Abstract

This study aims to explore the meaning, process, and cultural values embedded in the Langga tradition practiced during the raba-raba puru ceremony in Bendungan Village, Mananggu Sub-district, Boalemo Regency, Gorontalo Province. The tradition is performed during the seventh month of pregnancy as an expression of ancestral reverence and a prayer for maternal and fetal well-being. This research employs a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and field documentation. Findings reveal that although the philosophical meaning is not entirely understood by the community, the tradition is preserved due to its deep-rooted social and spiritual values. The ritual includes symbolic elements such as cloth, offerings, and traditional tools that represent protection and hope. Langga also strengthens community solidarity, reinforces the role of cultural leaders, and serves as a medium for intergenerational cultural education. Amid the pressures of modernization, preserving this tradition requires a community-based adaptive approach. Thus, Langga stands not only as a cultural legacy of the past but also as a source of enduring values for the future of the local society.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of visual media in enhancing students’ understanding of historical content in Social Studies among Grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 3 Duhiadaa. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach within a naturalistic framework, the research explores learning dynamics through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal a progressive transformation in students’ comprehension, marked by improved conceptual articulation, increased engagement, and more active participation during the learning process. Visual media functioned as a cognitive mediator, enabling students to reconstruct abstract historical concepts into meaningful and structured knowledge. The integration of visual elements such as infographics, videos, and digital maps facilitated dual-channel information processing, strengthening memory retention and interpretative abilities. Furthermore, the study identifies the emergence of critical thinking patterns through cognitive conflict and reflective learning experiences. The results also highlight the importance of aligning instructional design with students’ visual learning tendencies to optimize learning outcomes. Theoretically, this research contributes to the development of a conceptual model of visual-based historical learning, while practically offering pedagogical insights for designing more participatory and cognitively effective classroom environments in contemporary education.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh implementasi pembelajaran sejarah di SMA Negeri 1 Suwawa yang menuntut pembelajaran berpusat pada peserta didik, namun dalam pelaksanaannya masih ditemukan berbagai problematika yang dihadapi guru dan siswa sehingga mempengaruhi keefektifan proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi pembelajaran sejarah, mengidentifikasi problematika yang dihadapi guru dan siswa dalam pembelajaran sejarah, serta menganalisis usaha yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi problematika pembelajaran sejarah di SMA Negeri 1 Suwawa. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis studi kasus, menggunakan sumber data primer dan sekunder yang diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi pembelajaran sejarah di SMA Negeri 1 Suwawa telah berjalan dengan baik melalui penyusunan modul terbuka, penerapan pembelajaran yang berpusat pada peserta didik, serta penggunaan metode dan media pembelajaran yang bervariasi. Guru masih menghadapi berbagai permasalahan, antara lain kesulitan dalam penyusunan modul ajar, pengelolaan kelas, penerapan pembelajaran diferensiasi, pemilihan metode pembelajaran, pelaksanaan asesmen, pemanfaatan teknologi, serta keterbatasan sarana dan prasarana maupun waktu refleksi, sedangkan siswa mengalami kesulitan memahami materi, keterbatasan waktu menyelesaikan tugas, beban tugas, dan kurang konsisten dalam mengikuti pembelajaran. Berbagai permasalahan tersebut diatasi melalui pelatihan dan workshop, penyederhanaan modul terbuka, optimalisasi sarana dan prasarana, penggunaan metode dan media pembelajaran yang bervariasi, peningkatan kerja sama dan keaktifan siswa, pemanfaatan internet sebagai sumber belajar, serta pelaksanaan refleksi pembelajaran.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the understanding and awareness of students at SMP Negeri 7 Gorontalo regarding the wise use of social media by strengthening their digital literacy, communication ethics, digital security, personal data protection, and ability to verify information. The program was implemented using a participatory approach, beginning with needs assessment, the development of educational materials, interactive workshops, group discussions, case studies, Q&A sessions, and group reflection. Evaluation was conducted qualitatively through observation of student participation, documentation of activities, and feedback gathered throughout the educational process. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants’ awareness of the importance of digital communication ethics, their ability to recognize the risks of spreading unverified information, their understanding of personal data protection, and their commitment to using social media responsibly in their daily lives. Reflections on the activity also revealed that active participant engagement and school support play a crucial role in building a positive and sustainable digital culture. This program provides a participatory digital literacy education model that can be replicated in other educational institutions as a strategy for strengthening students’ digital character in the era of digital transformation.
