Abstract

Abstract

This research examines the influence of the South China Sea (SCS) conflict on Indonesia's resilience and security. Indonesia began to be drawn into the SCS conflict in 2010, after China claimed Indonesia's EEZ in the northern region, specifically the Natuna Islands. China's unilateral claims continued and peaked in 2016 when Chinese fishing vessels carried out illegal fishing activities in Natuna waters. Until now, Chinese ships still often enter Indonesia's borders. China's assertive behavior is considered an action that violates Indonesia's national sovereignty, therefore Indonesia is trying to maintain and secure its sovereignty and national interests in the Natuna Islands even though it is not part of the countries in dispute. By using qualitative research methods that combine the strengths of primary and secondary data, the findings show that if left unchecked, SCS conflicts could threaten Indonesia's resilience, security and sovereignty. Under Joko Widodo's government, Indonesia responded to the SCS conflict through diplomatic efforts and military alertness.

Abstract

The phenomenon of political dynasty is one of important topics in political studies in Indonesia. This article examines how political elite attempt to preserve their power with a special reference to the case of Batang Hari regency in Jambi province, Indonesia. Using descriptive qualitative method, this article shows that political dynasty is made possible due to economic factors as well as traditional charteristics of voters. Accute social and economic condition facing communities such as low income and education contributed to the the rise and preservation of elite’s political dynasty. All this has resulted in the pragmatic and instant attitude within communities and the irrationality of voters’ behavior that in turn provided elite with opportunities to maintain their political dynasty.

Abstract

Educational attainment significantly influences voting behaviour in presidential elections, particularly in Jambi City. This study investigates the effect of formal education on voter behaviour during the 2024 presidential election and explores the behavioural patterns adopted by voters, including sociological, psychological, and rational approaches. It also assesses how education influences voter preferences and participation and its broader implications for local political dynamics. Employing a quantitative research design, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to voters in Jambi City. The findings reveal that higher levels of education are strongly associated with more informed and rational voting decisions. Formal and informal educational experiences enhance voters' political awareness and engagement. Moreover, voter behaviour in Jambi City reflects a combination of sociological influences, psychological dispositions, and rational considerations. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the interplay between education and electoral behaviour, offering insights into the nature of democratic participation in regional contexts. The study also provides policy-relevant recommendations to promote inclusive voter engagement across all educational backgrounds.

Abstract

This research is aimed at evaluating the policies issued by the Jambi Provincial Government in order to organize coal transportation. Since 2012, the Jambi Provincial Government has issued a series of policies aimed at regulating coal transportation so that its negative impacts, particularly related to congestion and road damage, can be overcome. Using William N. Dunn's policy evaluation concept which consists of six indicators, namely: effectiveness, efficiency, alignment, adequacy, responsiveness and accuracy. This research uses a combined qualitative and quantitative approach by interviewing the Department of Transportation and the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jambi Province, the Directorate of Traffic and Traffic of the Jambi Regional Police, the community and public policy observers as data sources. Data were analyzed using qualitative data analysis consisting of data reduction, data presentation, data analysis and conclusions. The research results reveal that there are three indicators that are of particular note to the Jambi Provincial Government regarding the handling of coal transportation in Jambi. First, the Jambi Provincial Government's policies have not been effective in overcoming the negative problem of coal transportation because long traffic jams and road damage often occur. Second, with the limited authority it has, the Jambi Provincial Government is quite efficient in overcoming coal transportation problems through a series of policies from 2012-2022. Third, the Jambi Provincial Government's policies are not appropriate to overcome the problem, because what is needed is the construction of a special coal road or using the Batanghari River.

One example is cyber bullying against the Chair of BEM SI following the student demonstration on April 11 2022. This research aims to identify the form of cyber bullying against the Chair of BEM SI, the structure of the movements, and the language used by the buzzer. The method used is digital ethnography with primary data from virtual in-depth interviews and secondary data from big data on social media, online media and institutional data. Abstract

The Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) is a subregional cooperation initiative established in 1993 by the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, aiming to accelerate economic transformation in less-developed provinces. IMT-GT meetings serve as a key building block for cooperation within ASEAN. Jambi Province, one of the 10 Indonesian provinces included in the IMT-GT program, is expected to benefit from the implementation of this initiative. The IMT-GT Blueprint for 2022-2026, which serves as the framework for subregional cooperation over the next five years, was finalized in 2022. Indonesia has outlined five main strategies for this blueprint: (1) economic corridor approach and regional integration, (2) promoting private sector participation, (3) supporting inclusive growth, (4) adopting green, blue, and circular economic  developments, and (5) institutional adjustments across sectors. Jambi Province has developed a designated area known as Sentusa (Sengeti, Tungkal, Sabak) to support the implementation of these strategies. This study focuses on the strategies employed by the provincial government of   Jambi to implement the IMT-GT framework. This research uses an exploratory descriptive method, gathering data from primary informants and secondary literature sources.
