Abstract

It is of interest to point out that Alquranul Karim Bacaan Mulia (AKBM) has two sides, or regarded as dualism. One side is as quranic translation and the other hand, made in poetrical form. Some papers have discussed AKBM by using the theory of translation an sich. Hence, this aims to analyze how HB Jassin’s aesthetic reception to metaphorical quranic verses by other approach. Using the theory of literary criticism, it concludes that, first, HB Jassin gave a deep and beautiful meaning of translation of metaphorical verses by poetical way. Second, to study AKBM needs not only theory of translation, but also theory of literary. Keywords: AKBM, Metaphorical Verses, Literary Criticism

Abstract

This paper discusses the phenomenon of religious lectures on social media that are gender-biased. The gender-biased religious lectures delivered in social media by some famous figures perpetuate the discrimination against women in Indonesia. This research answers how and why the religious lectures with gender-biased theme appear massively on social media. By using a qualitative method and feminist approach, the study focuses on the religious preachers on the new social media. This study shows that the large amounts of lectures with the gender-biased theme in social media are inseparable from the role of the promotional accounts. It shares videos of gender-themed propaganda massively and attractively to attract many visitors and followers of these accounts. This study reveals that the massive religious lectures with gender bias on social media are not only dealing with the textual understanding of religious texts but also a matter of the religious commodification. The actors of business could determine the massively particular religious discourse on social media.

Abstract

Pengajian (religious teaching) is one of the primary programmes at Jogokariyan mosque. It has been held regularly and incidentally using the current issues as a theme. After the 212 demonstration 2016 in Jakarta, pengajian in Jogokariyan always uses the specific themes related to the religious social issues.  This article tries to explore how the reception of hadis or the teachings of prophetic tradition live in a social movement in the context of pengajian at Jogokariyan mosque. Employing a social movement approach, this article seeks to explore deeply how the hadis or prophetic traditions are expressed and its relevance to the social movement in pengajian. The social movement has three strategies, namely, (1) political opportunities, (2) mobilizing structures and (3) framing process. This present paper concludes that firstly, religious teaching in Jogokariyanmosque is a model of reception of hadis about seeking knowledge and majlis ilm’. The hadis is used as a basic tool to mobilize the process of social movement in pengajian. Secondly, the social movement in the Jogokariyan mosque is motivated by the injustice feeling caused by the policy of the government today.

Abstract

Prior to reading this paper, it is important to realize that hadis as source of islamic teachings has been expressed on cultural varieties. This aims to explore how the Bugis society views both the meaning of Maulid (prophetic birthday celebration) and the reading of Bugis-barzanji and to analyze the acculturation between both islamic teaching and Bugis culture on reading the Barzanji in Maulid. This research uses acculturational concept to explore deeply and briefly how islamic  teaching and local tradition produce the new religious cultural practices. This concludes that first, barzanji in Bugis society is one of religious cultural practices regarded as secred tradition excepting in Maulid. Second, the Bugis-barzanji read on maulid celebration in order that society are able to understand easily the barzanji containing sīrah nabawiyyah (prophetic history) is one of living-hadis phenomena.

Abstract

The Qur'an is always positioned as the main source of social ethics in Islam. The problem is, there are several verses of the Quran that describe non-believers (infidels) as blind people. Such a way makes it as if the Quran marginalizes people with disabilities. Therefore, it is important to understand how the actual existence of the blind in a full context of the Quranic view. This paper uses a semantic approach in analyzing the word al-a‘mā and its various derivatives in the Quran. This study concludes: First, the Quran uses al-a‘mā more in a metaphoric meaning; not the blind of the eye, but the blind of the heart. Second, the Quran gives more appreciation to the people with disabilities and at the same time, it criticizes unbelievers during the Prophet's time.[Alquran selalu diposisikan sebagai sumber utama etika sosial dalam Islam. Masalahnya, ada beberapa ayat Alquran yang menggambarkan orang yang tidak beriman (kafir) sebagai orang buta (difabel netra). Cara demikian membuat seolah-olah Alquran memarginalkan mereka. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk memahami bagaimana sebenarnya eksistensi difabel netra dalam bingkai kesatuan wawasan Alquran. Tulisan ini menggunakan pendekatan semantik dalam menganalisis kata al-a‘mā dan berbagai derivasinya dalam Alquran. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan: Pertama, Alquran lebih banyak menggunakan al-a‘mā bukan secara fisik, tetapi tertutupnya hati. Kedua, Alquran memberikan penghargaan lebih kepada difabel netra dan pada saat yang sama Alquran melakukan kritik sosial terhadap orang-orang tidak beriman pada masa Nabi.]

Abstract

Understanding the hadith is the most important step after examing its authenticity. The aim of this paper is to explain the development history of ma’ani> al-h}adi>s\ and to analyze the comtemporary methods from five thinkers namely: Fazlur Rahman, Yusuf Qardhawi, Muhammad al-Ghazali, Syuhudi Ismail and Khaled M. Abou El Fadl. This concludes that the prosess of understanding hadis (ma’ani> al-h}adi>s\) has been developed by many Islamic scholars from classical era to contemporary era. Analyzing the ways of ma’a>ni al-h}adi>s\of five thinkers above, are able to be classified into three steps; analyzing the text, historical context (micro and macro-asba>b al-wuru>d), and applying in reader’s context.

Abstract

Al-Quran at the first time was sent down to transform the bias gender relation. In relation to this, it is necessary to let the Quranic verses to talk about gender itself by using the variant readings (Qira’at) of the Al-Quran. This paper aims to built the argument how important the qira’at is to understand the verses talking about gender. For example, this will analyze the Q.S. Al-Nisa’ (4): 19. This concludes that variant readings (qira’at) contributes to understand the Quran thematically and contextually. Second, using the qira’at in Q.S. Al-Nisa’ (4): 19, we understand how to position the women more respectfullyAl-Quran pada saat pertama diturunkan untuk mengubah hubungan bias gender. Sehubungan dengan ini, perlu untuk membiarkan ayat-ayat Al-Quran berbicara tentang gender itu sendiri dengan menggunakan bacaan varian (Qira'at) dari Al-Quran. Paper ini bertujuan untuk membangun argumen tentang pentingnya Qira'at untuk memahami ayat-ayat Al-Quran berbicara tentang gender. Misalnya, analisis Q.S. Al-Nisa '(4): 19, dengan kesimpulan bahwa varian bacaan (Qira'at) memberikan kontribusi untuk memahami Quran tematis dan kontekstual dan menggunakan Qira'at dalam Q.S. Al-Nisa '(4): 19, bisa memahami posisi kaum perempuan dengan lebih terhormat.

Abstract

The film,“Kehormatan di Balik Kerudung” (read: KdBK) is a religious Indonesian film containing gender issues.In relation to this, it is necessary to view this movie as livingAlQuranphenomenon. By using femenism approach, this paper concludes that first, the“KdBK” movie contains gender issue as reception from Q.S. Ali ‘Imran (3): 132. Second, many gender imbalance issues are showed from this movienamely, discrimination, stereotype, subordination, marginal issue and double burden.Film, "Kehormatan di Balik Kerudung" (baca: KdBK) adalah sebuah film religiusIndonesia yang mengandung isu-isu gender. Terkait dengan hal tersebut, maka penting untuk melihat film ini sebagai phenomena livingAl-Quran. Pendekatan femenism, digunakan dalam kajian ini, sehingga kesimpulannya adalah, pertama, film "KdBK" berisi isu gender sebagai penerimaan dari Q.S. Ali Imran (3): 132 dan; kedua, isu-isu ketimpangan gender yang ditunjukan dalam film ini, antara lain: diskriminasi, stereotip, subordinasi, marginalisasi dan beban ganda.

Abstract

This article aims to explore ”scientific exegesis” of ministry of religious affairs of Indonesia. As we know the scientific exegesis is one of the approaches in interpreting the Qur’an which appeared since the middle century. This will try to explore the epistemology of that exegesis and the interest of government in process of writing the exegesis. It will focus in three themes namely ocean, food and a drink, and time. This concludes that first this exegesis is a part of the thematic method. Second, according to validity aspect, this exegesis agrees with the correspondence and pragmatism aspect, but not in coherence aspect. Third, this exegesis is an effort to help the policy of government.

Abstract

This article examines the paradigm shift in the interpretation of the Qur'an. The main thesis in writing is that there is a paradigm shift in the approach to interpretation of contextualist figures and the need for a new paradigm to actualize interpretations. Therefore, this paper presents an explanation of how the construction and paradigm shift in the interpretation of contextualist figures; why the paradigm shift of contextual interpretation occurs, and what are the implications of this shift in the principles of the new paradigm of interpretation. This study is a literature review. As a sample of the data, there are five contextualist thinkers studied, namely Fazlur Rahman (Pakistan-America), Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd (Egypt-Netherlands), Farid Esack (South Africa), Abdullah Saeed (Maldives-Australia), and Sahiron Syamsuddin (Indonesia). Data were analyzed using comparative-relational analysis. This study concludes that the paradigm shift in interpretation cannot be separated from the influence of the sociopolitical and cultural context of each country. The paradigm of interpretation has shifted from a contextual approach to an actual-context approach. The latter approach emphasizes more on actual issues and solutions to national and state issues. This study also proposes a thesis that, different from the contextual paradigm that emphasizes the context of the Qur'an as a medium for understanding the text of the Qur'an, the actual-context approach emphasizes the text of the Qur'an as a medium for understanding the context of the Qur'an. It is because the text is actually a cultural representation of the reality of the time of revelation.   Artikel ini mengkaji pergeseran paradigma (paradigm shift) dalam penafsiran al-Qur’an. Tesis utamanya adalah ada pergeseran paradigma dalam pendekatan penafsiran tokoh kontekstualis dan perlunya paradigma baru untuk mengaktualkan panafsiran. Untuk itu, tulisan ini menghadirkan penjelasan bagaimana konstruksi dan pergeseran paradigma penafsiran tokoh kontekstualis; mengapa pergeseran paradigma penafsiran kontekstual terjadi, serta apa implikasi pergeseran tersebut dalam prinsip paradigma penafsiran yang baru. Studi ini merupakan kajian kepustakaan. Sebagai sampel data, ada lima pemikir kontekstualis yang dikaji, yaitu Fazlur Rahman (Pakistan-Amerika), Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd (Mesir-Belanda), Farid Esack (Afrika Selatan), Abdullah Saeed (Maladewa-Australia), dan Sahiron Syamsuddin (Indonesia). Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis komparatif-relasional. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pergeseran paradigma penafsiran tidak terlepas dari pengaruh konteks sosiopolitik dan kultural negara masing-masing. Paradigma penafsiran mengalami pergeseran dari pendekatan kontekstual ke pendekatan aktual. Pendekatan yang terakhir lebih menekankan pada isu aktual dan solusi atas persoalan kebangsaan dan kenegaraan. Penelitian ini juga mengajukan tesis bahwa jika dalam paradigma kontekstual lebih menekankan konteks al-Qur’an sebagai media untuk memahami teks al-Qur’an, pendekatan aktual lebih menekankan teks al-Qur’an sebagai media untuk memahami konteks al-Qur’an, karena teks sejatinya merupakan representasi kultural atas realitas masa pewahyuan.
