Abstract

This study tries to investigate the use of qirā`at shādhah in Shia interpretation. The discussion about qirā`at shādhah in the study of al-Qur`an exegesis is still interesting to examine. It is indicated that different perspectives can affect the realization of understanding the Qur'an. This can be seen, for example, in the debates of al-Shāfi'i and Mālik with Abū Ḥanīfah and Aḥmad in understanding surah al-Māidah verse 89 which explains about the fine for violation of oaths which results different legal products. The use of qirā`at shādhah seems to have also been of concern to the Shi'ah interpreters. Al-Ṭabāṭabā'ī for example in al-Mīzan fi Tafsīr al-Qur'ān stated that permissiveness of mut'ah marriage  was mentioned in the QS. al-Nisā 'verse 24 which was corroborated by qirā`at shādhah Ubay bin Ka'ab, Ibn Mas'ūd, and Ibn Abbās. Meanwhile, al-Shawkānī Shi'a scholar taking the Zaidiyyah thought,  argued otherwise. Nikah mut'ah is not allowed because the argument is interrogated (mansūkh). This means that qirā`at shādhah is also an important term for the Shi'ah group to be used as a tool for analysis in producing new laws in the products of their interpretation. Therefore, this paper will look at how the existence of qirā`at shādhah in Shia Interpretation work, especially the differences between their scholars regarding it. In addition, the discussion of qirā`at in Shi'ah is still rarely found. As a comparison, this paper will describe the terms nikah mut'ah and imāmah.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the interactions and responses of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) community toward the attitudes of the Indonesian Islamic Da'wah Institute (LDII) by examining the moderation practices implemented by NU figures and the community in Dasun Village, Lasem Sub-district, Rembang, Central Jawa. The research employs a qualitative approach with a field research methodology. The selection of research subjects was conducted using purposive sampling, focusing on informants with in-depth knowledge of NU's moderatism in Dasun Village. The primary subjects include religious and community leaders, village heads, officials, and religious figures affiliated with both NU and LDII, as well as four community members actively engaged in local activities. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was carried out using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings, analyzed through Talcott Parsons' theory of social change, reveal two key aspects. First, the social interactions of NU members reflect positive engagement, which extends beyond mere spatial coexistence to active participation in both social and religious activities. Second, viewed through Parsons' AGIL framework, NU religious and community leaders in Dasun successfully eliminated socio-religious barriers by fostering unity in communal events without emphasizing specific organizational or ideological affiliations. This approach aimed to build solidarity, cohesiveness, and shared responsibility. Furthermore, the integration of religious and community leaders played a crucial role in leveraging social dynamics to mobilize residents toward harmonious coexistence. This was achieved by maintaining togetherness, social cohesion, and latent solidarity, as well as preserving local traditions and cultural practices. These findings contribute to the theoretical discourse on religious moderation and social integration by demonstrating how grassroots leadership fosters harmony in pluralistic communities.

Abstract

Lately, the mining issue in Indonesia has become controversial due to the regulation of the President of Indonesia Number 76 of 2004. The studies focusing on the issue of mining and its connection with the Qur`an have not existed at all. So far, articles on mining issues have been merely descriptive, not applicative. Hence, this article aims to contextualize the Qur`an with mining operations in Indonesia. This article is qualitative research and utilizes al-tafsīr al-maqāṣidī as the approach. By examining the maqāṣid of the Qur`anic verse, this article reveals that managing the earth to obtain its benefits is allowed as it is a natural thing given by God while maintaining the sustainability of the environment as well as complying with sharia. In addition, government’s regulations have been compatible with the maqāṣid as well.

Abstract

The increasing religious intolerance in Indonesia in recent years has prompted various responses from religious authorities, including Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). One of NU's efforts to address this phenomenon is through fatwas issued by the Forum Bahtsul Masail Kyai Muda Anshor (2017) and Bahtsul Masail Maudhu’iyah at the National Conference (Munas) of NU (2019), which emphasize the principle of religious tolerance, particularly concerning non-Muslim leadership and the status of non-Muslims in Muslim-majority societies. This study focuses on analyzing these two fatwas using a qualitative method through discourse analysis and interviews with key figures involved in their formulation. The findings indicate that NU fatwas not only serve as Islamic legal guidelines but also function as instruments of social reconciliation in plural societies. These fatwas offer a more inclusive and contextualized Islamic perspective, reaffirm NU’s commitment to national principles, and demonstrate that religious authority plays a crucial role in shaping tolerance discourse amid Indonesia’s socio-political dynamics. Furthermore, this study reveals that the production and reception of fatwas are influenced by social and political factors, underscoring the importance of understanding how fatwas are utilized in shaping public opinion.

Abstract

This study examines the interpretation of QS. al-Nisa`: 43 which discusses tayammum. The significance of this research is that in understanding QS. al-Nisa`: 43, there are many differences of opinion among scholars about the meaning and procedure of tayammum. Therefore, this article is presented by using qualitative methods and muqāran interpretation as an approach. Tayammum hadith facts and their context will also be presented to understand the QS. al-Nisa`: 43 comprehensively. This study shows that there are at least four points of difference among scholars regarding the interpretation of the words mardhā, safar, Falam Tajidū Māan, and ṣa‘īd. Such differences are caused by some scholars who do not consider the hadiths of tayammum comprehensively.
