Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the educational environment on students' interest in learning. The non-experimental quantitative research method with descriptive correlational research design was tested on several experimental classes using an assessment instrument in the form of giving a questionnaire of 20 questions to determine the effect of the educational environment on students' interest in learning. The population used was 412 using simple random sampling technique so that in class VII there were 24 representatives from 119 students, class VIII 24 from representatives of 122 students, and class IX consisted of 34 representatives from 171 students at Avisena Junior High School. Data analysis used correlation between variables X and Y through the SPSS 25 application, namely. Based on the results of descriptive analysis found that the educational environment was in the good category 46.9%, and the results of interest in learning were in the good category 43.3%. The educational environment is significantly and positively related, shown because the significance value is 0.02 < 0.05, then it is correlated and the Pearson correlation value is 0.319 > 0.213 r table so that based on the correlation value greater than r table, there is a relationship between the educational environment variable and students' interest in learning science

Abstract

This experimental quantitative study investigates the impact of the Project Based Learning (PBL) model on science learning outcomes among fourth-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 2 Krian. The research addresses the lack of innovation by educators in learning implementation, resulting in limited student engagement and poor learning outcomes. The study follows a Nonequivalent Control Group Design, with class 4 Al - Aziz (20 students) as the control group and class 4 Al - Jabbar (20 students) as the experimental group. Cognitive abilities and learning outcomes were measured using a test, and data analysis was conducted using the t-test. The results, obtained through the t-test Paired Sample T Test in SPSS v.24, revealed a significant effect of the Project Based Learning model on the learning outcomes of fourth-grade science students at SD Muhammadiyah 2 Krian (p < 0.05, sig. 2-Tailed = 0.000). This finding supports the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1). The implication of this research suggests that implementing the Project Based Learning model can enhance science learning outcomes for fourth-grade students, thereby addressing the issue of limited student involvement in learning activities. Highlights: Project Based Learning improves science learning outcomes: The research demonstrates that implementing the Project Based Learning model positively impacts the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in science. Addressing the lack of student engagement in learning: The study emphasizes the importance of addressing the issue of low student involvement in learning activities by introducing innovative approaches such as Project Based Learning. Experimental study design: The research follows a Nonequivalent Control Group Design, allowing for a comparison between the control group and the experimental group to evaluate the effectiveness of the Project Based Learning model. Abstract

General Background: In the era of Industry 4.0, educational assessment must align with 21st-century competencies, requiring high-quality test instruments capable of measuring students’ cognitive abilities accurately. Specific Background: The quality of multiple-choice items is determined by parameters such as validity, reliability, difficulty level, discriminating power, distractor effectiveness, and cognitive level distribution according to Bloom’s Taxonomy. Knowledge Gap: In practice, many school examinations are developed from existing question banks without systematic quantitative analysis, resulting in instruments that may not fully represent students’ competencies or higher-order thinking skills. Aims: This study aimed to analyze the quality of Grade VII science test items on Motion and Force using the Test Analysis Program (TAP) based on standard psychometric criteria and cognitive domains. Results: Analysis of 40 items from 52 students indicated that 95% of the items were valid, with very high reliability (KR-20 = 0.929; split-half = 0.925). The difficulty level was dominated by easy items (82.5%), most items showed high discriminating power (60%), and 90% of distractors functioned effectively. The cognitive distribution was concentrated at the analyzing level (C4), with very limited representation of higher levels. Novelty: The study integrates TAP-based statistical analysis with cognitive domain mapping to provide a comprehensive evaluation of science test quality. Implications: The findings suggest that while the instrument meets most quality standards, improvements are needed in difficulty balance and higher-order thinking coverage to support meaningful assessment in contemporary science education. Highlights: Most questions met statistical standards for psychometric soundness. Items were heavily concentrated in low-to-moderate challenge categories. Higher cognitive levels were minimally represented in the instrument. Keywords: Test Analysis Program; Science Assessment; Item Analysis; Motion And Force; Junior High School

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the readiness of secondary school teachers in East Java in distance learning during the covid-19 pandemic and the teachers' efforts in East Java in learning during the covid-19 pandemic. The research method was survey research with a sample of 70 secondary schools of natural science teachers in East Java. The data was collected by distributing questionnaires with a Likert scale. The collected data was then analyzed using descriptive statistics with Aydin & Tasci model. The results showed that secondary school science teachers in East Java were ready for distance learning, with a score of 3.45 and performing distance learning using the Google Classroom app with a percentage of 71.8% during the covid-19 pandemic. To face distance learning obstacles, the teachers can create modules for all topics of natural science at secondary school. The created module can be uploaded on an e-learning platform or WhatsApp Group. Besides, to minimize internet network use and the lack of communication tools, offline learning can be conducted, especially for natural science learning through a practicum. Furthermore, these results can be used as the basis for developing teacher resources through the enrichment of teaching models and strategies that can be applied under any circumstances in the event of a pandemic.

Abstract

Problems that often arise are the lack of understanding in implementing innovative learning models, which makes students quickly bored and have difficulty understanding the material. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning learning model with loose parts media in increasing students' interest and activity in science learning. The method in the study used a quantitative approach to quasi-experimental design. Data were collected through observation and documentation. The results of the study showed that the application of Discovery Learning with loose parts media significantly increased students' interest and learning activity in science learning. The use of this method is effective in creating an interesting learning environment, and is able to contribute to improving student learning outcomes. The results of the hypothesis test between the two groups prove that loose parts of the media can affect the ability to understand the Nature of Science and Scientific Methods.

Abstract

This research aims to improve students' critical thinking skills through the application of guided inquiry learning. This research is Classroom Action Research which was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research subjects were class VII ECP students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Sidoarjo for the 2024/2025 academic year, totaling 34 students and consisting of 18 men and 16 women. The data collection techniques used in this research were essays, tests, observations and interviews, with data validation using triangulation techniques. The essay test used in this research contains six aspects of critical thinking skills: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. Data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques. The spiral model is used for research procedures. The research results show that every aspect of critical thinking ability increases in two guided inquiry cycles of learning implementation. Interpretation increased 30.30%; analysis 36.36%; evaluation 41.67%; inference 31.82%; explanation 37.88%; and self-regulation 24.25%. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the implementation of guided inquiry learning is able to increase the critical thinking abilities of class VII ECP students at Muhammadiyah 1 SIdoarjo Middle School for the 2024/2025 academic year.
