Abstract

This study aims to find out the difficulties of students in solving PLSV problems using the demonstration method for grade VII students of SMP Negeri 5 Lamboya. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. 14 students as subjects to be researched to the extent to which the students can work on one-variable lienar equation problems. The data collection methods used are tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis is carried out qualitatively with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study showed that there was still a lack of ability of students to solve PLSV questions that answered the questions correctly and incorrectly. The results of the analysis for problems number 1, 2 and 3 were at the stage of difficulty in interpreting mathematical language (59.66%), the stage of difficulty in using data (64.33%), the stage of difficulty in mastering concepts correctly (66.66%), the stage of difficulty in using calculation operations (66.66%), and the stage of difficulty in drawing conclusions (83.33%). The cause of incompetence is that students do not read the questions carefully so that they make mistakes in writing down what is known and what is asked, so that they are less able to solve problems, in a hurry so that others are incomplete.

Abstract

This study focuses on identifying ethnomathematics in woven fabric motifs in Weelonda Village, with ethnomathematics understood as the study of the adaptation of mathematics in culture and its interactions. This type of research is qualitative research using an ethnographic approach. The subjects in this study were woven fabric weavers in Weelonda Village, Southwest Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The data analysis technique in this study was to systematically search for and compile data obtained from interviews, observations, and documentation. The results showed that several woven fabric motifs in Weelonda Village integrate mathematical concepts such as geometry (squares, rhombuses, triangles), making them relevant for contextual mathematics learning.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in schools can be conducted with a cultural approach to help students develop reasoning and problem-solving skills. This research is motivated by the low ability of students in Southwest Sumba in solving HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) questions and other mathematics problems. Therefore, there is a need to develop contextual HOTS mathematics questions that are suitable for the local culture and customs. The objective of this research is to develop HOTS mathematics questions that integrate elements of Odi and Umma Kalada culture to be used in learning. The method used is development research with the stages: analysis, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. In the analysis stage, data was obtained regarding the Odi and Umma Kalada cultures in Wanno Maredda Village, Laga Lete District, Southwest Sumba Regency. The planning stage was carried out to identify mathematical elements contained in both cultures, which were then designed into materials for HOTS questions. The development stage produced HOTS questions that are integrated with the local cultural context. Furthermore, in the implementation stage, a trial was conducted on the developed questions. The research results indicate that the culturally-based Odi and Umma Kalada mathematics HOTS questions were successfully developed and can be used as contextual and meaningful learning media for students.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the understanding of seventh-grade students at Rangga Rame Private Junior High School regarding mathematical concepts, particularly those related to algebraic expressions. Three seventh-grade students were selected for this qualitative descriptive study based on their conceptual knowledge test results. The ability levels of the three students are categorized as high, medium, and poor. Data collection techniques used structured interviews and tests. Data analysis techniques involved data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusion. The research results show that the differences in students' understanding of mathematical concepts result in grouping students into three levels. The indicators of conceptual understanding found include: the ability to explain concepts both verbally and in writing; grouping objects based on certain criteria; applying concepts procedurally; connecting concepts to solve problems; and presenting concepts in various representations, including graphs, tables, and diagrams. Eighteen students participated in the test; six of them were in the high group, four in the medium group, and the remaining six in the low group. The low level of knowledge is caused by several factors, including a lack of understanding of the questions, rushed answers, and inadequate mastery of the subject matter during the learning process.

This study uses a type of research, namely design research, researchers also use qualitative descriptive analysis to analyze students' problem-solving abilities. The subjects in this study were seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Wewewa Tengah, in the 2024/2025 academic year and the object of the study was the development of ICT learning media to improve the problem-solving abilities of seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Wewewa Tengah. The instruments used in this study were learning observations, test questions, interviews. Data collection techniques in this study were by providing test questions, learning observations, interviews, and documentation. Based on the results of the research and data analysis carried out, it can be concluded that students' problem-solving abilities based on the Polya indicators of seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Wewewa Tengah. The ability of students in the High category increased from 0% to 15%, the ability of students in the medium category also increased from only 5% to 80%, while in the low category decreased from 95% to only 5%. This means that using ICT learning media with phET as a teaching medium can help students improve their problem-solving skills in fraction operations.

Abstract

This study aiams to analyze the mathematical concept comprhension capabilities of eight grade students of Karuni Christian Junior High School on the topic of probability. Comprehenson of mathematical concept is a fundamental aspect of matheatics learning that enables students to understand mathematical ideas in depth and apply them in various situations. The topic of probability was chosen because it is considered of the difficult topic by students and requires a strong conceptual understanding. This reaseacrh uses qualitative descritive research methods with a qualitative approach. The reasearch subjects are 26 students of class VIII B of Karuni Christian Junior high school for the 2024/2025 academic year. Data colletion techniques include written tets, interviews, and documenation. The research instruments consist of test questions and interview guidelines developed based on indicators of mathematical concept understanding according to Kilpatrick, Swafford, and Findell. The research result show that students abllity to understand mathematical concepts in the material of probability is in the high category with a percentage 80%, students with a medium abillity are at 75%, and students with low abillity are at 50%. The indicator most masterred by students in the abillity to restate concepts, while the most difficult indicator is presenting concepts in the form of representations.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the extent of understanding students in the application of teaching aids to overcome mathematical misconceptions in material on the construction of grade VII students of Karuni Christian Middle School. The type of research used is classroom action research (CAR). The subjects in this research are the class VII and the object of this research is the application of teaching aids to overcome Mathematical misconceptions in the material on shapes of grade VII students of Karuni Christian Middle School. The data collection technique is using tests, in the form of (post-test and pre-test) observation sheet. Data analysis techniques are carried out at the learning completion stage individual and classical. The results of the study can be concluded from both cycles of learning outcomes in using teaching aids for each student in working on test questions have different understandings. This can be seen from the results of the first cycle test of participants students have not been able to solve the given mathematics problems and in the cycle II students can solve the problems they encounter and are able to overcome them misconception.
