Abstract

Music education, particularly the teaching of regional songs, plays an important role in fostering cultural appreciation and developing students’ musical skills. However, in practice, the learning of regional songs at SMP Negeri 3 Bone still faces various challenges, such as low student interest and learning motivation, as well as limited mastery of vocal techniques, including intonation, articulation, and breathing. This study aims to describe the learning process of the Gorontalo regional song Tidi Lo Polopalo through the implementation of an active learning strategy and to determine the effectiveness of this strategy in improving the vocal abilities of eighth-grade students (Class VIII-B) at SMP Negeri 3 Bone. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the application of the active learning strategy increases students’ participation in the learning process, creates a more interactive and enjoyable learning atmosphere, and enhances students’ vocal abilities in terms of intonation, articulation, and breathing. Furthermore, learning regional songs through this strategy fosters students’ self-confidence, cooperation, and appreciation of Gorontalo local culture. Therefore, the active learning strategy is considered effective for use in teaching the regional song Tidi Lo Polopalo in the Cultural Arts subject at SMP Negeri 3 Bone. Abstract

The low level of students' basic technical skills in playing the traditional polopalo musical instrument at SMP Negeri 1 Tilongkabila is caused by the use of the ineffective lecture method in musical arts practice. This study aims to describe the implementation of the drill method to improve students' fine motor skills through extracurricular activities. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study involved ten eighth-grade students as the main subjects. The systematic research stages included planning a practice-based teaching module, implementing intensive training for eight meetings, evaluating individual technical achievements, and conducting ongoing instructional reflection. The research findings showed a significant increase in skill mastery gradually; at the fifth meeting the success rate reached 50 percent and jumped rapidly to 70 percent at the sixth meeting. Students successfully mastered stick holding techniques, hitting accuracy, hand movement coordination, and rhythmic accuracy in a stable manner. In addition to technical aspects, the implementation of this repetitive practice significantly increased students' discipline, activeness, and self-confidence. The main conclusion confirms that the drill method is very effective in forming essential muscle memory for beginners in playing traditional instruments. This strategy not only optimizes students' musicality, but also plays a strategic role as an effort to dynamically preserve Gorontalo's local cultural heritage amidst the current modernization of arts education in order to fortify the national identity for the younger generation in schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the learning process of traditional dance movement material, particularly the Tidi Lo O’Ayabu dance, through the demonstration method among Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Kabila Bone. The background of this study is the ineffectiveness of previous dance learning processes that relied solely on audio-visual media, resulting in many students experiencing difficulties in applying practical material and failing to achieve the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through direct observation, unstructured interviews with the school principal, cultural arts teachers, and students, as well as documentation. The research subjects consisted of all Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Kabila Bone. The learning steps were organized into nine meetings, including theory delivery, visual observation, and direct practice through the demonstration method in which the teacher acted as a model. The results showed that the implementation of the demonstration method significantly improved students’ psychomotor skills, cognitive understanding, and affective attitudes. Students became more enthusiastic, were able to understand complex movement details more easily, and were capable of performing the Tidi Lo O’Ayabu dance in groups with assessment categories ranging from “Good” to “Very Good.” Through this method, students not only memorized movements but also understood their philosophical meanings and contributed to the preservation of Gorontalo’s local cultural heritage.
