Abstract

Since humor holds such an important role in our interactions, the topic related to the establishment of humor becomes important. This research was focusing on how humor was formed and why the flouting of maxim was affecting it. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this analysis. The objects of this research were the types of flouting maxim and the development of humor caused by it. The observation method was used in this analysis, combined with non-participatory technique in data collection. The data analyzed by using pragmatics identity method. The result of this research showed that all the maxims were violated throughout the episode in order to create humor. Maxim of relation and maxim of quantity became the most flouted maxim in creating humor, and the sense of hostility became the most appeared humor in Hawkeye TV Series.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out about the grammatical errors on Twitter. This research used descriptive qualitative research to aimed the types of grammatical errors by using the strategy taxonomy by Dulay, Burt, and Krashen that was realized on Twitter. The method of collecting the data in this research used the observational method. And the purpose of this research was to identify and describe the types of grammatical errors on Twitter. Thus, the researcher found 4 types of grammatical errors, those were 4 data of addition with a percentage 26.7%, then for the second type was 6 data of omission with a percentage 40%, the third type was 3 data of misformation with a percentage 20%, and for the last were 2 data of misordering with the percentage 13.3%. For the data result, it can be concluded that the most types of grammatical errors on Twitter were omission types with 6 data and a percentage 40%.

Abstract

This study aims to find the types and the roles of metaphors in War Room movie. Metaphor in the movie is one of the most important aspects to understand the plot and the message of the movie. This study applied qualitative research as the design, and the observational method and non-participatory technique by Sudaryanto (2015) were conducted to collect the data. The collected data were analyzed and classified based on the theory by Levinson (1983) for the types of metaphors and Gibbs (2008) for the roles of the metaphors in talk. As the results of this research, there were 43 total metaphors found in the War Room movie. 8 metaphors have the roles in negotiating and appropriating in talk with the type of 7 predictive and 1 sentential, 10 metaphors offering a shared discourse space with 6 predictive and 4 sentential, 5 metaphors for the management of talk with 1 nominal, 3 predictive and 1 sentential, and finally 20 metaphors which bring effective impact to the talk with 2 nominal, 16 predicatives, and 2 sentential. It was also found that the metaphors in the movie were very important for the movie's plot, scenes, and message.
