The purpose of the research was to find out the types of illocutionary act on Anger Management movie written by David Dorfmann. The data of this reserach were taken through observational method. The technic of the research used non-participatory. It was a descriptive qualitative research. The data analyzed used the theory of Searle and Austin. The result of this research there were 20 data utterances of illocutionary acts. The data was 8 showed directives, 1 showed assertives, 2showed commisive, 5showed declarative, 4and showed expressive. The data were consisted of five types: directives, assertives, commisives, declarative, and expressives. From all the data, the most used type of illocutionary acts was data for directive. The reason was because some people wanted to describe their feeling through their expression and people also liked to asked people not to do or do something by using directive illocutionary act.

The aim of the study was to identify and analyze the types of presupposition implied in the BBC news of corona virus in Indonesia. In this research, the researchers used descriptive qualitative research as the research design. The research design was conducted to design is a qualitative approach in which express the outcome in words and provide an explanation of the result. In collecting the data, the researchers used the observational method and non-participatory technique by Sudaryanto (1993). In analyzing data, the researchers applied pragmatic identity method and distributional method. As for the theory, the researchers used the presupposition theory proposed by Yule (1996). The types are existential, factive, non- factive, lexical, structural and the counter factual presupposition. The research was existing in the BBC news “Indonesia corona virus”. The research found the types of presupposition are existential, factive, non- factive, lexical, structural and the counter factual presupposition. The most type of presupposition which could be found is existential presupposition.

Indonesia is the second largest country with 652 local languages. Unfortunately, there are 11 local languages in Papua and Maluku that have become extinct based on the information of UNESCO. Thus, local language that is an identity and local wisdom must be preserved from the extinction. The locals in Pulau Galang Batam use Malay Galang as their everyday language. Having observed and conducted interviews to the elders in Kampung Melayu Tanjung Colem Pulau Galang Batam, it was identified that the speakers began to leave Malay Galang. The youngsters in Kampung Melayu Tanjung Colem Pulau Galang Batam used Indonesian with their peers and parents. Many of the local youngsters who left and returned Kampung Melayu Tanjung Colem Pulau Galang Batam did not use Malay Galang but Bahasa Indonesia. And the influence of language that appears on TV and Inter-ethnic marriages were the other factors of weak language-maintenance. Thus this activity aimed to educate the locals the importance of maintaining Malay Galang as an identity, heritage, and local wisdom and the importance of teaching Malay Galang to the youngsters so that Malay Galang does not become extinct. The method used was local community education program with the technique of lecturing and discussing. The result of this activity was the improvement of awareness and responsibility of the locals to maintain Malay Galang. Indonesia is the second largest country with 652 local languages. Batam is the third most visited city of foreign tourists due to the strategic location that closes to Singapore and Malaysia. It becomes a distinct advantage with the number of tourists visiting. In addition to marine tourism and shopping tourism, Batam has agro-tourism in the islands around Batam Island. Cafe Zore in Rempang Island's dragon fruit plantation is often visited by domestic and foreign tourists. Foreign tourists often experience difficulties in communicating with English because the employees could not speak English. It is aimed to develop employees' English skills through methods of community education and training with lecturing, discussion and demonstration techniques. The result of this training was the improvement of the English spoken ability. To sum up this PkM activity is that English communication skills are very important to welcome foreign tourists visiting and support the government to develop tourism in Batam

English is an international language which is very important for smooth bilingual interaction. Along with the times, the ability to speak English is required in all aspects of life to develop. One that is experiencing rapid development is the air transportation industry, which has a similar impact on the development of the airport aspect as a facility for providing aircraft transportation services. One of the important airports in the Riau Archipelago is Batam's Hang Nadim Airport. The airport was officially opened to the public on January 1, 1995 under the name "Hang Nadim International Airport. Since then until today, Hang Nadim airport has grown rapidly and has become one of the largest and busiest airports in Sumatra. With the rapid development of Hang Nadim Airport This, of course requires the use of an international language, namely English as the most commonly used communication medium. It has become a must for airport staff to be able to master English for the smooth operation of the technical process of aircraft and air flight systems. All airport workers are required to have good English language skills. it is appropriate to create conducive working conditions, but in reality on the ground, not all staff who work at airports have basic English skills, especially regarding the basic conversation part in English at the airport. If they are not equipped with basic English skills then they will not be able to speak English. can work optimally. Therefore, it is very important to initiate a dedication to provide a basic introduction to English for staff at Hang Nadim Airport, Batam City, Riau Islands.

Most of English foreign language learners (EFL) in the beginning level face some problems in learning English. They commited different kinds of errors and mistakes in learning English as a foreign language which were due to poor knowledge with grammar. Most of students considered that grammar was difficult, thus their motivation to learn English was also poor. Moreover, problems in foreign language learning especially in English were unavoidable. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify common error in using English tenses by EFL students in the first semester at Putera Batam University. The instrument used was a test on basic English tenses and the data consisted of 50 students. The data sources were taken from the result of students’ test itself. It showed that students’ errors were categorized into six types; (1) Subject – auxiliary agreement, (2) Pronoun mistake or subject was wrong, meanwhile auxiliary verb or verb was right, (3) Auxiliary verb was correct meanwhile verb still added –es/s, (4) Auxiliary verb was wrong in sentence, (5) Double subject in sentence, (6) The sentence did not have subject or verb. Based on the result, it can be concluded some mistakes that students made were caused of they did not really understand the pattern of English tenses. Therefore, students should be given more attention and motivation to learn kinds of tenses correctly.

This study aims to give an overview of potential online writing tools that can be used in teaching writing for EFL university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was a literature review. It explicates online writing tools and reviews previous research exploring the use of these applications for teaching writing. The data was obtained from articles in online academic journals. There were three databases and sites used in finding the articles; Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Research gate. The result shows that there are three potential online writing toolsapplicable for EFL university students in learning writing from home namely Paragraph Punch, Pro-Writing Aid, and Edmodo. Finally, some suggestions are also offered for lecturers and students regarding the use of online writing tools in teaching writing.

Mixing of the language is the insertion of a word or phrase of one language to other language where one language as a base or matrix language. A person who has mixed is if he or she uses a word or phrase from another language. Otherwise, the phenomenon of mixing occurs, if a person uses one clause which has the grammatical structure of one language and after that, it is constructed based on the grammar of another. The phenomena of code-mixing can also occur in English students‟ communication. Therefore, this research aims to find out what is content word‟s in insertional code-mixing found in the utterances of the English Department students of Putera Batam University in Batam, Riau Islands. Analysis of the data referring to the code-mixing typology of utterances that led to the insertion of the characteristics of the intervention code (insertional code-mixing) between Indonesian and English based on the code-mixing typology proposed by Pieter Muysken.

Artikel ini ditulis untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami bacaan berbentuk teks eksposisi, dan menjabarkan masalah-masalah yang dihadapi oleh para siswa dalam memahami teks exposisi berbahasa Inggris. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XII di SMA PGRI Tembilahan, tahun ajaran 2011-2012. Untuk memperoleh data, alat pengumpul data yang digunakan berupa tes memahami bacaan dan wawancara terhadap siswa beserta guru. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini memperlihatkan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam memahami bacaan atau teks eksposisi berbahasa Inggris sangat rendah. Selain itu, hasil penelitian ini juga memperlihatkan bahwa siswa masih memiliki kendala dalam memahami bacaan yang dapat dijadikan sebagai evaluasi terhadap pencapaian hasil belajar siswa dalam mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris.

Sociolinguistics is a joint scientific discipline between sociology and linguistics which means the relationship between society and language. In this case, sociolinguistics is the relationship and mutual influence between language behavior and social behavior. A language is an object of study of the social structures in society as means of communication and group identity. The ability of each human being in the language is different. Some people use two languages in their daily life which is called bilingual. most people like to switch languages with their interlocutors as needed. In sociolinguistics, there is code-switching which is related to bilingualism. Code-switching refers to a kind of code to switch between two languages of the same language at the same time. Code-switching here is a necessary ability to build in an ever-evolving multicultural environment. From social media, people can learn many languages and explore various languages used by others. Almost everyone uses social media. One famous artist who has a YouTube channel with many subscribers is Deddy Corbuzier. In Deddy Corbuzier's podcast, Deddy Corbuzier tends to switch Indonesian English with the other public figures. Therefore, this research aims to describe the types of code-switching using in Deddy Corbuzier podcast. There are three types such as tag switching, intersentential switching, and intrasentential switching. The data was analyzed by using Stockwell (2002) theory. The researchers used descriptive qualitative research methods to research by using (Sudaryanto, 2015). The results of this research, researchers found 3 data for tag switching, 1 data for intersentential switching, and 5 data for intrasentential switching.
