Abstract

The aim of this research was to gain deeper understanding concerning English teacher's difficulties in designing lesson plan based on the 2013 Curriculum. This qualitative case study employed observation, interview and document analysis. The instruments of collecting data consisted of observation checklists, an interview guide and field notes. The subject was one English teacher at SMP Negeri X Singkawang who has implemented the 2013 Curriculum. This research revealed that English teacher encountered difficulties in designing lesson plan based on  2013 curriculum on three stages. In pre design stage, the teacher found the difficulties in term of inability to formulate and design lesson plan due to limited time constraints. In whilst design stage, the English teacher experienced difficulties in assessment with many variables. In post-design stage, the English teacher coped with students’ reluctance in the teaching learning proces since the learning process was not appropriate with the lesson plan and lacked of facilities at school. It is recommended that the teacher should put more efforts to improve professional competencies by participating in activities such as training and workshop and accelerate knowledge improvement, creativity and technology to be able to apply the 2013 curriculum effectively.

Abstract

University students must be situated in a learning repertoire situation since conventional lecture is no longer used as the best way to engage students in active learning. Students of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Muhammadiyah Pontianak are required to perform business presentation simulation collectively as one of the course requirements to pass Business English subject. Therefore, this research was aimed at examining the affective factors particularly the students’ language anxiety in simulation because the success of a presentation is not only isolated in a cognitive domain but also the affective domain as well. This research employed fifty participants from second-semester students at the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Muhammadiyah Pontianak as the samples. Data from questionnaires were triangulated with direct observation and in-depth interviews. The findings indicated that students experienced High Language Anxiety (61,99), a variety of attributes of anxiety in terms of psychological state, and fears of negative evaluations from lecturer and peers. It suggests outcomes to evaluate the coursebook of Business English in the university and to have a better implementation of simulation with accommodative learning materials, instructions, and activities. The students’ language anxiety analysis in business presentation simulation is to justify the applicability of business presentation activity in the classroom for long-term use.

Abstract

Desa Muara Jekak Kecamatan Sandai Kabupaten Ketapang memiliki potensi hayati tanaman obat seperti tanaman ketepeng. Melihat potensi ini, mahasiswa dan dosen pembimbing Kuliah Kerja Usaha (KKU) “Tangguh Covid” Universitas Muhammadiyah Pontianak Tahun 2020 berinisiasi untuk membantu masyarakat sekitar dalam mengolah tanaman ini menjadi hand sanitizer yang bermanfaat bagi pencegahan virus Covid-19. Hal ini sebagai salah satu kontribusi pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang masih belum memanfaatkan potensi alam tersebut untuk dijadikan sebagai komoditas ekonomi untuk mencegah penularan Covid-19.  Metode pemanfaatan tanaman ketepeng ini dilakukan secara langsung dengan memberikan praktik/simulasi pembuatan hand sanitizer sesuai dengan standar kesehatan.  Diharapkan kegiatan ini dapat memotivasi masyarakat sekitar untuk mengolah tanaman ketepeng sebagai hand sanitizer dan menjadikan sebagai usaha rumahan yang bisa menambah tingkat pendapatan masyarakat.

Abstract

Komoditas utama di bidang perkebunan di Desa Sungai Rasau Kecamatan Sungai Pinyuh Kabupaten Mempawah yaitu kelapa.  Melihat potensi ini, Universitas Muhammadiyah Pontianak melalui Kuliah Kerja Usaha (KKU) tahun 2019 telah melaksanakan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dalam memfasilitasi pemanfaatan kelapa sebagai minyak kelapa. Minyak kelapa memiliki potensi ekonomis tinggi yang dapat meningkatkan perekonomian daerah. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat menggiatkan semangat masyarakat setempat untuk memanfaatkan hasil alam Desa Sungai Rasau yang dapat meningkatkan taraf ekonomi masyarakatnya. Pengabdian ini memberikan pendampingan secara langsung dalam bentuk praktek dalam pengolahan kelapa menjadi minyak kelapa melalui tahapan yang sistematis sehingga masyarakat dapat menambah wawasan dan keterampilan dalam mengolah minyak kelapa yang terstandar.

Abstract

Masa anak-anak merupakan momentum dalam masa pertumbuhan dan perkembangan jiwa dan otak bagi seseorang. Dewasa ini, anak-anak sebagai generasi muda harus dibekali dengan keterampilan seni dan kreativitas yang bermanfaat bagi perkembangan diri mereka. Pendidikan seni memiliki peran penting dalam perkembangan jiwa anak dimana seni memiliki fungsi artistik, fungsi pendidikan, dan fungsi hiburan. Adapun kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan adalah pelatihan pembuatan kerajinan berbahan dasar flanel dan sedotan plastik bagi anak-anak di Desa Wajok Hilir Kabupaten Mempawah. Metode yang digunakan adalah kombinasi metode ceramah, demonstrasi dan tanya jawab. Hasil dari pengabdian ini yaitu anak-anak mampu menghasilkan produk kerajinan tangan sederhana dengan bahan dasar flanel dan sedotan plastik seperti boneka hias flanel, bros flanel, dan bunga hias. Diharapkan kegiatan ini dapat diteruskan oleh anak-anak dan dapat memotivasi jiwa kreativitas dan kewirausahaan mereka sejak dini.

Abstract

The development of agricultural diversification of natural resources as product of creative economy can be the catalyst of economic development. As one of the largest commodities of Dusun Wonodadi Desa Arang Limbung Kabupaten Kubu Raya, cassava is solely sold and distributed as raw commodity. People have low awareness to improve the value of raw material due to less exposure of the creative ideas of producing creative economy product. Concerning this matter, entrepreneurship training in terms of producing creative economy product is essential in order to give added value to cassava. As a result, the society was facilitated to produce ‘kripik manggleng’ as the creative product made from cassava. It is expected that this empowering program can encourage the creative activity of the society in order to boost the spirit of entrepreneurial which can improve the level of their economy.

Abstract

Salah satu hasil potensi alam Desa Kuala Dua khususnya di daerah pesisir Sungai Adong  yaitu tanaman pisang.  Di kawasan Sungai Adong Desa Kuala Dua, tersedia bahan baku pisang yang banyak, namun selama ini hanya dijual secara mentah tanpa adanya pengolahan yang bisa menambah nilai jual  produk tersebut.  Salah satu faktor penyebabnya yaitu kuranganya pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat untuk mengolah  hasil alam menjadi produk ekonomi kreatif, mencakup pemanfaatan produk unggulan, pengemasan dan pemasaran produk. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan  untuk memberikan pelatihan  pembuatan, pengemasan, dan pemasaran  produk hasil olahan pisang ‘Banana Chips’ dengan tujuan dapat dijadikan salah satu alternatif usaha rumah tangga yang dapat meningkatkan  tingkat pendapatan masyarakat. Kegiatan ini juga bertujuan untuk menggiatkan semangat berwirausaha masyarakat setempat dengan memanfaatkan produk unggulan desa.

Abstract

Kemampuan master of ceremony merupakan salah satu functional communicative skills dalam public speaking yang harus dikembangkan oleh setiap mahasiswa. Dengan berkembangannya dunia pendidikan saat ini, peran serta mahasiswa dalam kegiatan akademik sebagai master of ceremony pun meningkat. Penggunaan Bahasa Inggris menjadi elemen penting dalam menjadi master of ceremony yang baik. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan master of ceremony dalam Bahasa Inggris bagi mahasiswa khususnya untuk acara wisuda, yudisium dan dies natalis. Pelatihan ini diadakan dalam 2 sesi yang disampaikan dengan kombinasi metode ceramah, demonstrasi, dan simulasi. Pelatihan ini diharapkan mampu membekali  ilmu dan pengalaman langsung menjadi master of ceremony dalam Bahasa Inggris dimana pengayaan materi diberikan dengan simulasi master of ceremony oleh setiap peserta.

Abstract

The proliferation of assisted technology has been widely used in language learning, but this should be able to accommodate inclusive language learning which has become an important issue in today’s English language teaching and the higher education landscape in Indonesia. This study examined the perception of EFL slow learners in terms of the integration of an inclusive technology with authentic multimedia assisted language learning (AMALL). It discovered the impact of authentic multimedia assisted language learning on their speaking performance. This study also analysed the benefits of this technology perceived by the students. A mixed-method sequential exploratory was employed to examine students’ perception of EFL slow learners in speaking performance. A sample of 30 EFL learners was selected purposively to participate in this study. The study also examined the impact of this application by comparing the results of pre-test and post-test of the students’ speaking performance based on the analytic oral language-speaking rubric namely speaking, fluency, structure, and vocabulary. The findings of the study show that students perceived authentic multimedia assisted language learning provides some advantages in terms of usefulness, easiness, and effectiveness for speaking skill. There was also an improvement in speaking performance

Abstract

This study examined the effects of the technology acceptance of augmented reality on attitude and self-efficacy in learning English and modelled the direct and indirect effects. It employed non-experimental, analytic survey research with structural equation modelling. Two hundred and fifty-seven participants completed the survey questionnaire. Data analysis used SmartPLS to examine the outer loading, validity and reliability, R square, path coefficients, specific indirect effects, total effects, and model fit. Structural equation modelling (SEM) showed that perceived usefulness has no significant effect on attitude and self-efficacy, while perceived ease of use has a significant effect on attitude but no significant effect on self-efficacy. Perceived enjoyment has a positive correlation with attitude and self-efficacy. This study provides empirical facts that support and contradict previous relevant studies on the technology acceptance on attitude and self-efficacy in using augmented reality technology for language learning. The results of the study also contribute ideas on how technology can be anchored not only from technological but also from cognitive and affective perspectives as well.
