Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of using an android application compared to conventional teaching materials on Trigonometry courses on the mathematical communication skills of student candidates regarding personality type. The research method was used quasi-experiment with the population of first grade at Department of Mathematics Education of STKIP Santu Paulus Ruteng and the sample was taken from 2 classes. Data were through by questionnaires and mathematical communication test which were then analyzed by two-way ANOVA test. Data analysis and interpretation showed that: (1) students who were taught using the help of Android-based teaching materials had better mathematical communication skills than students taught conventionally; (2) there was an interaction between learning media and personality type on mathematical communication skills. The findings point to recommendations that the use of appropriate instructional media could be used to improve students' mathematical communication skills and would facilitate the learning process of mathematics.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine: (1) the relationship between mathematics anxiety and students' mathematics learning achievement; (2) the relationship between learning motivation and students' mathematics achievement; (3) the relationship between mathematics anxiety and learning motivation simultaneously with students' mathematics learning achievement. The population is all students of class VIII SMPN 7 Cibal, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara totaling 108 students. Sampling was done by using a simple random sampling technique which was followed by a proportional random sampling technique. Data were obtained using questionnaires and tests. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple correlations. The results showed: (1) there is a negative relationship between mathematics anxiety and mathematics learning achievement; (2) there is a significant relationship between learning motivation and mathematics learning achievement; (3) there is a significant relationship between mathematics anxiety and learning motivation simultaneously with students' mathematics learning achievement.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variabel sosial demografi, yaitu gender dan latar belakang jurusan sewaktu di sekolah menengah terhadap kecemasan matematis. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika Unika Santu Paulus Ruteng. Sampel penelitian dipilih secara acak dari tingkat I sampai III berjumlah 62 orang. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah angket kecemasan matematis yang valid dan reliabel. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan statistik deskriptif, uji-t sampel bebas, dan regresi ganda untuk mengidentifikasi seberapa besar gender dan latar belakang jurusan mempengaruhi kecemasan mahasiswa terhadap kecemasan matematis. Analisis regresi dengan metode kuadrat terkecil digunakan dengan variabel terikat kecemasan matematis mahasiswa. Hasil uji asumsi klasik menunjukkan bahwa data penelitian berdistribusi normal dan tidak ada multikolinearitas antara variabel bebas gender dan jurusan. Koefisien regresi menunjukkan bahwa nilai koefisien variabel gender 1,447 dan variabel jurusan -0,191. Hasil uji statistik t dengan tingkat kepercayaan 95% menunjukkan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000. Hal ini berarti terima H0 atau tidak ada pengaruh yang signifikan antara gender dan jurusan terhadap kecemasan matematis mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika Unika Santu Paulus Ruteng. Mahasiswa laki-laki tidak lebih baik dari perempuan dalam hal menggelolah kecemasan matematisnya, begitu pula sebaliknya. Perbedaan jurusan, baik itu jurusan IPA, IPS, maupun BAHASA tidak secara signifikan menyebabkan kecemasan matematis mahasiswa.Kata kunci: Gender; kecemasan matematis; latar belakang jurusan Abstract This study aims to determine the effect of socio-demographic variables, namely gender and department background while in high school, on mathematical anxiety. The population in this study were students of the Mathematics Education Study Program of Unika Santu Paulus Ruteng. The research sample was randomly selected from level I to III, totaling 62 people. The instrument in this study is a mathematical anxiety questionnaire that has proven its validity and reliability. The method used is quantitative with descriptive statistics, free sample t-test, and multiple regression to identify how much gender and major background in high school affect student anxiety about mathematics learning. Regression analysis with the least-squares method was used with the dependent variable student mathematical anxiety. The classical assumption test results show that the research data is normally distributed, and there is no multicollinearity between gender independent variables and majors. The regression coefficient shows that the coefficient value of the gender variable is 1.447 and the major variable is -0.191. The result of the t-test with a confidence level of 95% shows a significance value of 0.000. This means that accept H0 or, in other words, there is no significant influence between gender and department on students' mathematical anxiety of the Mathematics Education Study Program of Unika Santu Paulus Ruteng. Male students are no better than girls in terms of cultivating their mathematical anxiety and vice versa. The difference in majors, both science, social studies, and language majors, did not significantly cause students' mathematical anxiety.Keywords: Department background; Gender; mathematical anxiety

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the spatial abilities of deaf students in KM Extraordinary School in Ruteng. The population in this study were all deaf students in high school The subjects in this study were all students of class X with hearing impairment, amounting to five people. The instrument used in this study was a test item with indicators of spatial ability. To support the test results obtained, interviews were conducted directly with the students about the reasons for giving answers to each question they worked on. In addition, interviews were conducted with teachers to find out their mathematical abilities. The results showed that the spatial ability of deaf students of class X at school extraordinary KM varies according to the cognitive abilities possessed by each child. Indicators identify, classify the elements, shape, or position of a geometry object from a certain point of view are the indicators most mastered by students. As for the indicators stating the position between the elements of a building, constructing and representing geometry models still cannot be mastered by most students.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) hubungan parsial antara kemampuan numerik dan kemampuan spasial dengan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa; (2) hubungan kemampuan numerik dan kemampuan spasial secara simultan terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian korelasional dengan populasi adalah siswa kelas VII SMPK Santu Fransiskus Xaverius Ruteng yang terletak di Kecamatan Langke Rembong Kabupaten Manggarai, Propinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur. Sampel sebanyak 66 siswa dipilih menggunakan teknik random sampling. Data diperoleh dari tes kemampuan numerik, tes kemampuan spasial, dan tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Analisis uji prasyarat menggunakan uji normalitas, uji linearitas, dan uji multikolinearitas. Analisis data menggunakan analisis korelasi sederhana dan korelasi ganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) terdapat hubungan signifikan antara kemampuan numerik dengan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dengan koefisien korelasi 0,457 dan besar sumbangan kemampuan numerik terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis sebesar 20,9%; (2) terdapat hubungan signifikan antara kemampuan spasial dengan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dengan koefisien korelasi 0,426 dan besar sumbangan kemampuan spasial terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis sebesar 18,1%; (3) terdapat hubungan signifikan kemampuan numerik dan kemampuan spasial secara simultan terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dengan koefisien korelasi 0,555 dengan kontribusi kedua variable secara simultan terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa sebesar 30,8%. The relationship between numerical and spatial ability to students' mathematical communication ability AbstractThis study aimed to describe (1) a partial relationship between students’ numerical abilities and spatial abilities with mathematical communication abilities; (2) simultaneous relationship between students’ numerical and spatial abilities to mathematical communication abilities. This study used correlational research. The population of this research was seventh-grade students of SMPK St. Fransiskus Xaverius Ruteng, located in Langke Rembong Subdistrict, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. A sample of 66 students was selected using the random sampling technique. Data were obtained by using numerical ability tests, spatial ability tests, and mathematical communication ability test. Before analyzing the data, a normality test, linearity test, and multicollinearity test were carried out. The data were analyzed by using a simple correlation and multiple correlations. Data analysis showed that (1) there was a significant relationship between students’ numerical abilities and mathematical communication abilities with correlation coefficient 0,457 and the contribution of numerical ability to mathematical communication ability was 20.9%; (2) there was a significant relationship between students’ spatial abilities and mathematical communication abilities with correlation coefficient 0,426 and the contribution of spatial ability to mathematical communication ability is 18.1%; (3) there was a simultaneous relationship between students’ numerical and spatial abilities to students mathematical communication abilities with correlation coefficient  0,555 with the contribution of both variables to students' mathematical communication ability was 30.8%.

Abstract

This research begins with the formation of preparatory classes towards OSN Mathematics at Manggarai-NTT Regency level. This is based on the evaluation of the implementation of the Math Olympiad at the elementary level held by the Mathematics Education Department STKIP Santu Paulus. This study aims to improve students’ higher order thinking skills by using Think, Talk, and Write (TTW) strategy in introductory olympiad class. It was action research conducted at Manggarai District with six students taken from different schools selected based on their mathematics achievement. Data were obtained through observation and test. The data analysis and interpretation show that the implementation of Think, Talk, and Write (TTW) strategy can improve students' higher order thinking skills.  This can be seen from the increase in the average value of test results in each cycle that is Pre cycle 51.3; cycle I 62.2; and cycle II 71 followed by improvement of learning mastery with presentation of value of each cycle that is pre-cycle 0%; cycle I 50%; and cycle II 83,3%.  In particular, one of the students became the first winner in OSK Matematika at Manggarai District level.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: 1) efektifitas model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika siswa, 2) efektifitas model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Numbered Heads Together (NHT) terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika siswa, 3) membandingkan efektifitas penggunaan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) dengan Numbered Heads Together (NHT) terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika siswa. Penelitian ini melibatkan siswa kelas VIII SMP Swasta Widya Bhakti Ruteng yang berjumlah 116 orang.  Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik random sampling, dengan terlebih dahulu dilakukan uji kesetaraan kelas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan, 1) model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) efektif terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika siswa; 2)  model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Numbered Heads Together (NHT) efektif terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika siswa; 3) model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan Numbered Heads Together (NHT)  terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis matematika siswa.

Abstract

Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya pengembangan soal HOTS dalam seiap proses evaluasi pembelajaran. Pengembangan tentang HOTS saat ini menjadi pusat perhatian pendidikan dan pada bagian tertentu, kurikulum untuk matematika sekolah menengah telah bergeser pada pengembangan berpikir HOTS. Kegiatan ini dilakukan kepada guru-guru matematika SMP di kabupaten Manggarai Timur. Tujuannya adalah agar mereka dapat memahami apa itu HOTS serta bagaimana menyusun soal HOTS. Metode pelaksanaan program adalah melakukan pelatihan berupa pengenalan HOTS, cara menyusun soal HOTS, dan menelaah soal-soal yang dihasilkan oleh para guru. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan melibatkan lima dosen yang berasal dari program studi pendidikan matematika STKIP Santu Paulus. Hasil dari penelaan soal menunjukkan bahwa semua peserta memahami apa itu HOTS dan berhasil menyusun soal HOTS sesuai dengan prosesur penyusunan soal HOTS. Selain itu, berdasarkan hasil wawancara semua peserta menyatakan menyukai kegiatan pelatihan yang dibawakan oleh tim. Salah satu rekomendasi dan komitmen bersama dari kepala sekolah dan para guru setelah kegiatan ini adalah mewajibkan menyusun soal HOTS pada setiap proses evaluasi pembelajaran.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the mathematical connection abilities of students who take cooperative learning with the Open-Ended approach with students' mathematical connection skills who follow learning with conventional approaches. This research is a quasi-experimental study with the design of posttest only control group design. The population is all students of class X SMK Aloysius Ruteng with the number of students. Sampling is done using random sampling techniques, with the first class equivalence test. Data on students' mathematical connection abilities were collected using tests and interviews. Test in the form of a description question. Data were analyzed using t-test. The results of the analysis show that thitung = 4.645 and ttable = 1.999 at the level of significance and degrees of freedom dk = n1 + n1 - 2. Because tcount t table H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted which means that students' mathematical connection ability that follows cooperative learning with an open-ended approach is more better than students' mathematical connection skills that follow a conventional learning approach. In students who have a high initial ability to give treatment does not significantly affect the increase in the average value of students' mathematical connection abilities. In students who have the initial ability to be given treatment, it is quite significant in increasing the average value of mathematical connection abilities, while in students who have a low initial ability to give treatment does not affect the increase in the average value of mathematical connection abilities.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan  pengabdian ini merupakan tindak lanjut dari kegiatan pengabdian yang telah dilakukan pada tahun 2019 di Kelompok Basis Gereja Santu Fransiskus Kegiatan ini dikemas dalam bentuk permainan konservasi matematika yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan konservasi bilangan bagi anak usia dini yang berusia 4-5 tahun. Kemampuan konservasi adalah salah satu tahap perkembangan anak yang menyatakan sesuatu (suatu objek) tetap konstan meskipun ditempatkan dalam berbagai posisi yang berbeda. Permainan konservasi matematika bagi anak usia 4-5 tahun di prioritaskan pada konservasi bilangan, sebagai salah satu hal  penting saat mereka mengenal bilangan. Kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan saat pandemi COVID 19 sedang melanda seluruh dunia melalui tahapan observasi, perencanaan, tindakan dan evaluasi. Sehingga pelaksanaannya dilakukan dengan kunjungan rumah dan tetap memperhatikan protokol kesehatan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan selama 3 bulan. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan, kemampuan konservasi bilangan anak usia 4-5 tahun meningkat, yang ditunjukkan oleh semakin meningkatnya jumlah konserver setelah kegiatan tersebut dilaksanakan.Abstract: This community service activity was a follow-up of the activities that had been conducted in 2019 at Kelompok Basis Gereja Santu Fransiskus. The activity was  carried out in the form of a mathematical conservation game that aimed to improve the ability to conserve numbers for young children aged 4-5 years. The ability of conservation is one of children's development stage which indicates that something (an object) remains constant even though placed in a variety of different positions. The mathematics conservation games for children aged 4-5 years were prioritised on conservation of numbers, as one of the important things when they recognise numbers. The community service activities were done during the COVID 19 pandemic through the stages of observation, planning, action and evaluation, so the activities were conducted with a home visit method and under strict health protocols. This program was conducted for 3 months. Based on the results of the activity, the conservation ability of numbers of children aged 4-5 years increased, which is indicated by the increasing number of concervers after the activity was carried out.
