Abstract

Biologi sebagai cabang sains, bukan hanya belajar tentang pengetahuan konten melainkan juga belajar tentang proses. Oleh karena itu, dalam pembelajarannya, diperlukan kegiatan praktikum yang merupakan bagian integral dari pembelajaran sains. Potensi besar dari kegiatan praktikum dalam pembelajaran biologi tersebut, tidak diimbangi dengan sarana prasarana di lapangan seperti laboratorium, alat-alat laboratorium dan bahan untuk melaksanakan praktikum. Oleh karena itu, Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan tindakan untuk mengisi atau menjembatani gap antara konsep ideal tersebut dengan kondisi di lapangan yang tidak ideal tersebut melalui kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah untuk memberikan pengetahuan terkait alat-alat laboratorium beserta penggunaannya dan pengenalan praktikum sederhana biologi sekolah. Mitra pengabdian adalah 6 guru biologi dan 32 siswa dari SMP Pakenjeng yang terletak di wilayah selatan kota Garut. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan melalui metode ekspositori, pameran, demonstrasi dan diakhiri dengan refleksi. Data diambil menggunakan angket berbasis skala Likert dan dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Indikator keberhasilan pengabdian adalah adanya peningkatan pengetahuan, minat, dan kesediaan untuk mengikuti pengabdian selanjutnya. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa 81 % peserta sudah meningkat pengetahuannya tentang alat-alat laboratorium. Selain itu, 63% peserta sangat setuju bahwa dengan demonstrasi praktikum, antusiasme dalam menyimak pembelajaran biologi menjadi meningkat. Sementara itu, 80 % peserta menyatakan puas terhadap pelaksanaan pengabdian ini dan menyatakan bersedia mengikuti jika diadakan acara pengabdian kembali dengan tema lainnya Training on the Use of Laboratory Equipment and Introduction to Simple Biology Practicum Biology, as a branch of science, not only learns about content knowledge but also learns about processes. Therefore, practicum activities are needed in learning, which is an integral part of science learning. The great potential of practicum activities in biology learning needs to be balanced with infrastructure facilities in the field, such as laboratories, laboratory equipment, and materials to carry out the practicum. Therefore, it is necessary to take action to fill or bridge the gap between the ideal concept and the conditions in the field that could be better through community service activities. This service aims to provide knowledge related to laboratory equipment and its use and introduction to simple practicum in school biology. The service partners are six biology teachers and 32 students from SMP Pakenjeng, located in the southern area of Garut City. This community service activity is carried out through expository methods, exhibitions, and demonstrations and ends with reflection. Data were taken using a Likert scale-based questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. An indicator of successful service is increased knowledge, interest, and willingness to participate in further service. The results of service activities showed that 81% of participants had increased their knowledge of laboratory equipment. In addition, 63% of participants strongly agreed that enthusiasm for listening to biology learning increased with practicum demonstrations. Meanwhile, 80% of participants expressed satisfaction with the implementation of this service and expressed willingness to participate in a re-service event that was held with other themes.

Abstract

Tumbuhan mangrove memiliki akar yang muncul ke permukaan tanah sebagai respon adaptasi dalam mengatasi kondisi tanah yang miskin oksigen atau anaerob, karena secara periodik selalu tergenang air ketika kondisi pasang surut. Akar-akar ini berperan sebagai komponen aerasi yaitu mendukung proses pertukaran gas atau oksigen yang dibutuhkan untuk proses respirasi tumbuhan mangrove. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: 1) Pola zonasi tumbuhan mangrove di Pantai Cipalawah Cagar Alam Laut Sancang Garut Jawa Barat, 2) Morfologi akar tumbuhan mangrove, 3) Jenis-jenis substrat di lingkungan tumbuhan mangrove. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan metode transect line plot dan observasi dengan penempatan titik pengamatan (stasiun) secara purposive sampling (bertujuan) berdasarkan keberadaan objek penelitian dan situasi serta kondisi lokasi penelitian. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan pola zonasi tumbuhan mangrove dari arah laut ke arah daratan adalah Sonneratia alba, Avicennia marina, Rhizophora mucronata, Aegiceras corniculatum, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, dan Xylocarpus granatum. Berdasarkan pola zonasi, diketahui bahwa tumbuhan mangrove di zona depan sebagian besar memiliki morfologi akar berbentuk akar napas (pneumatophore), akar tunjang, dan akar menjalar, sedangkan zona tengah dan belakang sebagian besar memiliki morfologi akar berbentuk akar lutut dan akar papan atau banir. Substrat yang dominan di lingkungan pantai ini adalah lumpur berpasir berkarang.

Abstract

Penguatan Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) menjadi krusial dalam implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan membekali guru Biologi MGMP Kabupaten Garut dengan keterampilan menyusun modul ajar yang sistematis, kontekstual, dan berbasis karakter. Pelatihan dilaksanakan dalam bentuk workshop dan pendampingan daring, melibatkan 42 guru. Materi mencakup penyusunan modul berbasis Capaian Pembelajaran (CP), Tujuan Pembelajaran (TP), karakteristik peserta didik, dan asesmen. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui angket tertutup dan terbuka. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman guru terhadap penyusunan modul ajar, integrasi profil pelajar Pancasila, dan pemilihan asesmen. Namun, aspek TP dan asesmen memerlukan penguatan lanjutan. Kegiatan ini menegaskan pentingnya kolaborasi antara perguruan tinggi dan MGMP dalam pengembangan profesional guru.

Abstract

Pendidikan abad ke-21 menuntut siswa memiliki keterampilan berpikir kritis, kolaboratif, dan kreatif, namun dalam praktiknya masih banyak siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami konsep-konsep biologi yang kompleks seperti sistem indera manusia. Hal ini ditingkatkan menjadi lebih parah dengan penggunaan metode pembelajaran konvensional yang membuat siswa kurang aktif saat proses pembelajaran. Salah satu solusi yang ditawarkan adalah penerapan metode pembelajaran hands on minds on activity yang menekankan agar siswa aktif, mandiri, dan terlibat langsung dalam proses belajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas metode pembelajaran hands on minds on activity dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada materi sistem indera manusia di kelas XI SMA Negeri 11 Garut. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain pra experiment tipe one-group pretest-posstest terhadap 40 siswa, dengan pengumpulan data melalui tes pretest dan posttest yang dianalisis menggunakan uji gain ternormalisasi dan uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan signifikan hasil belajar siswa, dengan rata-rata gain berada pada kategori sedang dan tingkat ketuntasan mencapai 92,5%, melampaui ambang batas efektivitas sebesar 75%. Peningkatan ini dicapai melalui proses pembelajaran yang aktif dan sistematis, dimana metode pembelajaran hands on minds on activity memfasilitasi keterlibatan langsung siswa dalam kegiatan belajar. Dengan demikian, metode pembelajaran hands on minds on activity efektif diterapkan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada materi sistem indera manusia secara aktif dan bermakna.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) assisted by mind mapping on students’ problem-solving skills in the context of environmental change. A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design was conducted with 74 tenth-grade students at a senior high school in Garut, Indonesia. The experimental group received CIRC combined with mind mapping, while the control group experienced teacher-centered instruction. The results showed no significant difference at the pre-test stage, indicating comparable initial abilities. However, the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher post-test scores, with a very large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.31). A dimensional analysis revealed that the intervention enhanced students’ ability to clearly identify environmental problems, explain cause and effect relationships, and predict ecological consequences. The most substantial improvement was observed in generating and justifying solutions, where students produced more feasible, creative, and scientifically grounded responses. These findings suggest that integrating CIRC with mind mapping effectively supports the development of higher-order problem-solving skills. This approach promotes deeper analytical thinking and equips students to address complex socioscientific issues, highlighting its value as an innovative strategy in biology education

Abstract

Jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis L.) is a legume with considerable potential as an alternative food source due to its high protein and carbohydrate content and its ability to improve soil fertility. However, its cultivation remains limited, particularly on marginal lands such as saline soils that are increasingly expanding due to seawater intrusion and improper irrigation. Soil salinity inhibits plant growth by causing osmotic and ionic stress while triggering proline accumulation as a physiological adaptation. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of salinity stress (NaCl) on the morphological growth and proline content of jack bean plants. The experiment was conducted in Singkup Village, Pasirwangi District, Garut, from April 26 to June 10, 2025, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five NaCl concentrations (0, 1500, 2500, 3500, and 5000 ppm) and five replications. Observed parameters included plant height, leaf number, root length, fresh weight, and proline content. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that NaCl significantly affected all growth parameters. Growth inhibition was most pronounced at 5000 ppm, whereas optimal growth occurred at 0 ppm. Conversely, proline content increased with higher NaCl concentrations, indicating the plant’s adaptive response to salinity stress. Overall, jack bean growth declined significantly at NaCl levels above 2500 ppm, accompanied by increased proline accumulation. These findings provide insights for developing legume cultivation strategies on saline soils

Abstract

Research and practice in educational settings should consider exploring the rich diversity of emotions experienced by students outside classroom settings, including nature clubs, as a conservation education program. This study aimed to conduct an exploratory case study to explore students' academic emotions during conservation education programs. The case study was carried out for four weeks to determine what can be learned from a single case about the students’ emotional aspects of the conservation education program in the Nature Club. Data collection is conducted through observation, interview, and collection of documents at the end of every activity. The data consisted of field notes and videotapes from observation, interview transcripts, and student emotions diary (SED). The research participant was 21 elementary students aged 9 to 11 who joined the Nature Club conducted by the Little Fire Pace (LFP) Community as one of their conservation education programs. The result shows that conservation content which is also part of science, can be learned and stimulate the emergence of students' academic emotions, both positive and negative. The dominant emotion in nature club activities is the happy emotion, and the slightest emotion arising from this activity is disgust. Then the results of student interest in all activities were more remarkable than boredom. Finally, suggestions are made on implications for teacher or pre-service teacher education for conservation or science education.   Â
