching materials as a learning module on geometry building space integrated with Betawi culture. The research method is R&D with the Plomp model, which consists of five phases: preliminary investigation; design; construction/ realization; test, evaluation, and revision; also implementation. The subjects in this study consisted of three Lecturers of Mathematics Education at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, one junior high school teacher, and two high school teachers in the North Jakarta area. In addition, in this study, four junior high school students and four high school students were also involved as respondents in assessing the readability of the modules made.The results of assessments from experts show that the modules made are very feasible. The results of the students' responses to the learning module are included in the perfect category. So, it was concluded that the module could be used as additional material for teachers in teaching the geometry of flat buildings and building spaces using Betawi culture. Abstrak Etnomatematika merupakan integrasi antara budaya tertentu dengan matematika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar berupa modul pembelajaran geometri bangun ruang yang diintegrasikan dengan kebudayaan Betawi. Metode penelitiannya yaitu R&D dengan model Plomp yang terdiri dari lima fase, yaitu fase investigasi awal; desain; konstruksi/ realisasi; tes, evaluasi, dan revisi; serta implementasi. Subjek dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari tiga Dosen Pendidikan Matematika UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, satu orang guru SMP, dan dua guru SMA di wilayah Jakarta Utara. Selain itu, dalam penelitian ini dilibatkan juga empat orang siswa SMP dan empat orang siswa SMA sebagai responden dalam menilai keterbacaan modul yang telah dibuat. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian dari ahli menunjukkan bahwa modul yang dibuat  sangat layak. Adapun hasil respon peserta didik terhadap modul pembelajaran termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik. Sehingga disimpulkan bahwa modul yang dibuat dapat dijadikan sebagai bahan tambahan bagi guru dalam mengajarkan geometri bangun datar dan bangun ruang dengan menggunakan budaya betawi.
